St. Tim's has a serious lack of funding, and it shows. This burden is transferred to parents: we're asked and expected to provide classroom essentials -- pencils, paper, markers, cleaning supplies, etc. -- through teachers' Amazon wishlists. Each week, our daughter was asked to come with money to pay for school-wide events, usually to buy Dollar Tree junk food -- a transparent effort of the school to raise much needed money. Volleyballs (the only feature of the "athletics department") are misshapen, lopsided and ripping at the seams. What's more, every water fountain is broken and students are discouraged from using the restroom In groups as a way to avoid high water and power bills. Aside from the more obvious signs, the lack of funding is even clearer behind the scenes: the school holds a "Teachers Matter" fundraiser because the school can't afford to pay its teachers what they deserve, and we parents are asked to contribute even more to teachers' paychecks. In fact, almost everything about the school is a fundraiser: Parents Night Out, pep rallies, school plays and the Cultural Heritage Festival. The only thing more lacking than funds at St. Tim's is the school's leadership. We're so happy we finally left. read more

Where do I even begin? This school has been an amazing source of education, community and encouragement our 6yo son needs to be successful in the years to come. This is our second year and I could not see our children going anywhere else. The teachers are excellent, the smaller classroom size allows for more 1 on 1 interaction. They teach concepts 1 year ahead but at a manageable pace where our son did not feel overwhelmed with work. It's great that we could have him attend a private school with affordable rates and still give him exposure to Spanish/ art/ technology/ music etc at such an early age. Our first year at St. Timothy has been great. The teachers and staff create a very nurturing and safe environment for our son to learn and develop. The school also seems diverse in various ways and all of the parents I've met so far have been down to earth, decent people. Compared to other private school kids that I've met, the students here seem a lot less entitled while still having confidence. We have not had a single negative experience at St. Timothy so far and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants their kids to receive the extra attention that a smaller private school can provide at a very reasonable price. read more

We've had a great experience with this school. Our kids enjoy going every day and we've been happy with the academics--everything seems on track and sometimes even ahead in reading, math, and writing. The teachers challenge the students in a good way, without us worrying about them falling behind. Security is solid and we've always felt our children are safe. The after care until 6pm has also been a big help for our work schedules. Overall, we feel the school provides excellent value without private school prices. read more

This school has so many wonderful qualities, but the greatest blessing by far has been the teachers. They are outstanding. They are kind, provide a loving and safe environment, and challenge our kids in the best ways possible. Because it's a smaller school, the teachers really get to know each child personally and provide individualized attention that helps them thrive both academically and socially. Our two oldest children attended from Pre-K through 8th grade and left incredibly well prepared for high school. St Timothy is a supportive environment, and the community feel of the school is something we truly treasure. We also deeply appreciate the way the school celebrates diversity with the affinity groups for parents, heritage month celebrations, and classroom activities that honor each child's background and culture. My son graduated this year, so I can write an honest opinion. This school is ok ish. Cons: emailing the principal, you never get an answer. All communication is done through the front desk. Not good because lacking privacy.The aftercare is not a program. The kids just do whatever they want. You can play volleyball, but then the other kids have no place to play. Teachers come and go quickly. Maybe payment is too low for them. Pro: The academic level is ok. read more

What's not to love about STS? We have one child here and she absolutely loves it. Our other children will be going here when they get a little older, so that's how much we appreciate what our children get (and will get) from the school. It's a small school, but that's great for feeling known. It's easy to feel like staff cares about the children. Rigorous education - there is such a good push for a solid educational foundation. We felt like the pacing was good whereby it didn't feel like too much time was ever spent on any one lesson. I found myself amazed at times with what my daughter had picked up in school. Small class size - I guess this can be a pro or a con depending on what you're looking for. I really appreciate the small class size because it felt like extra attention would be given to the students. The small size lends itself to the feeling that the teachers can really identify any areas where the students might be falling behind. In fact, our child had been needing some extra help from us in a certain area and the teacher was quick to identify it to us so that we could take action. I really liked that. After-school curriculars - it seems like a nice blend of offerings throughout the school year to accommodate a lot of interests. Drama and after-school sports class always seemed to be popular. Safety - even though the school is right off Pico, the school really feels safe and secure. They have a good system to keep track of the children and solid gates and doors. During Covid, they really kept a good system for keeping the kids safe. There was weekly testing and great response times when there were positive cases. Tuition - the cost does go up each year, but it feels manageable and in line with costs that increase in all other areas of life these days. No complaints there. There are tuition discounts when you become a member of the church. Playground - while there isn't playground, the kids seem to really enjoy the blacktop area. They can run around and play games. They can also play basketball and volleyball. In the end, we are really happy that we chose St Timothy. It's been a great experience thus far and we look forward to more years here. read more

We LOVE this school! We transferred into St. Tim's in 3rd grade. We knew we wanted a private school with diversity so we specifically looked for a Catholic school. My husband and I googled "Academic" and "Catholic" and found this gem. From our very first tour to meeting my son's first teacher we knew we made the right decision. On day one we knew we made the right choice! This school has academic excellence in a nurturing environment. St. Tim's is one year ahead in math. When the kids are applying to high schools, this especially serves them well! Our 8th graders have done very well with their acceptances, my son got into all of the schools we applied to. The Administration is first rate, with a wonderful Principal and Vice-Principal leading the helm! The teachers are excellent and truly care about the students. The curriculum is solid and stimulating. Since it's a small school, all of the teachers and administrators know every kid's name. Everyone pitches in and does everything to help out. You will see the Principal helping with car line sometimes and greeting parents. This community is filled with kindness and support at every level and the most beautiful thing is that our kids learn that. At a recent basketball game, the 8th graders kept throwing the ball to the 6th grader so he could his first basket, and our side erupted when he did. This school is about teaching values and is not overly religious. A large percentage of non-Catholics go here, a testament to its diversity. St. Tim's is a school community full of love and respect. This is what truly makes a school special. This community has given so much to our family and we are beyond grateful. We give St. Tim's the highest possible recommendation! read more

We couldn't be happier at St. Tim's. Our main concern going in was that our daughter receive individual attention and support that may be lacking at bigger schools for her food allergies. I wanted to make sure that the teachers and staff were on board, and that other students treat her with kindness and respect. Everyone at St. Tim turned out amazing. Ms. Lorraine is always on top of her medication lists, the teachers always check in to make sure the treats they distribute are safe for our daughter, and her classmates are super understanding as well. The school has this family feel that fosters compassion and kindness, and lets the kids feel free to be themselves. Our daughter is thriving there, both socially and academically. Another important thing is the energy there. Every day at drop off and pick up, I sense so much positivity from everyone there. The teachers and coaches truly care about their charges and it shows. I love all the extracurricular activities they offer. The Food Craft class by Ms. Nguyen was fantastic and Coach Rubin's camps are always a great success. The main thing is this - our daughter looks forward to every school day at St. Tim's. And in my book - this is priceless. read more

St. Timothy School may be small, but it offers excellent academics, great diversity/community, and really committed and caring teachers. We have two children who went from kindergarten (and 1st) through 8th grade, and our kids (and us parents) have had the best experiences. The middle school students compete and some students always place in the annual L.A. County Science Fair and move on to state and even national levels. The school has a very inclusive sports program, giving even lower elementary school students a chance to learn and practice on B and C teams. The librarian is a published author of many children's and YA books and who fosters a love of reading, and also leads creative writing workshops. There is a performing arts program. The Spanish curriculum is effective, and in both of our children's graduating classes, a number of non-native Spanish-speaking students were able to test into second year or honors Spanish as entering 9th graders. STS students matriculate to many of the top Catholic schools, many with hefty merit scholarships, and also to highly competitive independent schools like Brentwood School, Geffen Academy, Harvard Westlake, Campbell Hall, Wildwood, etc. We highly recommend this school! read more

After struggling with LAUSD not meeting my son's needs, I finally came upon St. Timothy's School. Wow! My family is so happy here and my son is thriving on all levels. I drive 2hrs a day (total) to get him to school and it is so worth the effort. Initially, I was met by Mary, the admissions director, who was so informative, pleasant and friendly, and has proved herself to be consistently lovely and compassionate. I felt right at home in this well-maintained intimate size school. I am an energy healer, by trade. The thing that attracted me to the school was the energy of the children both on the website and in the classrooms. When I looked into their faces I saw what I was looking for: bright eyes, trust, happiness, excitement and positive expectations for life. The rooms felt energetically clean and were decorated as expected per grade. The principal is AWESOME! Ms. Lena Randle is a charismatic leader, with a great sense of humor and a clear vision for annual goals and "make it happen" attitude that is friendly, respectful and not at all pushy. She is open to feedback, suggestions and listens very well to concerns. I have seen her as proactive and positive at all times. My son is a first grader at this writing. He entered mid-year as a kindergartener. Both his teachers and their aides were fabulous! He recently tested as a 3rd/4th grader in math and reading, and he is getting school work appropriate for his level of learning. (This was my frustration with LAUSD: they wanted to move him a grade ahead to deal with his academic ability, ignoring his emotional growth needs with his peers.) The Saxon Math Method is taught at this school (not Common Core). This method has been scientifically proven to develop the corpus callosum (hemispheric bridge of the brain) for math data retrieval. All reviews of Saxon have been shown to be a time tested, proven method for teaching math to children for building solid foundations in math ability. Another big win for us!! They teach cursive writing, which is also being proven in the scientific realms for improved brain integration in children. Bonuses include Spanish class, Fine Arts and Preforming Arts class all 1x/week. I'm super excited that my son will have 8 years of Spanish under his belt before reaching high school. It's offered 2x/wk to the upper grades and my observation of the 7th grade ability was impressive. For those wondering about the religious aspect of the school, it is what I would call "Catholic School Lite" meaning, they meet the basic requirements. There are no priests or nuns teaching religion. They use video-education in part for the religious lessons, then they have discussion. They do first Friday Mass for the entire school. Each class above 3rd grade hosts a Sunday Mass during the school year with coffee/hospitality afterwards. The school cultivates community outreach through numerous activities, collaborative work with non-profits and more. The school teaches kindness and compassion for all people. And to their credit, they have probably one of the MOST DIVERSE populations in L.A. inside their school. I don't recall exactly, but something like 17 different languages are spoken by the families of the student body and over 10 different religions are represented in the student body. Because my son is in cub scouts (Pack 5/Overland School blended with STS) we have met many of the STS parents and their children on camping trips and various outings. They have proven to be lovely, down to earth people that we look forward to seeing again. If you have high aspirations for your child to succeed in life, get into a great high school or university, this school is preparing them for the challenges ahead. From what I have heard, most 8th graders get into the high school of their choice. If you want your child to be surrounded by bright, intelligent, creative and compassionate children, rich with opportunity in all arenas set in a small intimate setting with charismatic teachers who love to teach and guide children, St. Timothy's School is going to be a good choice for you and your family. As transplants to LA, we weren't sure where to begin with the daunting elementary school search. We knew we wanted our kids to attend a small school with great teachers- and that's about it. Luckily, a friend referred us to STS and we are so grateful that they did! The culture is very warm & feels like a family. This is only our second year at the school and we know so many familiar faces- from the staff & teachers, to the parent volunteers at PTO. It's comforting to know the folks your children are interacting with on a daily basis! Teacher quality thus far has been very impressive! Not only are we continually reassured by the academic rigour- yes, for Pre-K and K- but we're also confident that these teachers walk into the classroom with ENERGY. It's intangible but critical. We know that when our daughter walks into the classroom, she is greeted by someone who is equally excited about the education process. How can you not love school when your teachers clearly love it too? It fosters a lifelong love of learning, and we are so grateful that the administration is enabling teachers to love their jobs and classroom to this extent! The last piece I will add is that STS does a really nice job of coordinating extracurricular activities. We're already able to take advantage of after-school dance, drama, engineering-style classes and more- without ever needing to leave campus. This is hugely helpful to us as working parents. Everything about this school is impressive! The teachers are all highly skilled, qualified and educated. The curriculum is academic based, which is exactly what I was looking for. My sons had no previous formal education in Math (Kinder and 1st grade) and now, in the short time we have been there, have excelled. The small class sizes are ideal. I love the feeling of community and family that this school and the parents offer. The technology aspect will ensure our children will excel in this techy world. I love that they also offer Spanish classes as part of the curriculum, where other schools you would need to pay an additional fee for. The extra curricular activities and after school care is ideal for working parents. The principal Ms. Randle, is a gem! Highly professional and caring. The entire enrollment process up to the acceptance letter and the interview went fairly quickly, thanks to Mary, an AMAZING and WONDERFUL angel! I like how the class sizes are small which allow plenty of one on one interaction between teacher and student. They offer the total package of academics, technology, and activities to help keep both students and parents engaged with the learning culture. After a terrible experience with Beverly Hills unified School District, (I'll get to them sooner than later) my family, and more important my child, were blessed with St. Tims. From the interview process to the acceptance letter, at no point did I feel like were enrolling into a school but more so being accepted into a family. My child has been supported in every way imaginable from the moment they stepped on campus. There are plenty of schools that offer challenging curriculum, great facilities, small class sizes and all the other fine qualities that we worried parents look for when choosing a school. St. Timothy is about growth, support, strength, values, and success, and it's not limited or restricted to the students. My child has been to great schools in the past but has never experience the support system that St. Timothy provides. I would recommend St. Timothy to any family looking for a strong educational foundation and family atmosphere. read more

We feel so lucky to have found St. Timothy School. The academics are strong, the staff is creative, the children are kind, and the families are welcoming. We're second year parents and are beyond thrilled and impressed with the quality of education and overall school experience at St. Tim's. Small classes, advanced curriculum, passionate teachers, music, art, PE, great after-school programs. The student body is truly diverse and more than 30% are non-Catholic. Best of all, our 8th graders move on to the best high schools in LA, including Harvard Westlake, Brentwood School, Loyola, etc. But you only pay ONE THIRD the tuition of top private K-8 schools. We enrolled our kindergartener and first grader at St. Timothy in the fall of 2014 and are very glad we made the move. We actually live in a highly rated ("10") public charter school district which our daughter attended for two years. However, we found that the public school curriculum (or teachers) lacked the flexibility to keep our daughter challenged and excited about learning. St. Timothy is academically rigorous, culturally diverse, and socially conscious. The kindergarten curriculum is noticeably more advanced at St Timothy than the public charter school . We never had the mindset to send our kids to private school, but when we decided to make that change, we found St. Timothy to be much more affordable than the other private schools in the neighborhood and offered a wonderfully enriching education. We like the small class sizes, the highly qualified faculty, the technology education, the after school programs, the Spanish language class, and the focus on community service. Our kids are thriving in this environment and we believe they will be better students and citizens for the experience. read more

Both of my children attend St. Timothy's; my daughter is in Pre-K and my son is in 2nd grade. We absolutely love everything about the school - the teachers, the accelerated academics and educational opportunities; even the other students and their parents are awesome. We feel like part of a family here. Everyone from the principal, Lena Randle, to Mr. Jose, the custodian, are kind, compassionate, down to earth and a joy to be around. I enjoy knowing that my children are receiving the best education possible taught by the best teachers. The education is far more academically advanced, and it shows when we interact with children from other schools. The children who attend St. Timothy's learn invaluable life lessons and about being a good Christian, which is the core of St. Timothy's teachings. I can't even begin yo explain the trauma we went through at this school, My child was a victim of bullying and no one believed us. My daughter was a very happy, sweet little girl, ever since attending that school I noticed a change in her behavior when asked what was wrong she replied "I don't ever want to go back to that school, my teacher, counselor and principal don't like me, because they let me get hurt, I said what do you mean they let you get hurt. Apparently there was a girl attending the school and her mom was a teacher there , she was verbally bullying my daughter isolating her from all activities that all the girls in her class were participating in , she would make remarks like "go away,nobody wants to play with you" and she did walk away and if someone else approached her that little bully would tell them not to interact with her. So because the staff was not believing us I took matters into my own hands and everyday after school I would ask her to tell me what the bully told her today, I kept a journal and a video of my child explaining in detail what was happening. When I showed the staff the video, they expelled her!!!! I bet if the mom of the bully was not teacher there they might of not expelled her but they are by far the most cruel human beings I have ever met!!!!! read more

I have two daughters, one in first and the other in third grades. I cannot say enough great things about St. Timothy School. Class sizes are small, the teachers are amazing and the kids are the most well behaved, nicest kids I've come across. There is only one class per grade, so it makes for a really tight-knit community. They teach a grade ahead, so the kids are always challenged, but the teachers make learning fun for the kids, so it never feels burdensome. The school offers everything the most expensive private schools offer for less than half the price and the most important thing of all is that my 1st grader loves going to school. St. Timothy's is a gem of a school. The biggest compliment I can give it is that our seven year old and five year old adore going there. They are sad to leave at the end of the day! The classes are small, the teachers inspirational and the curriculum is demanding (yet never too much) - the children are essentially taught a grade up. Who loves homework? MY KIDS! Who loves going to school? MY KIDS! Who feels lucky they found this hidden gem of a school ? WE DO! It's a small school and I love it. The level of communication I have with my children's teachers and the staff says a lot about the management of this school. They are all very engaged. St. Timothy's focuses on academics while at the same time is a very nurturing environment - with small classes and an accelerated learning program this school was the best choice for our family. And believe me, we looked at a bunch. There were many factors that went into our decision but when it came down to the affordability of a quality education in the middle of Los Angeles?!?
