Bar Lokaal is a bar and cafe located right across from the entrance of the Hooglandse Kerk. They're open all day (though in between meal times they have a limited menu), and many of their dishes havens internationally inspired flair.
Service is super nice and friendly - everyone I interacted with here was extremely pleasant. There's also a separate English menu in addition to the Dutch one. They accept credit cards, and they have free wifi (with a password).
Their dishes are mostly meant to be shared, but since I was traveling alone I just ordered the cauliflower (11 EUR) at my server's suggestion. The menu description said it was roasted cauliflower with tahini, Parmesan, zhug, spring onion & pine nuts and toast: mine came without the zhug for some reason. The cauliflower was blackened outside but the texture was still soft and moist rather than crispy - I didn't think it was that impressive. There was also a huge amount of tahini and Parmesan, so it was a very rich and heavy dish.
Some of the other dishes here might be better, or maybe I just came on an off night. The food seems to be unique for the area, and it's definitely a popular spot among locals. read more
