Portuguese tapas bar. The food here is simply but well cooked! A nice option if you are in the London Bridge area. Highlights: delicious croquets and very nice iberico pork with an amazing red pepper sauce. And loved their pastel de nata for dessert! Their sparkling wine is great too! I will come back!

Really lovely place with good service and great food. I had the sausage croquettes, cod hash (amazing!!) and octopus. Very nice wines and desserts too. Can't wait for I go back! It's small so reservations are a must on the weekend.

Just brilliant. London needs more like this. Take note 'Polpo' the bar has been raised! I had the octopus which was delicious.

Tasty Portuguese tapas, we had a carafe of Meio Queijo, kicking off with Pataniscas de Bacalhau, Grilled aubergine with garlic chilli dressing, lime zest and 18 month cured Serra cheese, Octopus with sweet potato, Pork 'Alentejana' with clams, finishing off with an Orange and olive oil cake with quince and 'queijo fresco'.

The grilled sardines and grilled octopus were over done and dry to the bone! Not much taste, we were told that our food was fresh not frozen, wrong! Please get a chef that is hungry for fresh food and actually knows how to season and handle fish and seafood! The cheese and smoked meats tray was average! Will you please please serve with real Portuguese bread not English biscuits and substitute the very toasted and dried thin bread that was supposed to be garlic flavored which it had none! Train the staff and serve fresh food appropriately cooked and traditional Portuguese! Jonathan was our server, excellent job

Drink this on a sunny afternoon!

Fabulous Portuguese wine selection, great tapas, stupid expensive. Drink the Quinta de Maderne. It's fabulous on a hot day. Eat the roast suckling pig, it's delicious, order the cheeseboard, it's a real treat. Nurse your wallet it will be bleeding by the time you leave here.

But our last two visits have witnessed a slow change in the way Canela does food. They have dropped the 6 or 8 large serving items in favor of having tapas-sized servings, and the number of those options has likewise decreased. The cheese board, the charcuterie are still good, as are the pastel de nata, but if you have not eaten at Canela's in a few years, you will notice the change immediately. What used to be an option (sharing food with your dinner companion) is now part of their "social dining" approach (phrase from their banner outside).

The place is tiny but has a really nice feel to it, helped by the really nice choice of tables, huge windows facing the street and a beautiful display of their sweet and salty treats. I ordered one of the most popular choices back home for an afternoon (or any time of day for that matter) snack: pão de queijo (or cheese ball) and a quindim for dessert (sorry but I can't remember its English name). Both were simply delicious and on par with some of the best I had back home! Definitely worth any £ spent on them and worth a visit if you'd like to try them. I had an opportunity to talk to Wagner, who seemed to be one of the owners, and he was very nice and attentive. Definitely recommended! Love it!

I wasn't too sure what to expect from Portuguese tapas but what we got was lots of small plates with (as Gregg Wallace from Masterchef would say) big flavours! We went for variety when ordering. Not all the dishes were five stars but there were some definite highlights - for me it was the 24-month-aged St Jorge cow's cheese which did somersaults on my tastebuds, whilst my guy really liked their beef sandwich. We found the runner bean fritter a bit of a waste but both dived for the last mussel which was served in a small tin and beautifully seasoned. The custard tart which you have to reserve a slice of early as they only make one a night, was actually a bit disappointing - I found it a little too gooey for my liking. Every dish feels very thoughtfully prepared, and it was so nice to feel that thought and care extend to the service here, with a lovely welcome from the front of house who made sure we were happy sitting in the front 'outside but inside' area. Our waiter also took very good care of us, happily advising on dishes and in my case the wines too, as I hadn't heard of many of the grape varieties. So the 5th star is for their charm. A good feed if you're in the area with a very relaxed, rustic feel, but be warned the prices stack up quickly with this type of food! I could easily be persuaded to return though, as I already know which dishes I'd ditch and which new ones I'd order next time... ;)

Clams (part of daily special) was so so good. Monkfish and scallops were marinated really well too. They had a fish collar, part of their specials, was cooked to perfection with sides of refreshing salad toppings. Also just perfect. Very good list of wine selection. Their dessert do not disappoint. Didn't try their olive cake (which everyone else got), but their fennel sweet was subtle and light and just ended the meal in the fluffiest and most satisfying way. Overall: REAL good

My husband generally doesn't care for mushrooms, but the grilled garlic mushrooms that we ordered were his favorite he's ever had, so much so that he wanted to keep eating more and more (and I can agree as a lover of mushrooms that they were some of the best prepared that I've had!). Additionally, I have never tried African rice before, but it was so flavorful and the addition of the crispy chicken skin was great. The server gave great recommendations for the Vinho Verde wine. I enjoyed both of the ones that we got and my husband, who enjoys port liked the port + tonic cocktail. It's beautiful inside and lively but not too crazy or loud. It's a lovely place to go to for an intimate date or with a group. We would definitely love to come here again with more people so that we can share more items on the menu!
