Food: 5 Value: 5 (arguably a 6/5)…read moreService: 5 Ambiance: 3.5 The single greatest Italian cuisine meal I've eaten to date. We found this restaurant through Google Reviews and generally had high hopes, but were blown away by the experience. We ordered salads to share, drinks, and pasta before a tiramisu - I went for a seafood pasta (see pictures) and negroni. We definitely could have avoided getting the two salads; portions were massive and we ended up not finishing either salad. My main course was delicious. The pasta had a zesty, fresh flavor between the lemon, olive oil, parsley and tomato, but the welcome surprise was seeing mounds of mussels, clams and shrimp inside the dish (I'm from New York and expected maybe 10 total) that took me almost 5 minutes to deshell before I went to town on it. Cocktails were excellent - hard to see from the photos but huge and delicious. Resulted in a great midday buzz. Limoncello spritz was also good but perhaps too strong for a lunchtime drink. Other courses ordered: - Lamb ravioli - Had 1-2 bites and tasted good, but probably a 3.5-4. Not really up to my palate and compared to my own entree, hard to beat :) - Carbonara - Solid. Incredibly rich and this was an entree where the large portions actually hurt more than helped - Salads - Hard to tell bc I was full of pasta Minor ding if anything is the ambiance. It's a block or so away from the crazy shore of Como but still was getting a bit loud by the time we left. Not a real complaint and didn't affect our experience, but if you're looking for a more quiet and relaxed experience you might want to go to a less touristy area. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Horrible service and food. Served us rotten food and didn't not exchange our food. Do not recommend.read more

Service is very good!…read more They do bring you bread and breadsticks. Food is wonderful, I ordered the ravioli with smoked mozzarella with pistachio it was very good! My son had the gnocchi and he said it was good as well. Husband had the pasta with all the seafood in it seafood pasta. You can tell they use quality ingredients and fresh pasta. The pasta just melts in your mouth. We just had water, so I can't comment on the drinks. We would come back if we lived in the area for sure but we live far from here. I would totally recommend the ravioli with pistachio if you come and I would make a reservation since they book up. Very friendly staff.

They were really nice, but ignored our table. Patrons that came after we ordered were served before us. I really think they forgot the rest of our order after the antipasti came out at lightning speed. I never salt my food at a restaurant. Every dish frantically needed salt and pepper. The antipasti: pulpo (octopus) was not great. They had some sauce under it that was way too much and just was not great. For our entrees we ordered under pistachio tortellini and the seafood pasta. The tortellini was great after we salted and peppered it. The seafood pasta was lacking much seafood, it was average at best. There seems to be a lot of restaurants here, recommend trying something else...

La Roccia - The trap of tourist traps: We stayed at Hotel…read moreAlveci (which actually is a really nice place), about 300m from the historic gate / draw bridge to old town Sirmione. Upon check-in we were handed a small card with a few of "their" restaurants - where we would get 10% off as guests of the property. Growing up in the Alpine region of southern Germany, and therefore having visited Lake Garda dozens of times before, we normally would have never dined at an establishment located so central in such a high tourist traffic area. But I guess we spent a bit too much time at Jamaica Beach (very northern tip of the Sirmione peninsula) and basically were just looking for a place to have a halfway decent meal on our walk  back to the hotel. So we remembered that little card issued by our hotel, checked the restaurant reviews online and decided on La Roccia as the supposedly best option. Boy, were we wrong. We ordered beef tartar to share, gnocchi with meat sauce, and pizza capricciosa. The tartar dish was the worst we have ever had. Not only totally blant, but also not diced/cubed, and the connective tissue not removed. The result was an extremely chewy dish of large chunky pieces of skirt steak (at best) covered in raw egg. Yuck. The pizza....well, any - even supermarket frozen / domino's /pizza hut - that we have ever had before, was better than this soggy, leathery piece of barely cuttable dough. A disgrace to Italy's national dish. And the gnocchi... never arrived. Despite blue tooth/.. POS devices used by the wait staff. "There was a mistake in the kitchen". Or the order was never put in. When it was time to pay we were directed to the register inside. We took out the 10%-off-card from the hotel (should have been 100% off) and presented a major credit card to pay for the disaster dinner What followed then was a classic Italian scheme from the 1990s tourist rip-off playbook: the POS wifi/blue tooth connection for payments conveniently failed at this very point in time (so the charge can not be disputed later). For some reason the connection seemed still to be working fine on the waiters' devices. Our only options were to either pay cash or wait indefinitely until the credit card payment pad may or may not come back online. The floor manager's command of English (who was able to perfectly seat and attend to guests from various contries before) all of a sudden ceased to exist and therefore was unable to understand what we tried to address. All he did was to show us a print out that the 10% off he took supposedly was the rate of state imposed taxes on food that he had to cover. Not our problem, if the incentive given by their partner hotel does not work out for your business, please don't offer it. Or make our guests feel bad about it. Especially not about a 60 Euro bill for a sub-par meal. The burden is shared, we also pay an annual fee and possibly interest rates to use credit cards. And yes, despite everything we left a 10% tip for our waiter. However, since we were really exhausted at that point late in the evening, and did not want to wait indefinitely, we ended up paying in cash: Win tourist trap. For a relaxed and tasty dinner experience just avoid this place. Yep, they did pull a fast one on us. Apparently the old rule still applies: "when in Rome - or Italy in general - do as the Romans do. Or at least research and eat where the locals eat.

It was super fresh and extremely tasty. I got some kind of almond semifreddo for dessert and it was perfect. Light, sweet, but not too sweet. So good. The second trip included pizza and salad. While on our honeymoon and staying in Vicenza, my wife and I had a hard time finding anything open…read moreon a Monday, with most stores and all big tourist sites closed. Restaurants were a bit better, and with some online research we found a couple spots that were (hopefully) open, and if not they were in an area where we'd be able to find *something* open within a short walk. Al Ritrovo was our first choice, and was very close to a stop for the #1 bus, right next to the Duomo, with a nice patio and modern looking interior (it opened in 2013), although we chose the patio on a beautiful evening. They must have been rocking 90s on 9 on Sirius, because Gangster's Paradise was playing when we arrived, followed by the Spice Girls' "Stop", and then "Da Funk" by Daft Punk, which I was very much down with. The kitchen wasn't going to be open for another 20m, so we took a look at their drink list and I picked a bottle of their valpolicella riposa. Wine came out with a glass of salted peanuts to hold us over. The valpolicella was very enjoyable, with slight tannin hit on the front, but with a smooth finish, and warm down the throat thanks to the 15.5% punch of this Venetian wine. I went with the fresh pasta and duck to start, and a signature Vicentini/Venetian dish - salted cod and polenta, or baccala. The pasta and duck were fantastic; the pasta was fresh, just slightly eggy and perfectly cooked. The duck was chopped and also cooked to just the right doneness, being moist enough to not need the sauce to save it. Speaking of which, the cream sauce was used with a light hand, with just enough to evenly coat everything but not eclipsing the pasta or duck. The cod and polenta was a bit disappointing presentation-wise, and was fine on execution, but didn't have the wow factor of the duck. The salt cod was in a creamy sauce but still maintained some of its distinct dried fish texture. The polenta had a slightly different flavour compared to most I've had, but I couldn't quite place it, and it wasn't bad. Could have just been the kind of polenta or a better quality than is available back home, and I just wasn't used to it. Service was attentive and professional. Wherever you're staying in Vicenza, you definitely want to swing by Al Ritrovo for some very well done traditional dishes at this modern restaurant.
