Trust me I intimately understand this more than many because I was a Navy Corpsman, paramedic, nurse and ER specialist, plus my wife is a medical technologist and naturopathic doctor who has over 4 decades in hospitals, and that life experience coupled with a couple of personal hospital stays and losing my brother and father to cancer, my mother and both my in-laws to heart attacks are among a plethora of other unfortunate experiences over the years. Indeed I am acutely familiar with the good, bad and ugly of hospitals, enough said. For the last 100 years, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare been serving been providing patient-centered care in our community and region.Their services include Behavioral Health, Cancer Care, Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Emergency Medicine, Employee Assistance Program, Hospice Care, Imaging & Diagnostic Services, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Primary Care, Transplant, Weight Management & Wellness, Wone's Health and they have a good Emergency Department. Having shared all that I am very happy with my last experience at Germantown Methodist. The staff in the ER were amazing. ECG, CT, MRI And blood work with a Dr exam in about an hour. Whoa! Two of my family members and I have each had to spend one or more nights as inpatients at this hospital and on each of our stays I am very satisfied with the performance of the entire staff from the highly-skilled, sometimes overworked nursing staff to the housekeeping and transport staff and I couldn't leave out the fast and furious lab folks, they have always been very fast and reliable. I actually know one of the lab techs and was able to communicate with him directly, on 2 occasions for a family member, so that was really very helpful on a personal level but I promise I never abused a personal connection for my own care nor did I ask for special treatment, really. Please note: This shining endorsement of the hospital and it's staff absolutely does NOT extend to the physicians, most of them are not hospital staff and can range from sharp to competent and from dull to incompetent and they all get there individual reviews/judgements apart from the hospital. Enough said Bottom line: I have had experiences at every local hospital and this one has the best all-around patient care.

First I went to an urgent care who advised me to go to the ER, Methodist Olive Branch since it wasn't that far and the ER wait wouldn't have me sitting there for hours. I view and hear many complaints about wait time for hospitals since I am in the healthcare field but I don't think many who leave a city and live in other states know that ER wait times in highly populated cities with a mix of insured and uninsured can take up to 9-12 hours wait JUST to have a triage nurse see you. I got to Methodist waited probably about forty minutes before a triage nurse saw me, first test ran within a hour and a half of sitting there and taken back to a room within barely two hours. Kudos Methodist! Once back the nurse was extremely nice, (thanks Cassie), made my young daughter feel comfortable while mommy felt terrible and did not treat me or my concerns as if I was just another "patient to get in and out for a bed". Grateful for Cassie! And then WHAM, I was seen by the BEST, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CARING Nurse Practitioner I have met not only in my life but in being in Healthcare. LeighAnn made sure she explained to my husband, and to myself, what the plan was, the treatment and what the results were. Go figure, most doctors and NPs just come in for the assessment and leave it up to the nurse (who usually is just moving along to get to the next patient) to tell you your diagnosis and then send you on your way with no explanation of meds or plan. My husband who is usually a reserved man, gushed over LeighAnn and her skills, her knowledge and her bed side manners. If Methodist could use her to teach a class on how to make patients feel, how to treat them and care for them, Methodist would receive five stars every review. I'm thankful for her being there and for taking care of me to allow me to worry only about feeling better!!!! I left one star off because the X-ray tech told me to take my bra off but did not give me a gown, did not offer me privacy and then snickered on the side with a student.

I informed the woman that I had a terrible rash on my eye and my forehead, and it was hurting. I explained to the young lady that I was from out of town and on vacation . She asked me if I had Insurance and I said yes, and I gave her my insurance card and my ID.. within minutes Especially the nurse asked me to step inside to get my vitals. She asked me what was going on, and I explain to her it was an irritation that had been bothering me for a few days and I feel that I need to see a doctor because it doesn't feel normal. The nurse said a doctor would be in to see me momentarily. Within five minutes. Doctor came and spoke with me. Very kindly the doctor asked me to explain to him what was going on as I pointed to my forehead. He immediately said I know your symptoms follow me. I walked to the other area with the doctor and he explained to me what my condition was. It wasn't long before the attending physician came and gave his synopsis. Very quickly and with care the two doctors explained to me what my condition was and how it worked and then explain that the medication I would receive would be for pain and infection. With all of that being said, the young doctors care and attitude and mindset was just so remarkably amazing. The staff the cleanliness I would give this hospital an A + immediately, and I would advise anyone that is visiting the Bartlett community in Memphis, Tennessee had an emergency or had to be hospitalized to visit this care center. Doctor on staff who assisted in my care name is Dr.Cardwell. An amazing physician, caring person and beautiful soul.

Tests were performed, and his wife was told that everything was fine. She was also instructed to stop one of his blood pressure medications, and he was discharged home. The ER staff had been told that he had been weak, had fallen previously, and that this time he was unable to pull himself up. Despite knowing this information, he was still discharged. After arriving home, my father fell again in the garage. EMS was called, and he was brought back to the same ER. This time, he was admitted. Unfortunately, our experience during the admission was extremely concerning. The nurse practitioner/hospitalist repeatedly reminded us that my father was "only admitted because he fell," which made our family feel unwelcome and as though our concerns were not being taken seriously. I also felt that we were treated as though we were ignorant when we tried to explain our concerns. We repeatedly expressed concerns that medication issues could be contributing to his weakness, increased confusion, and hallucinations. Instead of feeling that those concerns were thoroughly investigated, we felt dismissed. At one point, my father was given Ativan, and afterward he appeared extremely altered--almost as though he were in a state of psychosis. We were deeply concerned about his condition and the medications being administered. The hospital then attempted to discharge him home despite our concerns about whether he was safe to return home. The nurse practitioner and case manager suggested that our family find him a facility. We ultimately had to appeal the discharge. Only after that appeal did the hospital become responsible for helping arrange a rehabilitation placement. A rehabilitation facility was eventually identified, but our family was given very little information beyond the name of the facility. We were not given clear answers about how long he would be there, what services he would receive, or what the plan was for his care. The entire experience left our family feeling frustrated, dismissed, and extremely concerned about my father's safety and well-being. We still have unanswered questions about what caused his falls, his weakness, his worsening confusion, and his hallucinations. I am sharing this review because families deserve to know what our experience was like. If you have a loved one with cognitive impairment, weakness, recurrent falls, or complicated medical needs, I strongly encourage you to ask questions, advocate for your loved one, and make sure you fully understand the plan of care before accepting a discharge. Our family came to this hospital looking for help. Unfortunately, we left feeling like we had to fight to get our loved one the care and safety he needed. I want to also, put on record, if the hospital staff documented that they were in constant communication with us, is a lie and the documentation has been falsified.

Chelsey Smith and Sierra Graham came in but didn't speak. Neither did Joyce. They all work in outpatient therapy. Debra Gill is very professional. The cafeteria experience is second to none but they play games with the food. The food and drinks served are great but I do think that they should allow the staff to eat for free. Ashley and Kyle are very friendly. Donald seemed bent on proving that he had a cold. No place in Metro Memphis is a better place to go to when you are a threat to yourself or someone else. Kimberly Rickels is just plain too busy. One of her therapists spent 20 minutes of every hour using the bathroom. The same therapist lost her keys so they searched me.

I flew down to Memphis from VT because my brother was in the ICU for a month with a brain bleed. He was never the same. Went home after rehab and he could no longer walk independently, had constant head pain, and more hallucinations from the stress of trauma. Ultimately, I moved him to VT a month later. He ended up being shot and killed by police as he had a mental health crisis in his home- he was alone with no weapons. I blame this facility for contributing to his death. When I finally received the medical notes from the facility- there were three different versions of what happened at the hospital. They had no working cameras. I complained to the state and since there was no evidence (not sure why head trauma wasn't evidence) it was our word against theirs. I filed a police report. When I did, the police officer told me the facility is a dangerous place. So, no brother, no justice. I beg you to be careful where your lives one goes in Memphis- they are all terrible.

I attempted to get it corrected as I thought it was obviously a mistake and was disappointed at every level dealing with the bureaucratic system they have in place. A total waste of time given the simplistic and correct solution. To provide detail, I had a yearly checkup and even had my bloodwork done previously to my visit so I could discuss with the doctor during my check up. During my visit I discussed my health in general, I also was able to ask questions about my bloodwork since I already had the results prior to the appointment. During the visit I discussed some allergies I've been having and was referred to allergist. There were no diagnoses, testing, prescriptions provided or follow up visits scheduled, only a recommendation that I should visit an allergist. After receiving my bill, it listed that I was seen as an outpatient and when calling the billing department I was advised this is one of the more expensive ways to be seen. I explained that I went in for an annual checkup and they agreed to send back to the office for recoding. After not hearing anything back for several weeks I reached out again requesting to speak with the practice manager to ensure this would be corrected. After speaking with the practice manager she explained that although it was coded incorrectly, that since I spoke about an allergy I will be charged for the annual check up and an allergy visit as well. She further explains the policy is posted in the room about how yearly checkups don't cover health issues you may have and made it sound like she's helping me out by just charging the additional allergy visit along with my checkup. She also said that I spent 50 minutes with the doctor, it was under 25 minutes. This is such a red flag in itself that the amount of time was extremely exaggerated in an attempt to make me feel I spent too much time with the doctor. I think I understand what's going on, it was not a typical 10 minute visit since I already had my bloodwork and was able to inquire about the results. Very deceptive and unfair not to advise a patient about this policy when the patient expects to speak about current health issues with the doctor during an annual checkup. At the very least, clinics should be required to be explain during checkin if you have an annual checkup that you're not allowed to discuss health related issues without incurring additional charges especially if there is not testing or additional appointments needed. At any rate, a company that charges services that are not transparent should not be trusted with your health. Even with the current state of our healthcare this is a surprise that any company would risk alienating their customers over what would appear to be a straightforward ethical practice. Additionally today I received a voice mail from the billing department that they are leaving the coding as it was originally charged as an outpatient?? $400+ dollars for an outpatient charge for what was an annual checkup. So unethical.

TAKE PICTURES OF ANY HANDWRITTEN INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO YOUR DOCTOR. I did provide handwritten information on a single notecard for each visit. These notecards were also not included in my medical record in any form from 2014 to 2017. Why not give these notecards back to me? 4. If you are unable to write or have memory issues, RECORD YOUR VISITS for your own recollection of what was discussed and what you need to do. 5. REQUEST a copy of your MEDICAL RECORDS. 6. Request a Complete Thyroid Panel. Request your lab results. Do your own research. Thyroid disease affects 1 in 8 women.
