I had to truly find some time to write this review because i def have a lot to say about it. Before i get into detail, I must announce that SAINT FRANCIS - BARTLETT ER DOES NOT FOLLOW COVID-19 PROTOCOLS!!!!!!! I arrived at the ER on 1/4/21 at 345 PM due to having severe stomach pains. The ER was pretty packed (which was expected). One thing i always notice about establishments are pens that they leave out for you to sign in-they are not being wiped down in between patients. So i used my own pen to sign in. In the waiting room, there were no wipes out to wipe down the seats! When i was asked to take a seat to wait for my name to be called, i asked if there were any wipes and the receptionist went to the back to grab some, allowed me to get 1-2 and then placed them back behind the desk! So i thought, well maybe the custodians are wiping down periodically..i waited for about 45 mins and was asked to come to the back to get my vitals taken. The nurse who took my blood, blood pressure and temperature constantly grabbed on her mask. It really grossed me out. After getting my vitals taken, i was sent back into the waiting room. I asked for another wipe as I waited for another hour. While sitting there, no custodian had come to wipe down the seats as people were coming in and out of the ER! Everyone was looking at me wiping down my seat in AW! I was finally called to the back after about 2hrs of being in the waiting room. I was put in a wheel chair, though i was perfectly fine to walk and taken to the back to get a CT. After my CT, i was sat up against a wall until a room became available. Mind you, the wall i was sat up against was right in front of the door that the patients from the waiting room was coming from. I waited and waited and waited. After waiting 2.5 hours after my CT, i stopped the doctor walking around and asked if he could give me an update. Not getting my name, he said let me see who you are assigned to. He never came back but awkwardly walked past me multiple times trying not to make eye contact. A nurse was passing by, i want to say her name was Lanesha and said to her "excuse me, could you give me an update? I've been sitting here for almost 3 hours since my CT." She looked at me and said "i don't know your name." Which i thought was rude to say. Why not just ask. I told her my name And she came back maybe 20 minutes later and said that my blood work and sample had sat out too long and could not be tested in the lab! Now had i not stopped her, i would've been provided inaccurate services!!! Lanesha took more blood & when i asked if another urine sample was needed, she said probably not. She took my blood pressure on a meter whose battery was running low. She kept mumbling how it wouldn't take and upset that there wasn't a plug near to charge it. Lanesha did apologize about the lab work sitting out and assured me i would be seen soon. I continued to wait and watch the staff use and reuse wheel chairs in between patients and NOT wiping them down! My pictures show the paramedics coming in and placing their mask ontop of their heads and not wearing them properly at all. I sat beside the IWR room for 6 hours in the hall and not ONCE did someone come to sanitize that room and i know at least 4 different patients were in there. At about 9PM, a nurse came up and let me know the results of my CT all while still sitting in the hall and sent me home with an over the counter Rx. I was never put in a room, never moved anywhere from the wall for nearly 5hrs!! When being discharged, i realized that no one had asked for my insurance card. I went back to the front desk and let them know that When i arrived, they only ask for your drivers license. So in my case, mine had my parents address so if they billed me, i probably would've never got it and sent to collections. The receptionist just asked for my license and scanned it. She never said what she needed it for? Never asked if the address on my license could receive mail. Never asked for insurance. None of that!!! Look, i know what to expect from an ER but i felt that this was the most horrible service I'd ever received from a group! To see the paramedics, nurses, doctors and staff act so carelessly during the pandemic! It was mind blowing! To have been at the ER for 6 hours sitting in a wheelchair outside in a hall-just baffles me! I would not recommend going here for anything!!!! I do plan on reaching out to Angela Jordan, the patient access director, to report this as well! I know nothing will ever be rectified and that's a shame! Smh

However, I decided I wanted to be surrounded by professionals with expertise in both baby and mom care, and I'm so glad I chose Baptist. Arrival & First Impressions: When I arrived, I wasn't sure if I was in active labor or not, but I quickly learned I was. After being checked, I was immediately moved into a labor and delivery room. My first nurse, Paige, was incredibly encouraging. She reassured me that I could deliver without an epidural, especially since I was already 5cm dilated and not in much pain. Nurse Transition: Paige let me know her shift was ending and introduced me to the nurses who would take over. By this point, I was 8cm dilated, and the new team--Lisa (Charge Nurse), Sierra (RN), Lindsey (Unit Manager), and Dr. Owens--made me feel confident and supported. I didn't experience pain until they had to break my water at 9cm. Delivery: Dr. Owens and her team delivered my baby. I labored for 6 hours, and after 3 pushes, my baby was born. They were very clear with instructions, guiding me through the process by counting and telling me when to push. My husband was able to cut the umbilical cord, and they immediately placed my baby on me for skin-to-skin. I was also able to opt out of having my baby bathed right away, which meant a lot to me. Post-Delivery Care: After birth, I was transferred to a new room and introduced to my new nurses and lactation specialist. Kacee, the lactation consultant, was fantastic in helping me get the baby to latch, and Amy, the nurse, assisted me when Kacee wasn't available. I also want to give a shoutout to the other nurses during shift changes--Dakeila, Lanitra (who provided amazing resources and support, especially after my baby had to go to the NICU), and Patient Care Assistants Denita and Hieu. NICU Care: My baby had some low oxygen levels after feeding, so the nurses transferred her to the NICU. Heidi, the nurse, was wonderful and made my husband and I feel at ease during a stressful time. Her empathy and positive energy helped us through a scary situation. Follow-up: We were discharged after three days, and the doctors called us after two days at home to check in and make sure we had everything we needed for our baby, while also ensuring I was recovering well. Overall, my experience at Baptist was incredibly positive. While I know every nurse and situation is different, each of the nurses I interacted with made me feel comfortable and never like a burden, even when I had many questions. I am truly grateful for the care we received, and I hope that all families receive the same level of care that I did. It took away all of my fears and anxieties about delivering in a hospital. Thank you, Baptist!

They were good, too, and the wonderful ambulance people took me straight to my room. My experience at big Baptist was amazing apart from the fact that I felt like crap. My nurse, Pri, and her student nurse, Taylor, went above and beyond what they were required to do. Dr. Kuperman was the best doctor I think I have ever seen in the hospital. Jeremiah and Denic were good nurses, too. The food was good. The service in all areas was good. I truly believe some major changes have been made at Baptist. I was impressed, and I really wanted other folks to know also.

It seemed like they didn't communicate well with each other, leading to rounds at all hours without much consideration for patient comfort. This inconsistency was frustrating and affected the overall experience. **Nursing Staff:** On a brighter note, the nursing staff was outstanding. I had several nurses who truly stood out, including Pam, Monica, Sam, Jada, and Michelle. Their dedication was evident, and they made a significant difference in my care. Even the trainee, Autumn, impressed me with her professionalism and attentiveness. While there were a couple of nurses who didn't meet my expectations, the majority were exceptional and really made my stay more bearable. **Housekeeping:** Housekeeping services were also commendable, particularly when Michelle was on duty. Her work ethic and attention to detail were evident, and I believe she deserves recognition, possibly even a promotion, to help train others in the department. **Dining Services:** Dining services, however, left much to be desired. Although the manager, Camille, made efforts to address issues, it felt like some staff viewed their roles merely as jobs rather than a calling. That said, one staff member, Nisha, stood out for her commitment to customer service. She went above and beyond to meet my requests with a genuine smile. **Patient Care Assistants:** I must also highlight the amazing PCAs, Kierra and Jasmine. Their passion for their work was palpable, and their interactions with patients were warm and caring. In summary, Baptist Hospital Memphis has a lot of potential, especially with its dedicated nursing and housekeeping staff. However, improvements in doctor collaboration and dining services could enhance the overall patient experience. If the hospital focuses on these areas, it could significantly elevate the quality of care provided.

When I arrived, I asked the front desk clerk (a younger brown-skinned woman) if I needed to complete paperwork. She told me no, that I only needed to show my ID. I thought that was strange since I had never been there before, but I went along with it. I was soon called back by a petite white woman with short, black, neck-length hair, who started taking my information and said I would need blood work. Another white woman, older with short hair, came to draw it. She said she couldn't see my vein and began pressing around with her thumb to find one. Having drawn blood for years, even before my military days, I knew immediately she wasn't doing it correctly. I explained that you can't find a vein that way and even pointed one out to her. She insisted she couldn't see it. After both of them stuck me, one dug into the bend of my arm and claimed to have found blood, but it clotted shortly after. They bandaged my arm poorly, leaving it messy and leaking blood. I was then taken to a bed in the hallway, where I stayed for the entire visit. There was no privacy, and at one point someone asked if I needed a blanket. The ER was supposedly full, but as rooms opened up and new patients were assigned to them, I was still left in the hall. I documented the situation with photos and shared them with family and work. I also provided a urine sample for testing, but it was never processed. The sample sat on the back of my bed for the remainder of my visit. Later, a taller light-skinned nurse came over and realized I didn't even have an IV started. She successfully placed one--using the same vein I had originally pointed out to the first two nurses. She was able to draw blood and get fluids going without any problem. Meanwhile, my other arm was extremely sore from the earlier failed attempts, which showed a lack of skill and care. Not long after, the same front desk clerk who told me I didn't need paperwork now said I did, because she didn't have anything in her system. I reminded her that I had asked about paperwork when I first arrived, but she had insisted all I needed was my ID. To me, it seemed like basic common sense that paperwork should have been done upfront. I eventually spoke with the NP and specifically asked her to check my abdomen as well, since it didn't seem like that concern was being addressed, even though it was part of the reason I came in. The whole experience felt disorganized and careless, though I will say two of the nurses (the NP and the nurse that started my IV) did show good bedside manner. When I was finally discharged, communication was again poor. One person started removing my IV, while the original nurse with short black hair returned to take it out--only to find it had already been removed. My EKG patches were still stuck to me as well; since no one removed them, I just took them off myself, buttoned up my dress, and walked out after lying in a hallway bed for hours. Looking back, I should have noticed the red flags at registration and left. I will never go back to that ER again, but I'm sharing this because others may have had similar experiences and chosen not to speak up. I share everything I encounter, and this was by far one of the worst medical experiences I've had. After now seeing my own medical provider, I am now getting another opinion as the information that was given back to me and my provider lacked a lot of unanswered questions/information, and on top of that my chest still bothers me. I will not respond to those generic message replies. If the hospital is that concerned with ratings, reach out to your patients instead of your patients having reaching out to you.
