This is a late review! I saw this doctor in 2024 while I was in Berkeley for a variety of conditions. She really cares about her patients from the day she meets you. She followed up several times to give additional information about supplements, diet and other suggestions. I suffer from chronic hives. After my treatment, my hives disappeared for about a year. I have chronic neck and back pain and have never tried acupuncture or cupping, but had heard a lot about it. Typically I'm not into pseudo science but I actually felt much better after this. She's extremely motherly, warm, caring, kept covering me when I said I was cold, fed me a boiled apple (so it was sterilized ), gave me a hand made heat pillow for my neck for free so I could do heat therapy at home myself. She spends the time talking with you to ensure that you are feeling better during your session. This woman is doing God's work! I RARELY Yelp about anything or anyone that is not related to food, but I feel compelled to write about my visit to Dr. Bao Ping (Judy) Zeng's office yesterday. BACKGROUND: I've suffered quite a few injuries in my career. Two torn hamstrings, a bad back, and a bad knee. Recently, a neck/shoulder issue has put me on light duty. The discomfort starts in the base of my neck, travels to the shoulder area, and send pain and numbness down all the way to my finger tips. My western doctor diagnosed as a pinched nerve with possible disc degeneration in my neck. He told me it will probably go away in time but in the meantime acupuncture could provide some relief. My friend E and I were talking about her back issue weeks ago when she mentioned Dr. Zeng. I had heard about her and bookmarked this clinic a couple years ago. I decided it's time to pay Dr. Zeng a visit to see if she could help me with my latest medical setback. SETTING AN APPOINTMENT: It was tough to get a hold of Dr. Zeng. I attempted to reach her by calling her listed number. No callback. I decided a more aggressive approach was needed. I went straight to her Oakland office and made the appointment there. Just a note: I had to bang on her door for 10 minutes before she answered. OFFICE LOCATION: Dr. Zeng's office is located in an older apartment building on the fringe of Oakland Chinatown. You have to call Dr. Zeng by using the call box in order to gain access into the building. Watch your steps as they are narrow. DR. ZENG HERSELF: Dr. Zeng is a slender Chinese woman in her mid-60s. Her English is functional. Very polite and professional. COST: If paying with cash, it's $50. $70 if paying with a personal check. Credit cards/health insurance not accepted. MY VISIT: My visit took place yesterday. I arrived about 10 minutes early just in case there's paperwork involved. When I reached her office, Dr. Zeng's was already waiting at the door. The first words out of her mouth were: "Have you had breakfast yet?". I replied "No". She then handed me a fresh banana and a bottle of water and asked me to sit down while she continued to work on the patient ahead of me. After I finished the banana, I started looking around. Dr. Zeng's office was super tiny, maybe 100 sq ft or so. There were at least six shelves in her office that were full of books, boxes of Chinese herbs, and other miscellaneous items. A single bed was lined up against the two windows. A white curtain was hung to protect the patient's privacy. Before the start of my treatment, I was asked to sign a standard waiver form. Dr. Zeng then ushered me into the treatment area, which were just two steps away from the waiting area. She then excused herself and drew the curtain. From the other side of the curtain she asked me to take off my jeans and put on a pair of hospital pants. My treatment began with a series of questions from Dr. Zeng. Once she heard my history and complaint, she started working her magic. My full 90-minute treatment was a coordinated series of needle work and/or cupping from head to toe. During that time, I was either lying face down, on my side, or on my back. I did not notice any pain on any of the needle pricks or the cupping. In addition to the needles and cups, heat bags were also used during the treatment. Dr. Zeng and I had a very nice conversation during my treatment. She told me quite a bit about her life and her family. She is a devout Christian (Christian music was played during my whole time there). We talked about almost everything. She was very opinionated on certain subjects. When I told her about my job, she said, "If you were my son, I would never let you be a cop!". She also thinks I should run for office someday because of what I told her about my motivation of being a cop. Some people may think she's abrupt, but I could tell she's a very kind and motherly person. At the end of my treatment, Dr. Zeng asked me to move my arms and legs and rotate my shoulder. When I told her I still had some discomfort in one area, she told me to get back on the bed and worked on it some more. After the extra treatment, I felt a lot better than when I first walked in to her office. The radiating pain in my elbow and the soreness in my lower back were 90% gone. Although some numbness remained in the arm area, that's probably due to the nerve still being pinched. Acupuncture wouldn't be able to help in that regards anyway. After I paid her, she walked me to the door. After I thanked her, she gave me a deep bow and said, "Goodbye, new governor!". I just started laughing. CONCLUSION: It's been more than 24 hours since my treatment and I have to say I am feeling a lot better. I was able to get a lot of relief for my muscle soreness from Dr. Zeng's treatment. She is truly an amazing healer. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a great acupuncturist! read more

I went here last year during my freshman year at Berkeley. I've gotten acupuncture from a variety of people and Bao is one of the best. While painful at first, it was well worth it. She really makes sure that you get the most out of your sessions whether it's using cupping, needles, and other techniques. After my first session, she underscored how she wants to fix whatever pain issues I had as soon as possible and hoped to not see me after the third session. This held true because I felt a lot better after that session and didn't need to see her again. An important sidenote is that she is a devout Christian and plays Christian music in the background and often espouses her Christian viewpoints in conversation. Her office has a lot of stuff but it was organized and clean. Street paid parking is easy to find. I was lucky to put 2 hours in meter for this amazing 90 minute session. She always asked if I was okay thru out the session. She adjust heat pass when they got too hot. A very gracious older woman as I came back to offer her a tip which she declined. God Bless Dr. Judy! I came with a rib pain that had lasted 2 weeks and coughing that lasted 2 months. She worked on me nearly 2 hours, I sweat so much my shirt was wet so she gave me 2 shirts, "This is free. You should dress better. You don't dress warm enough". Last night was the first night that I slept without coughing and my rib pain is considerably less. Granted, on Friday I also went to Oakland Acupuncture Project and got an hour of needles sticking on me. Why oh why I didn't come earlier to acupuncture to treat my coughing. But I'm so glad I did, and finally got some rest from coughing. A note about interaction aspect of the visit. I have had my share of acupuncture, acupressure massages and cupping sessions but Judy did beyond any professionals I have had. She was thorough, skillful, knowledgeable, systematic in her approach and utilizes combination techniques ( acupuncture and cupping) simultaneously to help me achieve maximum relief in muscle tensions and painful knoxs in a single session. She provided palpable result that is nothing short of amazing from my past decades of searching but have never found. The relief in my scalar muscles that almost no one had gotten to. I was in elation. Expectations: An un-spectacular humble treatment office. It won't be toasty like a spa in the Winter but you will be wrapped with layers of warmed towels comfortable and secured. A reasonable fee of $50 cash that is not scalable even if she goes beyond an hour of treatment for you. A kind good hearted accupressurist with perfectly imperfect English. You need to speak up and point to where your pains and aches are. At the end of the session, be it that she asks or not, you speak up where your remaining aches, pains and numbness are located....watch her going into another session in relieving your remaining issues ...with no surcharges. Parking in the area can be a challenge so be there earlier. If you take Bart that's even better. The office building is right off a Bart station. Walking out like a spotted leopard. Of course that is not true for everyone who gets the cupping treatment. The more toxin or health issues, often time the darker the color of your spot. I found these suction spots got lighter as my aches and pain diminish progressively. Most commercial accupressurists will do the minimum for an exchange of your multiple returns but that's not Judy. She is a one woman practice with a somewhat ghetto operation--no admin staff, no patient files/paperwork, no standard business practices such as a "modern" appt system or cancellation policies. When you call to schedule an appt, she does not ask for a name, she makes a note of your phone number that you called from. This low-tech appointment system is flawed, therefore subject to snafus. I made an appointment by phone; Judy suggested an appt time later the same week. On the day of the appointment, she calls less than 3 hours prior to the appointment time, left a message asking if I am still making the appt (why wouldn't I?), if not then she will give it to another client. 7 minutes later, she called a second time, left a msg saying if I don't call her back she'll give the appt away. 2 minutes later, she called again and said, you are not answering so I'm canceling your appointment. So, basically, within 10 minutes (calls are all time-stamped), she had canceled my appointment. I called back later to and she was like, I called you 3 times and no answer. Yeah, 3 times within 10 minutes...giving me no time to respond. I rescheduled the appointment because I was curious about her healing skills. In person, she is very motherly and warm. She makes sure you are not there on an empty stomach. She gave me crackers and an orange to nosh on while she wrapped up her previous appt. The full appointment was quite extensive with constant acupuncture in various spots, cupping, and heat packs. There was major detox experienced after all this work, so you may feel worse at first before feeling better. Overall, based on the actual appt, I would consider trying her again. i came here after hearing extensive first hand accounts from my mom and aunties about how incredible Judy is, and let me tell you, she did not disappoint. God bless this woman. not only is Judy an incredibly skilled and hard working person, she is also so kind and motherly. i've been to many acupuncturists in the past who stick a couple needles in you and call it a day, but Judy is not that. she's been the first person i've gone to who is working and on her feet the full 90+ minutes i was there. that alone deserves so much respect, but she was also incredibly mindful of where i was feeling pain, always checking in and tailoring my treatment to my specific needs. although the treatment itself is not a walk in the park, hours later i'm feeling much looser and more comfortable compared to the months of chronic pain i was suffering beforehand. definitely recommend this office. Parking is a bit hard to find around the area so try to account for that time and extra money. *** I could write a long review of my back pain for the last 20 years and how Dr Judy is the only Dr, I repeat only Dr, to have significantly and substantially helped with the pain, but you can see that from the rest of her reviews! All you need to know is: - you will leave feeling great - yes. rarely some needles will hurt but if you're already in awful pain, then this is a cakewalk and worth it. she does cupping and it doesn't hurt. - bring cash. It's $50 and I try to leave a tip. - she's closed on Sundays - her first appt is at 830am and last appt is at 4pm. This woman is awesome! She uses acupuncture, cupping, heat pads, and pressure points. You can really tell that she is into healing, not money. She didn't want to quit till all pain was gone and I could bend. A wiry woman with awesome strength. Other places want you to come back 5-10x. I'm suffering from major lower back pains that have turned so bad after seeing multiple visits to chiro, pt, acupuncturist, doctors, etc for past 3 weeks. I think I've spent over 1k. I was ready to try anything. Judy was recommended by my friend who had sciatica but healed after one visit. Now I can bend, put on my socks, sit on the toilet and there's no pain. I read through every single one of the reviews on here, but nothing really prepared me for what I experienced. Although I'd never actually experienced acupuncture or cupping, I had seen my mom get it done so I figured it was NBD. When I arrived I explained that my back, shoulders, neck, and feet hurt all the time, and she was like, "... So you hurt everywhere?" Yup. The cupping and acupuncture varies from uncomfortable to painful (depending on the location), I'll admit, and I have a really high pain tolerance. But you get used to it, and it's no more than whatever pain you came in with. She is ridiculously strong, but there wasn't as much massaging as I expected. Just mainly cupping/acupuncture. I didn't even really explain exactly where my pains were but somehow SHE KNEW. What I really wanted to talk about was the mental therapy she provided. I started crying (not from the pain) and was embarrassed, but she was SO encouraging and told me that tears were toxins being released. She also scolded me for not getting enough sleep and putting too much stress on myself. It was like she was looking into my soul, because she brought up many issues in my life/self that were spot on. So yes, I'm glad I went because the majority of my pain is gone, but I'm SO grateful for the mental counseling she provided. I don't know if it was just a pull muscle or sprain on my trapezius muscle group as I did a workout and felt it was inflame stinging sensation. First I didn't notice but over night boy it hurt so bad I couln't even wear my slingbag to work. Sitting at work thinking about what went wrong during my workout routine. A colleague of mines told me to go to this place on webster st. I ask what do they specialized in and was told muscle pain, well acupuncture. I did a search since there wasn't a name for it and all I know is the practitioner name Judy. Scan through all the places read the reviews til a mention of Judy comes up. Found it and gave her a call asap and was told to come in at 2pm. I obliged said yes I can make it please be ready for me with no wait. Came 1:47pm a little early but better than late. Almost walk into another place next door and thought for a minute there. I went next door for a sports related injury and the masseuse told me to take off my clothes. I bounce out out that place right away thinking back that place is a front. Don't believe it go there and ask for a massage see what else service they recommend. Anyway this place is basically upstairs in a hallway type of place like dentist or lawyer offices share businesses. First thing I saw was the metal gate with a door buzzer to get in battery died wasn't replace. I knock on the wall and she heard me. Once i enter it felt like one of those places in chinatown were families of 6 or more cramps in one room with makeshift everything. Medicine boxes stack as high as it can go without tipping over her supplies tuck away in a corner cover with a cloth. At this point I was thinking about an escape route in case something does happen for unknown reasons. My idea was that if someone comes through to do her harm I would dive through the two sets of windows and make a jump for life. I took my spot at the massage table faceside down through the cut out hole. She place these hot bags of coals all over my body clothes still on. Bags after bags were toss on me picture hot sandbags stack on you with blankets covering every inch of body. She said she will do a complete body check up compress and warm the tense muscles. The only annoying thing is the microwave as she toss the coal bags in there every 30-45 seconds I hear beep,beep,beep,beeeeep. I didn't care how she use her equipments but that microwave is something else. She has her computer hook up to soft relaxing rainforest sounds I felt hummimgbirds next to me lol. After about 15 she took them out and started using her skills on places were pressure points are located. Points were wipe down with alcohol wipes and needles gently and efficiently tap into place. Into the session about 45 minutes I started to feel better already and I havn't left the place yet. First sets of needles remove and she ask me to tell her if any pain was bothering me. The next thing was 1 1/4in' plastic cups place on area were the needles were at. Now this is the funny part with a piece of cloth covering my eyes. I really thought she was using a penis pump because of the sound an my mind thinking of that lol. It wasn't what I said it was instead it's made for that purpose the suck out toxins with the blood and skin. Final conclusion is that my body is balance now the Qi is once again flowing all impurities gone. This whole experience was worth every dollar and more. Where can you get a 90 minute acupuncture for $45? Judy is a very experience practitioner it shows in her work. There was a moment were she pick up my left side of legs with knuckles trying to find a point and I said ouch it hurts, she said do you have stomach issues? To me it's kind of creepy in a way but don't care at this point. When she said I was done I really wanted to pluck down another $45 didn't want to leave. A receipt was given hand written for insurance purposes I guess she bow so many times in front of me I was startled. I said thank Judy turn around and jog down staircase. I just got home after an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G session with Bao Zeng. This was my first time seeing her, basing my decision on prior YELP reviews. The reviews are SPOT ON! Her office is located on the 2nd floor in an older wooden building near Chinatown on Webster. Yes, I'll admit, a bit seedy, the building rickety, and her office IS cluttered but organized, with everything neatly stacked and orderly. She charges $45 for 90 minutes of her time. Her English is sparse and a bit broken. Talk slowly, and use few selected words to get across your point. However: Don't act insulting towards her b/c she isn't fluent in your native language. When I arrived I mentioned to her that my left elbow/forearm was painful (tennis elbow/tendinitis). I also told her that I had stiffness between my shoulder blades. She smiled and mentioned that during her session, she works on the 'whole body', but she would also concentrate on those areas mentioned. As others have mentioned, she is diligently applying heat packs, needles, and suction cups the entire time during the 90 minutes. Face down, side, then face up. I will also mention that she has very, very strong thumbs (for such a lithe older lady with such a slight build). She possess the type of strength (in those thumbs) enough to bring on the pain. Very effective and an integral part of her treatment. At the end of the treatment the tendinitis in my elbow was GONE: I have had this for 3 years. She made it go away in one session! Like I said: Amazing! My stiffness between the shoulder blades also disappeared. Shoulder muscles were loose and relaxed when I left her office. When she finished, and was paid, I asked her when I might need to return, thinking that a 'tune-up' might be in order. She looked at me strangely, saying that I need not return, only if I have pain in my body again. She is not interested in any up-selling. She knows what she does, and if you do have pain ANYWHERE on your body, you know where to go to make it go away. She is simply the best! Enough Sed! read more

I have been going to Judy for the past 5 years, and have nothing but praise for her. She is my angel that gets me walking again. She should charge way more than she does for the miracles she performs. She meticulously uses a combination of acupuncture, acupressure, localized cupping, and heating of the meridian to get rid of the blockages in your body to get your body's chi to start flowing again. I recommend her to anyone who prefers ancient proven holistic Chinese medicine to more mainstream western medicine methods of cut it or numb it. My recommendation, go to your doctor get the diagnostic test and then go straight to Judy. I have gone to her completely bent at the hips and in insane pain from my back locking up, and have left walking fully upright and pain-free after 1.5 hours of treatment. The lady was beyond nice, and although she spoke English, this was one of those moments where all credit goes to my parents for reinforcing a Mandarin-only-household childhood. If I could I would give Ms. Judy 50 stars. I have had the pleasure of being treated by her on 3 separate occasions. Each time, I walked in suffering, and each time I emerged younger, thinner and more intelligent than when I had arrived. OK, probably not accurate, but if I could measure my health in these terms ... I could swear this was the closest to my feelings at the time. The first time I was blessed with meeting Judy, I had returned from a European Trip where I had been walking 10+ miles daily for weeks ... or attempting to, until debilitating pain began shooting through my right hip in the 3rd week. Needless to say, my trip was less than I had hoped it would be. The pain was so severe, I would lie awake and with out crying, tears would fall like goose eggs down my cheeks. By the time I arrived back in the bay area I was convinced that I had crossed that threshold, where no matter the good health and exercise I do, I was not to be allowed to stay a stranger to ageing and the pains that are inevitable for us who pass (lets say for the sake of this review) over 40. In ONE session, I was relatively healed. Boy-O-Boy did I feel dramatic. All that pain I had endured and energy wasted! If I had only known there was such a healer as Ms. Judy and that relief was so close. She listened carefully, touched me with knowledge in her hands, and followed her intuition and training. She spoke kindly and humbly, and by the time I left my first ever acupuncture session, I knew I had chosen well. A few days later, all the pain had subsided. Now, 8 months later, I am active, biking, walking, swimming roller-skating, kayaking and sitting too long at my computer ... No hip pain. At all. Judy said to me, that it is her wish that I go away, and not return. To never see me again. I know now, that she is a true healer. She is not delivering half treatments to insure return clients. The only reason I returned to her was for completely unrelated issues. One was a concussion and head lump the size of a medium red potato from a bike accident, and the other was for intestinal blockage. Each time. Amazing results. I cannot recommend her more. Judy is all everyone says she is! She is extremely focused, no frills, the REAL DEAL! She provides a 90 minute appointment in which she does not stop needling, cupping, heating, rubbing---for 90 minutes!!!! It is not fancy--so you are warned. But it's clean. I was very, very sick with an infection in my lungs that was also causing extreme joint pain and immobility. By the next day, I was 85% better. the following, I was well enough to return to my life fully. The cost is $50 and I tipped her $10. The dedication she puts in was well worth the money! Wife found this while looking for massage options. Whatever everyone else has written about this place, it doesn't do justice to how amazing Dr. Zeng is. I've been dealing with back and shoulder pain pretty consistently for the last 5 years, and today was particularly rough with lower back pain. I went this evening, and no kidding, when I left, I didn't feel any pain or tweaks, which is probably the first time I haven't been sore or in pain longer than I can remember. Dr. Zeng also did a great job providing follow-up instructions to make sure that I didn't re-injure myself. I absolutely cannot recommend her enough, and honestly, I would've paid a LOT more to feel this normal. read more

Straight forward acupuncture and cupping treatment, she want right for the pain in my neck/shoulders, while also unearthed and helped to heal carpal pain in my wrist, and a sore heal. She also somehow connected pain in my left shin to my stomach (!?). $45 for 90 minute session (I'll see if Kaiser covers it and update). not here to vent - just inform. there are many fantastic reviews here - which is why i went to this acupuncturist. i've been to acupuncture many times before so i know how it works in general. judy is a nice person, i get the sense she really wants to do the work and help. she works hard. i went in for a sore/injured forearm - pretty basic for acupuncture. after the whole session i did not feel any relief for the arm. when she asked "how does it feel now", i said "the same". to note - she barely worked on the arm as she had me all over the table sticking needles, and cupping (which left bruises) in my ear, foot, back, front etc.. (i am aware that needling to move chi doesn't always correlate to the same spot as the injury), however her 'game-plan' to help my arm did not result into anything but a waste of my time to be honest. and so i felt i needed to add this review of my experience. a few particulars 1. there was absolutely no diagnostics done before treatment. no pulse or tongue read. no history, nothing. i was only asked why i was there, then she went to work 2. she did cupping but did not ask if i was ok with it. they leave bruises for about a week (see photo) 3. place is messy, cluttered and disorganized. doesn't reflect a clear/healthy mindset for a health practitioner. thats just an opinion of mine - might be wrong. but her work was as messy as the room. read more

I went in for a chronic pain in my shoulders and arms falling asleep at night. She worked for an hour and a half, covering me with hot bags of rice and using needles and cups all over my body. However, she hardly worked on the area that I had indicated was painful and problematic, and as another reviewer suggested, she seemed to have a routine that would have been consistent regardless of my complaint (she never palpated my body, and barely looked when i was showing her where the pain was). Some of the experience was relaxing, but if anything I feel worse, not better, today. It may be because several of the positions i was in on the table were directly on the parts of my body that are in pain or involved putting my hands over my head with pressure from bags on my upper back, for example. Having taken several years of acupuncture training myself, I also am not sure about the efficacy of her needling. She put them all over, but I rarely felt chi moving. In all, it is an affordable experience that has some benefits (its nice to be covered in hot rice bags), but i wouldn't recommend it for a specific issue. read more

Dr. Judy is great. Not only was I able to get an appointment quickly, but I received cupping, acupuncture and massage for the price of a 30 minute massage. Judy worked on my back and alignment issues for at least an hour. I walked out pain free. If you visit, know that she's all about business. There's no foofooness going on. She's a very focused lady and slap quiet. You will have to walk up a small flight of stairs to get to get office, so if you're in a lot of pain and have trouble with stairs, give yourself a couple extra minutes. read more

No Frills, No Fluff Just 90 Minutes Of Straight Bodywork! Needed some help for my herniated C5, slipped disc and degenerative end plates. I've been having regular tension headaches, a lot of neck strain, strained eyes, tense shoulders, abnormal curvature of my cervical, numbness/tingling of head, shoulders and arm. I called and made an appt for a couple days out. Pretty easy to find parking on the street. Eating a small meal before coming is recommended. Before coming in, I wrote down my issues and concerns on a piece of paper and handed it to Ms Judy. Right away, she went straight to work. Expect cupping, acupuncture and non stop body work. Immediately after I did feel somewhat "beat up" but noticed how much better and more relaxed my muscles felt. A couple hours after my appointment, my body started to settle in and definitely felt the difference. I was moving better, my constant neck pain was subsiding and overall just felt like I was functioning more fluidly. This was just after one appointment! I finally followed up on a recommendation from a friend to go see Judy. I just fell in love with her and her commitment to help me feel better. I started acupuncture about ten years ago while in China on a trip, So I have visited many acupuncturists over the years. Judy wanted to make sure that I was healed, not just treated. She put lots of needles in me, and did cupping all over, which I had not experienced before. Was there for a while, and just got lost in her magical work. I left there feeling like a new woman....what a treat Judy is! Run there, now....she will change your life!!! I love Judy's treatment room. On 7/12/2019 at 10am I had an appointment with Bao Ping Zing for acupuncture to treat a sore lower back from a 5 hour Spirit Air Flight . I showed her where the lower back pain was and that it was also in my right leg. Pao Ping Zing preformed acupuncture for about 40 minutes and asked me to walk. There was no improvement. Bao Ping Zing then did a series of extremely painful acupuncture procedures around the lower spine. After the treatment I could barely walk and was in extreme pain. I went to the restroom and could not walk so I sat in a chair in the hall in total pain and muscle spasm. Bao Ping Zing came out to the hall and told me to GET OUT! I told her that how am I supposed to move? I would need an ambulance. She replied GET OUT! I eventually made it to my car and immediately went to my primary care physician at Kaiser. Two days later I was in the emergency room. After an MRI I was diagnosed with a herniated disk and pinched nerve. After discussing Pao Ping Zing's treatment with other acupuncturists, I was informed that when there is a pinched nerve you do not attempt to treat the immediate area. It has been 2 months of acute pain. I am currently scheduled for spine surgery. In my opinion Pao Ping Zing is the worst practitioner of health services I've ever experienced in my life. I am 64 years old. Anyone who causes or exacerbates an injury, and then with no compassion, tries to kick you out of the building when you're mobility is severely compromised; should be put out of business for the safety of the community. read more
