One of the best Chinese restaurants in town. The orange crispy beef is so unique; so crunchy and delicious. They also cook some of the best Springfield-style chicken+rice dishes around, and they serve everything HOT, steaming off the wok. I recommend the General, but add a little heat to it because they go pretty easy on the spices. Four stars+ for me, and it's still not too intense. Awesome place for authentic chinese food!! Its a small restaurant with plenty of flavors. Me and my kids come here most of the time. They have the best wonton soup and steam dumpling. Bao Bao is AMAZINNNNNG!!!! The crab rangoon was the best I've had too. I ordered off of the traditional menu and the employees came to me hush-hush and asked if it was really what I wanted because no one other than "traditional" people order that dish. I was not impressed. Although in fairness to the restaurant no Chinese food from this area impresses me. I am from NYC and believe me the food from NY is way different. There is a better flavor, more ingredients. For instance, the crab Rangoon in this town is hilarious there's no crab in it. Not so in NY. I ordered the egg roll, hot and sour soup, steamed pork dumplings, and the traditional Kung Pao beef with rice. So.. here we go.. Egg roll: it was tasty. It was crunchy and had a good tangy flavor. I wasn't blown away but I did enjoy it ! Hot and sour soup: I read reviews that it was the best in town but I know that not to be true. It was good but had a distinct chili flavor that was outside the norm for hot and sour soup. It was good to eat but I don't know that I'd get this again. Steamed pork dumplings: the sauce was delicious! It was sweet, salty, a little tangy. The dumplings were good but I'm pretty sure they are frozen, company made dumplings. They were good either way but I could buy them in the frozen aisle at Walmart. Kung Pao Beef: SO GOOD. This dish was so great- the beef was tender and thin cut with a tangy, spicy sauce and peanuts. This was my first time trying Bao Bao. We had 5 people and we all wanted Chinese food and decided we would try Bao Bao. I love the location, it's such a nice area. We went inside, we were pleasantly greeted, and were seated with menus. The prices were very reasonable. All of our dinners came out really hot and in good time. We all enjoyed our dinner, the food was delicious and we all had something different. I had General chicken, fried rice, and Crabrangoon, I loved everything. The Crabrangoon was very good, crispy, and fried to perfection. My General Chicken was great, you can choose your spice level, I like spicy and it had a great kick. My rice was good, perfectly cooked. Even though Springfield is the home of "Cashew Chicken", good Chinese Restaurants are few and far between, this is definitely a good one. One of the few Chinese places to deliver through Grub Hub. I ordered the Combination Lo mein, Wonton soup and an egg roll. Best item...the egg roll. Crunchy, flavorful and they provided the hot mustard I asked for. Moving right along to the soup. Wonton soup is a hearty broth and filled wontons, . There were wonton pieces and vegetables. Yes you read that right. Vegetables. NOT what the Dr ordered. The combo lo-mein? Well, very bland noodles with chicken, beef and 1 shrimp. I guess it was a combination of items. Best Chinese food in Springfield. Definitely a hidden gem. They have both American Chinese and more traditional options. The prices are great and you get a lot for them. You can get a soup for just over a buck! The chicken is always fresh, juicy and in big pieces. Most things come with an egg roll and crab rangoon and those are always tasty as well. The only thing I wish was different is that I lived closer so I could get over there more often! read more

I got the duck and it was good but it was way too rich and just needed something like vegetables to balance it out. It would've been good as maybe an appetizer with fried wonton chips. I couldn't eat more than a few bites, I think they should cut the amount of duck in half and add vegetables to it and I would still pay the same amount. We have been back several times. The food is very good. I recommend the meatball hot pot, the kung poa beef or chicken, the steamed dumplings are great and did not come off the back of a Sysco truck. It is rare for me to give a restaurant a five star rating, but let me validate that point. I have been eating Chinese cuisine since 1978. I had the Hunan Beef, Green Beans, Sesame Chicken Egg Drop Soup and Rice. It was amazingly flavorful and properly cooked. We have been living in Springfield since January and have been disappointed until tonight at every attempt to find anything compared to what we are accustomed to in Mississippi or Houston, Texas. I was traveling and my flight arrived earlier than hotel check in so I decided to stop in Bao Bao for some steamed dumplings and hot and sour soup. (This is my Chinese Restaurant Flavor Test to see if I will return). This drop-in was based on others positive reviews of steamed dumplings, not the soup. As a point of awareness, I grew up in the NY/NJ area on Chinese Food and that is my baseline / standard for taste. My subjective opinion. The Steamed Dumplings - Upon opening my takeout box, I knew I would be disappointed. They were flat, not crescent shaped. The hand pinched pleats were just as flat as the overall dumpling. The flavor was not present. I really like a good pork dumpling with hints of soy sauce, ginger, sesame oil and scallion. These dumplings were lacking flavor. The dipping sauce was okay, but lacked oils that stick to the dumpling. The Hot and Sour Soup - The color and consistency were good but the flavor was lacking as well. I enjoy a good balance of hot (white pepper & red pepper) and good sour (vinegar) mixed with good soy sauce. This was light on all three. The veggies were fine, the soy cubes were fine, but the overall flavor was missing. I want Chinese food to be bold and tell you its different than other cuisines, but unfortunately these two items pander to the masses and don't represent who they could really be. I cant tell you if you would like this establishment, I don't know your food bias, but if you like bold flavorfull foods, these items, which can be wonderful, don't tell me the rest of the menu should be explored. read more

Great service and despite such a tiny dining room in their very small space, it felt comfy and even a bit romantic. Great atmosphere! A word to the wise, as you enter Chesterfield Village there's not a very noticeable sign for Bao Bao but it's just to the right on the same section as Prima's Mexican restaurant. After an unseasonably warm morning of hiking, I was in the mood for something a little lighter than say, kung pao chicken...Bao Bao's Chinese menu offered so many appetizing options but I wound up going with the mushroom and bok choy and it was the perfect entrée. The steamed rice alongside delicate, perfectly cooked vegetables in a glorious not-over-the-top sauce...yes! I'll definitely be back. However, the star of the table was my husband's tofu and celery dish. The tofu was amazing! We loved the versatility of a Chinese menu and American "Springfield style" menu. I tried this restaurant today for the first time. It was around 3:30 when my mom and I went in. We were the only patrons. Service was prompt and we were well taken care of. We both really enjoyed our dishes. She had the general chicken and I had the mandarin sweet and spicy. We both chose fried rice with our meals. Also ordered an appetizer of crab Rangoon. Visiting Springfield for the weekend. Heard about cashew chicken from this area and looked up several places. This place had great reviews so the wife and I decided to come here. Walked in and the place was smaller than I thought but that didn't bother me. There were only two tables with guest. We were seated around the corner at a table. Waitress walked off and came back a few minutes later asking for our drinks. We ordered drinks. We received those promptly. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. You could see the constant food delivery companies coming in constantly and leaving with food. After about 15-20 minutes, we got up and left. We were never waited on after receiving our drinks. They didn't even care we were there. The owner or manager just looked at us and didn't even care. They seemed they only care about their take out service. All we received here was crap service and smelling like nasty grease. We left and went one mile away to Leong's. That place was amazing. Amazing amazing amazing place! This is my favorite restaurant in Springfield - it has both a "Springfield Style" and a "Traditional" Menu, which is fantastic! For my husband's birthday, we pre-ordered the slow cooked duck, which was slow roasted in a marinade of soy sauce and sugar. It was hands down the best I've ever tasted! Today we tried the potstickers, I've had steamed dumplings in San Francisco once but guess I never tried pot stickers, they were so good, I will be dreaming of having them again. My favourite Chinese dish in Arizona was Beef with green beans so tried it here, a bit different but none the less this was good. The Rangoon and egg roll was equally good. Hubby had mushroom chicken which he ordered quite often in Arizona, he liked it here. Usually have a good experience here. Ordered take out. I knew the person taking my order over the phone was confused about what I ordered..: so I had them read it back to me. She read what I wanted to order, so I was like okay great they got it. But they still wrote down something else. They were new and weren't familiar with the menu yet, which I understand, but to completely ignore me twice and still instead actually write down what I didn't want...was frustrating. When I called back to explain that I didn't order this...The supervisor didn't seem to interested in fixing it. "Well what do you want me to do about it". I wish she would have said can I make another one or offer a refund, but no, "what do you want me to do about it". I will sum it all up to communication error, the new employee was told to write down what the customer wants and that the two items weren't the same thing, but still a frustrating situation. read more
