Not as good as it should be. ER doctors aren't their's, they are contracted and separate entities…read more The ER is typical of them..crowded, you get lost in the queue and quality of care is hit or miss. When my Dr went in for an emergency, complicated back problems, top notch (thank goodness) and was admitted to Barrows for surgery with the neurosurgeon highly rated and a concerned doctor giving my daughter a chance...and what an excellent doctor! Still a better hospital than any Banner so I'd recommend them out of that alone, but their rating is in the toilet concerning me.

Don't love this hospital. The nurses we have encountered were amazing.... All of them! Not a single…read morecomplaint. All were attentive and helpful when in need. Nurses aside, the rest of the staff has question marks. Let's start with the gestapo ICE wannabes sitting in the emergency room that ask you what you are doing there and then tell you to go stand in line. They cannot hear a thing behind that stupid glass. Just cover your face like your heroes and get rid of the glass. The doctors all seem concerned on what happened on a test 5 years ago so much more so than a current test result. The high blood pressure from 5 years ago has already been addressed... as you can tell by the current readings. As a visitor, one day I walk in freely and go where I want, no questions asked. The next day a dude runs me down like he's a free safety to tell me he has to check me in and give me a designer paper bracelet to wear. If the free safety is correct, the day 1 staff should be fired for dereliction of duty. Why is it not possible to assume that anybody not in a hospital gown is a visitor? Why is the bracelet necessary? Somebody got paid to come up with this idea.

I am writing here to give my 2 cents and some advice. Do not go with United health care. my problem…read morestarted in 2024 when i went to the dentist and found out that I needed some teeth pulled and a temp bridge put in. Needed time for the swelling to go done. in 2025 I went back and refitted me for a permanent Bridge .So far no problem untill i received a letter from the dentist that i owed them $$ . I contacted them and they said the insurance denied them and that I must paid or they will file a refusal of payment. Now the fun part , calling United Health Care. Oh that's not us let me switch you over to the dentist department. Gave them my information and they said ok we see you but we can't see the denial , that's another dept. Back to the first dept and they said it looks like the Dentist put in the wrong code. You must call the Dentist and get the correct code and grievance the denail. Dentist. we gave in the right codes, the first was for a temp and the second is for the permanent. Called back UHC and they said o I see , ok will forard this over. Waited and no response. Called back UHC (and you know I get a different person every time and have to start from the start )and asked what's the story , gave my information and had to start from the beginning again. They said I needed to also send in a request so I started aging righting the story again and fax it to Office and received a confirmation. Waited and nothing. So call UHC and started over with the information and said I was waiting for a response. They looked in notes and see no fax or request. So I repeated the story 3-5 more times and they typed it all in and said they will forward it on and to wait for a response. 2026 and I get a notice of it timing out for the 65 days you get to respond. I call UHC and start from the beginning and go back and forth. The day ended and so did the phone call. The next day I called UHC and started form the start , she said she needed to get someone else on the phone for more information and started from the start. The new person said she could put the request again but doesn't think it will have and just get denied . I said lets do it any way. I pick up the mail and see a letter from guess who-UHC. Open it up and see it saying they were trying to get it touch we me and that the email was returned. Called UHC and gave my information. Started from the beginning again and he said to hold on. Came back and said my request will most likely get denied again and said I can request a outside to exam the case. Then he went on and said that UHC sees a temp and a permanent bridge as the same and will turn down any request as this is there policy. Then have a nice day and good luck. So the bottom line is they will never pay for a permanent bridge after a temp. And as everyone knows when you get teeth pulled you need to wait 6months or more for the swelling to go down. So you need temps for that time. Rich C

As a board-certified spine surgeon, I just finished a peer-to-peer review with a UnitedHealthcare…read morephysician reviewer regarding one of my patients. The experience was deeply frustrating. My patient has two cervical disc herniations causing spinal cord compression. Based on my clinical evaluation, imaging, and the available medical literature, I recommended cervical artificial disc replacement because it preserves motion and is an appropriate treatment option for carefully selected patients. The procedure was denied--not because the patient was not suffering, not because conservative treatment had not failed, and not because there was a better evidence-based alternative. It was denied because UnitedHealthcare's internal policy considered the patient's degree of disc degeneration outside its criteria for disc replacement, despite my belief that the recommendation was medically appropriate. What makes this particularly difficult to understand is that UnitedHealthcare was willing to approve a fusion, which permanently eliminates motion at the involved levels, while denying a motion-preserving procedure that I believe is in my patient's best interest. When an insurer approves a more invasive operation while denying a less motion-sacrificing alternative for policy reasons rather than individualized medical judgment, patients lose. Insurance companies absolutely have a responsibility to control costs and prevent inappropriate care. But those policies should evolve with high-quality clinical evidence and allow physicians to exercise individualized medical judgment. Blanket policy restrictions that override the treating surgeon's expertise can delay optimal care and force patients into treatment pathways they may not have otherwise chosen. My frustration is not about a disagreement between physicians--that happens in medicine. It is about patients being caught between evidence-based clinical decision-making and rigid insurance policies. Patients deserve decisions driven first by medicine, not by checkboxes.

Every interaction has been professional, compassionate, and centered around providing the best possible care for patients and their families. Summer has been absolutely phenomenal. I will tell you that during this long stay, we interacted with dozens of different teams. And this was an overall good experience. From the security people, nurses, techs, doctors, cafe staff, and even the cleaning crew- we were treated respectfully and everyone communicated with us. And these doctors took the time to really explain what was happening. I know from stays at other hospitals that family is often left in the dark about how and what needs to be done, but they have all been very transparent and ensure we know what they know.

The RN assigned to us was somewhat polite, but when we asked for water for the patient, we were told we could get it ourselves rather than being assisted. I also did not observe the IV port being sanitized before medication was administered, and a green disinfecting cap was not placed on the IV afterward. In addition, the pads the patient was lying on had visible blood on them and were not changed. I ended up removing the soiled pad from underneath her myself. These are basic cleanliness and sanitation practices that are important in a hospital setting. The experience left me feeling like I had to closely watch the care being provided to make sure things were being done properly. I hope hospital leadership or patient relations reviews this feedback and reinforces proper care standards for future patients.
