This is my absolute favorite Thai place. I have brought many of my friends here too and everyone has loved it. I think the favorite amongst us all is the pineapple fried rice that is served in a pineapple shell. Their fresh spring rolls are refreshing and very good portioned and not dry like other places. I also enjoy their shrimp and pineapple curry. I am not sure there is anything I have ordered that I didn't like. I also enjoy getting their Thai iced tea with my meal. The food and service are great here. You never wait long for a table. Lots and lots of parking available. A large variety of menu options with several meat choices or vegetarian options. I had one of the best bread puddings I have ever had. An apricot with coconut bread pudding served with vanilla or coconut ice cream. Pineapple fried rice is good by itself. SO GOOD! Sa-tay chicken skewers were okay. Not dry, but the quality seemed less than basic. They were thin and small. The peanut sauce is pretty good though. Lastly, we got the pa-nang curry with shrimp, medium spicy. It was a little too spicy for me to enjoy thoroughly. I've had some darn-good pa-nang curry. Maybe try a different one. The reviews reccomended yellow curry. I just normally love pa-nang curry. Slightly disappointed. The female server came over several times to take our order. She didn't seem very happy to serve us, or be there. Awkward. Still, come check it out! Watch out with Google maps because it took us to the households around the backside. Or maybe I just got lost. After driving in the rain from Windsor, CA to Aptos, CA, we decided to have Thai food and the best one around is Bangkok West. We were seated immediately and the place is decorated like something I'd expect in Thailand! We had the chicken satay, pad thai, and fried bananas with coconut ice cream. I went for this restaurant based on ratings in yelp but it was a total disappointment. We ordered all vegetarian items in the menu specifically calling out "no eggs" during the phone ordering and still ended up with eggs on some of them. I visited Bangkok West this past weekend for dinner. I had some soup that was pretty good although the mushrooms were still raw, but still good soup, but the main dish was #52 on the menu, "Roast Duck" . It was awful and it was $16.95. It ended up being your basic sweet and sour type sauce, not my favorite, but that's personal taste. The menu says "mixed vegetables, black soy bean and ginger sauce", so I wasn't expecting a sweet sauce, but still, I could live with that. What I found to be so awful was that it was essentially a stir fry with some vegetables and a lot of duck fat and duck skin. When I was done I had a mound of fat and skin on the side of my plate. I ate just the vegetables. There were literally a couple of tiny morsels of duck meat. I might go back there some day, but I would recommend not getting one of their duck dishes unless it's rubbery fat and skin that you like. read more

One of the best Thai restaurants I have actually came across, and this is my honest opinion, totally not because Mindhya, of course. They have a good selection of curry, noodle and rice dishes, and a fair selection of beer and alcoholic beverages (which I wish I was able to try but just came from a 7 hour tattoo session and soon had a drive back to San Jose). After a long hike we were craving for some good food and thought to give this place a shot. Great ambience and beautifully decorated. The restaurant has a large menu with lots of options. You can also get vegetarian equivalent of many non vegetarian dishes. We ordered thai ice coffee for drinks which was really good. For food we got green curry, panang curry, tofu and pineapple curry, and fried rice. Fried rice was good but curry's were just ok. We did not have to wait for seating and even our food was served pretty fast, probably because there was no one at the restaurant when we went. Overall an average place to have Thai food. read more

Whether it's pad thai, noodles, Tom kah Gai soup, massa man curries, thai drinks-- this place has YUM written all over it. Every single meal, all wonderful. The decor: this place is consistently the most relaxing restaurant, with gorgeous giant statues, carvings and numerous pieces clearly imported from Thailand. Even when it's busy, I've found it to be a calm place. Have a tough day? Relax here. In fact, you have to pass through a beautiful Zenlike garden before you enter their front door. Quality service, very helpful and attentive. Sure, on the extremely busy nights service can be impacted. But I've found, over many years, that service is usually really great. After many harried work days, this restaurant has been my go to place. It always relaxes me, their foods are consistently high quality and delicious. We started with the Sa-Tay very tasty (5 skewers, a reasonable serving for $8 to address a prior review about prices & sizes of appetizers) For dishes we had the Pad Thai (as always at a new Thai place), Sweet Thai Basil Beef (very nice), house special Honey Spare Ribs, a bit fatty but very tasty. There is no way this is "authentic" Thai food and I have no idea how it got 4 stars. I got their veggie coconut soup, pineapple rice and pad thai since it was recommended. I liked the soup at first, but it left some odd and uncomfortable taste in my mouth that I could not get rid off and unfortunately, the soup was also the only thing that had any flavor or even a hint of spice in it. The pineapple rice wasn't anything special but at least it was eatable unlike the pad thai. I have never in my life not finished pad thai... this was the first. Improvements needs to be made it... I really wanted to like this place but I was so disappointed. If this was 2/3 stars I would have expected this kind of quality and not wrote a review -- 4 stars is not accurate. Maybe for people who have never eaten thai food before... I have no idea. Personally, it wasn't worth the money. If you want Thai food, make your way over the hill. If you live here like me and are craving Thai food... learn how to make it. I'm more than certain it would be better. read more

We were visiting the Santa Cruz area, and picked up a friend staying in Aptos. This was a surprisingly delicious and fun find! The food was positively delicious. We had the Tom Kha with both the chicken and artichoke and it was full of flavor and generous amounts of chicken and artichoke. We also had the Crab Cheese and the were chock full of really lovely crab. Additionally we tried the fresh spring rolls and they were full of fresh veggies and seared tofu. For our main courses we ordered the Rhad Na, Princess Duck and Panang Curry. All were lovely renditions of these dishes. The skin of the duck was crispy and the duck itself was moist, the noodle dish had great texture and the Panang had layers of delicious flavor. Service was quite good. I came here with a friend for lunch on a Sunday, so no lunch buffet. We came during the Cabrillo College winter break so we were the only people in the restaurant besides the staff - they were very friendly, quick, and attentive. The interior is gorgeously decorated. We shared Thai iced tea, fresh spring rolls, spicy green curry with pork and bamboo shoots, and pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp (served, as others have mentioned, in a glorious half-pineapple). Everything was super duper delicious and fresh, and the portions were large enough that we were both able to eat our fill and take home leftovers. It's a bit of a drive from the Westside for even a bi-weekly excursion, but I'll be sure to eat here whenever I'm in the area. read more

Lunch Buffet was so good that I hit this spot twice in 1 week- here's what I love about Bangkok West 1) Food- they offer brown rice so you have a healthier alternative for your carbs, their spring roll and coconut curry (white) are awesome. Solid Thai food with surprisingly good service (I haven't come to expect that at Thai restaurants over the years) in a cool atmosphere. That's how I'd sum up Bangkok West. I had the Pad Khee Mao with Tofu, and thought it was great. The tofu was average, but the rest of the dish was spot on. Thought the spice level was perfect. I also had the Tom Kha soup, and I found it to be a bit more sour than I'm used to. I found myself wanting that familiar umami flavor, but this one was a bit off balance. Not sure if it was just the bowl I had, or if that's just how they make it. I wouldn't order it again. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, and I thought the service was friendly and helpful. Impressive given that it appeared as though only two women were running the whole front of house. The location seemed so random to me, but hey, that's okay, because I found it, and I got me some good Thai food! I can't complain. read more
