Sushi Garden has extremely fresh and clean cuts of fish and has a super cute garden with a koi pond and an inviting outdoor patio seating!! Inside, natural light floods in through giant windows overlooking the garden. Time to try sushi: - Chirashi - Sushi Garden Special (sashimi + nigiri combo) The fish is incredibly fresh and clean! For either of these, you get thick cuts of buttery melt-in-your-mouth fresh salmon, toro (tuna belly), hamachi. There were other cuts of fish but these truly stood out. For such premium cuts, it's a pretty good deal! Their tamago/egg was tasty and sweet - delicious. The rice itself could use a bit more flavor, but the rolls, on the other hand, were so deliciously flavorful! Overall, the sauces on all the rolls delivered excellent flavor. Not too heavy, salty, or spicy. Great balance and ratio of fish : rice : sauce. the ROLLS we got: - Magic Dragon - This is like a spicier dragon. Great combo of spicy and sweet. Yum! - Trio (from the special menu) - A lighter, all-protein option with no rice. Again, quality buttery salmon right here. - Dr. Woo's - yellowtail inside with albacore outside, great combo with spicy mayo - Volcano roll - spicy tuna topped with seared salmon - like when salmon gets slightly seared, it absolutely is the best! All the rolls were great, but the Magic Dragon and Volcano Roll were my favorites because their flavor profiles were chefs kiss. The staff was incredibly nice and generous. This local establishment has been a staple here for years! Their menu is massive, and while the names of the rolls could be more straightforward, their website has pictures, which helps! Sushi Garden does a great job. I can't speak to the authenticity of their menu items, but they hit the spot for me. Fish tasted fresh and high quality. They had something for everyone on the menu, and our order was brought out as it was ready -- perfectly timed to our finishing the last plate. I ordered take out from here once. Was excited after reading the reviews. But when I got there the hostess told me it wasn't ready and there was a take out order sitting on the shelf. 20 minutes later she found out the order sitting on the shelf was mine after reading the ticket which she could have done from the start. It was my first time here and I would definitely come back whenever I'm in the area! My friends and I ordered and got all of our food within 10 minutes. We each got the miso soup and shared the white dragon roll, samurai spirit roll, and tiger eye roll. My favorite roll would have to be the samurai spirit roll. My first time here and I am now a huge fan and can't wait to come back. I had heard many positive reviews and never knew where this place was. It's sort of tucked away if you've never been and has its own sweet little ambiance. I felt like I wasn't in Santa Cruz but rather in a vacation like setting. Not great. A lot of other sushi places that I think are better in price and in quality in town. While service was nice enough here, with the waitress taking our drink order fairly soon after we sat down, I just think that the prices and quality of food are not great here. I originally wanted to order just the simple standard order of spicy tuna roll, but at this place it's $11 for just spicy tuna with solely cucumber, which is waaaaayyyy too pricey for such a simple roll IMHO. Usually it's like $8 bucks or less and it includes some masago on top for such a basic roll. Instead, it's the price of the usually more expensive rolls on the menu, plus the more expensive rolls are even more expensive. I ended up getting a bryant's birdie with all tuna instead of salmon, which was $17 for the roll (yikes). It was okay, but honestly very tasteless, even with soy sauce. It needed some sort of sauce to make it taste better, maybe some unagi sauce or something? Either way, honestly, I probz won't be back to visit this spot. A friend and I were in town staying near the Village. We googled spots in walking distance, Sushi Garden had the highest rating in walking distance so off we went. Great location tucked in the middle of a set of office buildings. Koi pond and outdoor seating as well as plenty of indoor seating. They have a tablet you can sign in to get on the wait list. We didn't need to do this as we were seated immedately. We asked for water, our server was attentive and efficient. We started with edamae, we asked if it could be spicy and they had a seasoning to add, almost gave it a tajin flare. We ordered the California roll and a Dynamite roll. Both rolls had good flavor, we enjoyed both of them. We also ordered baby shrimp sticks. We were thinking it was more of a tempura style, but when it came out looking at us, we giggled and attempted to pull apart the pieces we didn't want. The body of the stick was good, but we are not fans of eating the crispy legs and head. But that was our fault for not fully reading the description. Our waters were refilled and our service was great. For 2 rolls, 2 appetizers, we settled up at $40 bucks. Happy with our experience and worth the walk. read more

Grabbed sushi on the way back from camping and this place was delicious! It's within a business park, but has a cute outdoor zen like setting with a koi pond. We got their right at opening and there was already a couple tables being seated for a Sunday early afternoon. One of the things rhat caught my eye was they had escolar (super white tuna)! Not every sushi spot has this, so I had go jump on it. I got the Geisha roll and escolar nigiri, as well as the chef gone wild roll. My bf got their salmon kama, baked mussels, and full moon roll. such a hidden gem! we got 2 husband and wife rolls and they were like nothing i've ever tasted before. the fish was so fresh and the seaweed provided so much flavor. Amazing experience! Came here for dinner one night with my dad and two babies. Parking is so easy. Lots to choose. The restaurant is a little hidden, but just follow the signs. Service was great and sushi came out quickly. We got hot green tea to drink and gyoza to start. We did the fried vegetable gyoza. So much flavor and the sauce obviously goes perfect. I also got the miso soup- you really can't go wrong! We did several rolls for us two. My absolute favorite is La Selva Beach. We ended up ordering one extra of this roll. The small nuts inside this roll just make it. It gives such good texture and compliments the flavors so well. It's a must try! I also got an avocado roll for my daughter-she loved it. We also got Bryant's birdie. Such a fresh roll and the mango did not overpower the roll, it enhances it! We also ordered the white dragon. This roll has such a good combination of albacore and spicy tuna. I am not a green onion fan and the green onion ties the roll together. Last we got the ebi carnival. I love love love this spot. Been here a couple times and I need to go back every time I'm visiting. For starters, love the koi pond. It spruces up the whole plaza. Secondly, prices are decent for some fresh fish. I prefer nigiri over rolls but rolls are good too. The sushi chefs make everything so pretty... you don't want to eat it and destroy it. Honestly one of my favorite spots for sushi in santa cruz. The love boat has some great quality sushi and for the price its super worth it. The uni here is super fresh, as well as the amaebi. I got a Golden California, the description from the menu just made the roll sound really confusing, I ended up imagining a different item than what I got. A Golden California is just a california roll that's deep fried with some sauce on top, and mine didn't even come with avocado or the avocado in it was exceptionally small to the point of being nonexistent. I couldn't really taste much besides a cheap bit of crab with fried shrimp. I had a bit of my friend got the Bryan's Birdie which had a little more flavor in it, but not by much. The main source of offence I took was from the Calamari Squid Rings, which besides being expensive had absolutely no flavor, was greasy, and was paired with some strange spicy spicy "sauce" that seemed out of place in my appetizer. The only place that I know of that serves authentic soba. Most is a mix of some flower and buckwheat. Authentic soba can only be found in Japan, and this restaurant imports it or brings it from Japan. The soba meal is very satisfying because it comes with a salad and vegetable tempura. The tempura was crispy, just as it should be. That's also hard to achieve in most Japanese restaurants. Danny, one of the sushi chefs is friendly and kind. Came for outdoor dining on a Tuesday evening. There was no wait which was great. Our server was really nice. The outdoor space was very aesthetic and the heat lamp was quite warm which is always nice with outdoor dining. We shared the La Selva roll and ombo tempura appetizer. My pal got the Unagi and Tamago Nigiri and I had a tuna hand roll. Everything was good. The tempura was super crisp and fresh. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because while it was really good and quite fresh, I think there is some room for a little extra freshness and tastiness.
