After driving for 5 hours, we were hungry and wanted to relax and enjoy some good food and drinks near our hotel. When you walk in the decor is nice, it is a seat yourself type of place--then we saw the tables and floors were dirty. There were empty food containers on some of the booths, like someone forgot to store them away before the restaurant opened. The employees walk around like they hate their job. The man who served us was very condescending and rude, when we asked questions about the menu. We ordered a beer, he brought us a cup of salsa for the table ..No chips, no plates. Then there's the food, simply awful! Nothing about this place is Mexican. Save your money, and go somewhere else! read more

The ambience was great. This place is very nicely decorated. Services was good also. It was not crowded with too many other patrons so our food and drinks were brought out to us in record time. My only critique is that the food needs more seasoning. I was hoping to taste the authentic Mexican flavors that I love. Other than that, I appreciate that I was able to add shrimp to my quesadilla since that item was not on the menu. read more

Absolutely WRETCHED. Anywhere that charges for chips and salsa is a red flag, but this place charges by the little cupful of salsa!! A couple tablespoons is all you get after paying $6 for chips and salsa! I don't want to throw the waitress under the bus, but even she confessed that she thought their salsa charges were outrageous; she said Bandito's is the only restaurant around that charges like that. The meat was flavorless--the shredded beef was exactly like Mississippi pot roast that anybody could make in a crock pot. You can get a better hard shell taco at Taco Bell. The beans and rice were fine but not super flavorful, either. I hate to be so hard on a local restaurant, but I just left feeling scammed. There are so many good reviews on this place, especially on Google, but I'm a little suspicious that some of them might be fake. Either that or people get drunk on the margaritas and leave a review while they still have the beer goggles on. I've eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life--I've lived in Chicago, I've helped cook in Mexican kitchens, I've even traveled to Mexico--and this is NOT authentic to any region. Stay away!! read more

We have been coming here for decades. It is a fresh, unique take on California-style Mexican food, featuring the best salsa you will find in the Ann Arbor region. I stopped by Bandito's for lunch on Friday around 1 PM with a friend. It was not very busy and we were told we could where we liked. The wait staff was quick but could have been a bit friendlier. The waitress was very nice but most of the time we were serviced by a man. He was rather short with responses and nearly dropped my friend's plate in front of her when he brought our food from how quickly he was moving, and then departed the table immediately afterwards. Every interaction with the male waiter felt rushed. The restaurant itself was very clean and lots of natural light. A very nice place to grab lunch or dinner with friends and family. The food was good. Would give a 5/5 if it were not for the demeanor of the waiter. read more

Decent service could not overcome mediocre food that bears little resemblance to Mexican cuisine

I visited for lunch, and had a great experience. The service was attentive and fast. The salsa was fresh and flavorful, and my chicken burrito was delicious! There was a small, but yummy, hot sauce selection as well, to add a little kick, if you like kick. (I do!) The natural light coming in from the big windows really made the place feel light and airy. I left full, and had a nice chat with someone who may have been the owner. I will be coming back for lunchtime deliciousness in the future! read more

Super cute spot with lots of charming ethnic decor. It was nearly empty when I visited. Food was average and took a while, but prices were fair. Nice vibe, just needs a bit more energy and quicker service. read more

Not worth it for a long wait. Came on a Friday night on a busy weekend. I placed an order online for pickup at 9PM hoping it would be ready within 15 minutes which was our drive time there. Wait time: We were given a wait time of 35 minutes on the online app. We got there about 10-15 minutes after placing the order, and I asked if there's any way we could expedite the order. The wait staff was not sympathetic. It's okay if it can't be faster but it would be nice to be kind still. And it ENDED UP TAKING 45 minutes, so close to 10PM (their closing time) for the food to come out and we had to proactively ask for it. From what I could tell, there was a lot of front house staff but not enough people in the kitchen. Taste: Maybe it's because I am from California but the food just wasn't that impressive. The taco was super dry and most of the fiesta combo was not flavorful. The beef burrito was decent but nothing to come back for. Chips and salsa were good to snack on. Even though the taste wasn't that good, it was pretty salty and I had to drink lots of water later that night. Positives: Portions were big. Parking was plentiful. Looks like they do online pickup and also deliver via DoorDash (Just don't expect your order to be quick) read more

This place is yuck. The restaurant was completely empty when we walked in, and that should have been our first warning. The nachos came out with cold chips and shredded cheese that wasn't even melted. The salsa tasted like it came straight from a store-bought jar, nothing fresh about it. The enchiladas were just as bad. The cheese inside was cold and clumpy. Nothing was hot, nothing had flavor. The food was bland and forgettable. When we told the manager, he got defensive instead of apologizing. He just said, "Fine, pay at the register," like we were the problem. Then he actually tried to argue that the cheese was real cheese and should be melted. What does that even mean? This place is a mess from top to bottom. Don't believe the social media videos. Save your time, your taste buds, and your money. read more

I'm not sure it's "ok" to post my review yet, as Yelp removed my last one. Maybe I should've kept my receipt to post? Anyway, food was terrible with no spice or taste. Service was awesome. Take a look at the 5 star reviews that only have 1 review before going. You'll be disappointed. read more

I had been wanting to try this since I heard that all their meat is halal. I went here for dinner with a friend and was so surprised by the kind and thoughtful service! I couldn't decide what meat to get so I got three crunchy tacos one with shredded chicken, one with ground beef and one with pulled beef. We also got the chips and salsa. It was soo tasty and fresh! All were delicious but the pulled beef was PHENOMENAL! The food was so delicious and the vibes were nice. I will most definitely be eating here again! read more

Came to Banditos Fresh Mex and it blew me away! First off, they serve halal meat, which for me is a huge plus -- finally a place with Mexican flavors and halal options in Ann Arbor. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and you could tell the ingredients are high quality. I had the burrito and some nachos and enchiladas, which were flavorful without being overpowering. The chips & salsa were fresh and crispy, and their service was super friendly -- staff was attentive but not over the top. The atmosphere is colorful, great for family dinner or a chill night out with friends. read more

My wife and I met up with one of our sons at Bandito's for dinner this evening at about 5pm. We were welcomed and seated immediately. We ordered drinks, which came quickly as we looked at the menu. As soon as the drinks came, we placed our order. We started with a round of chips and salsa. I did not time how long it took, but the food came before we could finish the chips (which is a good thing, because I am liable to stuff myself with chips instead of the main course). I split a beef chimichanga with my wife, and that was plenty for us. Our son had a beef burrito. All three of us found the food tasty and satisfying. We were served mostly by two people whom I believe were the owners. They were very attentive to our needs. I have always enjoyed coming to this place since they arrived at this location some years ago. They are basically the only Mexican-style restaurant near where we live. The restaurant is always clean, comfortable, and decorated in a colorful way. read more

Really good food! Happy to come back anytime I'm in town. KP the owner came by and made sure we were taken care of.

Came to Bandito's Fresh Mex and had a really great experience. What stood out right away was how fresh everything tasted and the generous portion sizes. I also loved that they offer halal options, which is such a plus and not easy to find. I got a big stuffed burrito and the chicken quesadilla. The burrito was packed and filling, and the quesadillas were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of cheese and chicken. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere is colorful and fun, making it a great spot for a casual dinner with friends or a family outing. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out and will for sure be back. read more

I have been a patron of Bandito's for more than thirty years, from their original place to their current location. It is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Ann Arbor, and I always go out of my way to visit any time I am passing through the area. Stopped by after college football game for dinner. Inside is nicely decorated and spacious. Allowed to seat yourself after being handed menus. Ordered queso and it came out pretty quick. That's about all the nice things I have to say. My son ordered Baja chimichanga with beef and chicken. It looked delicious coming out with beans that had cheese mixed in and rice. Unfortunately, there was zero flavor on the meat. I ordered two soft tacos that were bland. The food was so flavorless it looked like I didn't try anything. While the two dinners were reasonably priced, feels like I should have just sent it back for something else. . . that would have taken another 20+ minutes. read more

Everyone has their flavor, but I don't think there's a flavor in this place that isn't perfection. Burrito - tender meat, finished with fresh toppings, and a fresh soft tortilla that melts in your mouth. Quesadilla - steak was absolutely tender cut, and flavorful, perfectly cooked with the quesadilla. Strawberry Margarita was amazing. Modelo on draft is like sipping heaven in a glass. From the atmosphere, and creatively decorated space, I really really enjoyed this place. The service felt like you were at your friends house just eating good food, and having a drink. I came here for my birthday, and it was an absolute hit. Definitely going to return to try more of their menu, and what they have to offer. Extremely satisfied. read more

Bandito is a unique, full of personality restaurant that deserves more recognition than the hidden behind a building location allows. I live in Southern California where Mexican restaurants are on every corner, and I've never experienced a restaurant quite like this one. The décor is very unique and quite professionally done. The food is nicely prepared and by most standards not spicy. Ask for a side of jalapeños if you want more heat. Note that this is an owner-operated establishment, not a corporate restaurant. This makes for a more unique experience in culinary, personal interaction, and décor areas. Engage the owner to experience his unique personality and give your meal experience more depth. read more
