Pizza Express - GF Pollo American

Pizza Express

Pizza Express tends to be my go-to chain for gluten-free pizza in the UK, they're probably one of…read morethe best compared to the other chains at least, and their Harrogate location, located on Albert Street in the town centre is no exception. I used their delivery service on this occasion, with the food delivered by UberEATS. I was impressed by their selection of "Delivery Exclusive" pizzas, some of them sounded better than the regular menu - which made me surprised they wouldn't just put them on there in the first place! Some of the prices on Uber EATS do tend to be a little more than dining in, which can make it more expensive with Uber's own fees, and the fact you're unable to use Pizza Express Rewards, but ultimately you're paying for the comfort and convenience of delivery and enjoying the food at home, or like me in a nearby hotel. I opted for a gluten-free Pollo American pizza, which was listed as "Chicken, Pepperoni, tomato with garlic, red onions, mozzarella and topped with parsley.", while the pizza wasn't fully hot, despite being delivered in good time, it was still warm and tasted good, the flavours on the pizza were nice, and I liked the combination of pepperoni and chicken, together with the garlic and red onions. It would have been easier for me if they had cut my pizza fully, the pizza was sliced but with it still being stuck together, I had to get some cutlery from my hotel to finish the job. I also ordered a portion of gluten-free dough balls, which was served with a generous portion of garlic butter on the side, which it certainly needed to make them edible, but I did enjoy these too. PRO TIP: If you're dining in, be sure to download and use the Pizza Express app, the rewards available are great and depending on your tier status you can get a bunch of free stuff including dough balls, a soft drink, large bottled water and a Romana pizza upgrade. 4* - A pretty good shout for pizza in the town centre, whether you're dining in or having it delivered, although for the best possible prices, temperature and service, I would recommend the former.

Pizza? Really? C'mon! We're visiting from America and we want to eat English pizza? Well, alright,…read morebut it had better be something halfway decent. Hey, this place is really nice inside. Nice hubbub. Plenty of space between tables. Lots of kids and families. Huh. OK, so where's this waiter? Why do all waiters take FOREVER in England? Hustle, people, hustle! Alright, menus and drinks, good. Yes, all the kids would like the kid menu. Oh, hey!, that's a pretty good selection you've got going there. What, and they get a whole meal, a drink, and dessert for this price? With healthy options to make parents less guilty as they drink their house white? You're kidding. Well, things are looking up! ... Where's this waiter? ... OK, so let's have a selection of stuff. Kids will have generic pizza and pastas. We'll get a Pollo ad Astra pizza (the one with pepperdews, yeah?), Padana (goat cheese and caramelized onions are killer), a lasagne, and a Margherita pizza, please. ... Where's this food, then? ... Ey up! Alright! This looks pretty good! What's the obsession with not slicing the pizzas? Ah, what the heck, let's have a taste... Woah. I don't think we're in England anymore. But the wait staff are slow, so we must be! Niiice! Kids look satisfied. Adults are chatting busily, and munching like fiends. Yep, we have a very satisfied group! Excellent.

Thankfully Gianni's does, and we managed to book a table effortlessly online via Toptable. Set just outside the main centre of Harrogate, Gianni's is a bright modern restaurant, with a sizeable bar, and very friendly, efficient staff. We were shown to sizeable round table even though there was only two of us, this was a nice touch, sometimes two person tables can feel a little cramped. The whole restaurant had a spacious feel, and was equally suited to couples, groups or families with children: the restaurant was about half full on the night we visited. We chose the early bird menu, £12.95 apiece for two courses, a sufficiently varied selection of dishes. After we had chosen our mains, we were given a complimentary bread basket, with a varied of freshly baked breads, served with a black olive tapenade and a spicy tomato dip, a lovely start to the meal. For my main, I had a mushroom based ravioli with a creamy tomato sauce, topped off with parmesan, full of flavour and a big portion, washed down with a giant 660ml bottle of Peroni, perfect! My wife had the salmon accompanied by the ratatouille, one of the best pieces of salmon she had ever eaten. Obviously you have to have a dessert, its almost compulsory, I went for the mixed gelato, an unusual choice, but a great combination of interesting flavours. My wife had had the homemade profiteroles with a jug of warm chocolate sauce! Finished off the obligatory coffee, Gianni's was a chance find, but one which we will definitely visit again next time we visit Harrogate

I'm not sure if it was coincidence or not, but my husband and I felt like we were ignored while the other patrons were well cared for. Not sure if it's because we were tourists or what? The food was overall pretty good. The bread and olive tapenade in the beginning was delicious. My husband ordered the lasagna which I felt was lacking in flavor. I went with a classic margarita pizza which was delicious. The best part of the meal was the gelato we ordered for dessert. We got both the mint chocolate and coffee crunch flavors. So tasty!

Having perused the menu and always in search of decent burger, we booked a table effortlessly over the Internet. The restaurant itself is at the base of the Kimberley Hotel, with sport being shown on various TVs dotted around, but it never intruded on the dining area. The décor was modern, but comfortable, with various pieces of striking artwork adorning the walls. We were shown straight to our booth type table by a helpful member of staff, and whilst we chose from what is a copious menu, the friendly owner, proudly explained each one of the burgers. His enthusiasm for his creations was impressive. Burgers ranged from plain, to ones adorned with onion bhajis, and a 'New Yorker' which was a burger sandwiched between two pancakes dressed with maple syrup! So much choice; as well as burgers, they are famed locally for their pizzas too. You could even have a plate three smaller burgers or three smaller pizzas, if you struggled to make a firm choice. If you were feeling particularly ravenous you could have stacks of numerous burgers from 2 to 5, each having a name like 'Blackpool Tower' and 'The Shard'. Suffering from quite a heavy cold, which was annoyingly suppressing my appetite, I plumped for the 'Black Beauty', a burger with black pudding inside it, I know it sounds wrong, but it was delicious and the accompanying crisp fries and dressed salad, complemented the meal perfectly. What I did like about Burgers & More though, as well as the impressive service was that my wife, not being a huge burger fan, just fancied egg and chips, which although was not on the menu, was made for her without any fuss. I was very impressed and I will return to sample more of the menu, hopefully when my appetite has returned!

Wonderful staff that are quite attentive, but not intrusive. The pace at which each course was brought out was just right. They have a nice sized menu that gives plenty of options without it taking you a half-hour to look everything over. Though a cafe during the day, Caffè Marconi is a pizzeria at night. There is a decent wine selection, but beer lovers may feel rather limited by the 3 beers available. Only one of which is draft. Only one thing to say about the food itself: delicious! And a great value too. Our full three course meal for two, with drinks, and coffee with dessert came out well under £50. This place, unlike so many Italian restaurants I've been to in the UK, actually feels very Italian... not just a British take on what Italian is. This caffè/pizzeria is associated with Sasso, a formal Italian restaurant just a few doors down. Great place! Highly recommended!

The wonderful sight and smell of food, both savoury and sweet greets you as you enter, as do the smiles of the enthusiastic staff. Tables of various sizes and shapes, mean that all sizes of party can be catered for; there is also quite a sizeable area of outdoor seating, perfect for the summer. We managed to grab the last one on offer; as we had only just arrived in Harrogate, we really just wanted a snack, but the pizzas going past us on slate boards looked very tempting. We opted for a cappuccino and an americano, both served in a mug, and even came with a small plate to rest the teaspoon, a nice touch. The coffee was strong and flavoursome, and a good accompaniment for the food. We also ordered a Contadino sandwich: a warm sandwich with smoked chicken, olives, marinated vegetables, including artichoke, all dressed with basil mayonnaise, a wonderfully tasty sandwich, just right. I would have liked it with an accompanying salad though, it looked a bit sparse on the plate. Only a minor point though, the cappuccino cream filled pastry we had as a treat to finish the meal, was lovely.
