Set on the corner of Princes Square, down some steps is Caffe Marconi, a bright and modern cafe, and restaurant. The wonderful sight and smell of food, both savoury and sweet greets you as you enter, as do the smiles of the enthusiastic staff. Tables of various sizes and shapes, mean that all sizes of party can be catered for; there is also quite a sizeable area of outdoor seating, perfect for the summer. We managed to grab the last one on offer; as we had only just arrived in Harrogate, we really just wanted a snack, but the pizzas going past us on slate boards looked very tempting. We opted for a cappuccino and an americano, both served in a mug, and even came with a small plate to rest the teaspoon, a nice touch. The coffee was strong and flavoursome, and a good accompaniment for the food. We also ordered a Contadino sandwich: a warm sandwich with smoked chicken, olives, marinated vegetables, including artichoke, all dressed with basil mayonnaise, a wonderfully tasty sandwich, just right. I would have liked it with an accompanying salad though, it looked a bit sparse on the plate. Only a minor point though, the cappuccino cream filled pastry we had as a treat to finish the meal, was lovely. read more
