Coffee cup

Got the Matcha Latte ($5.95). I got it reduced sugar and it was not very sweet (which was what I wanted) so if you want some sweetness you would probably need to get the default sweetness option. Pros: - Good selection of espressos, cold drinks, and hot drinks. - Good vibe and ambience. Cons: - Busy although line moves fast. - Not enough staff at peak hours, so takes don't get cleaned promptly.

Great spot- coffee and tea. Espresso and matcha even! Have oat milk for those people that can't do dairy. Love my matcha latte and companion had flat white.

Having visited Balzac's every year I attend the Stratford Festival for as long as Balzac's has been open, it never disappoints! Great coffee beverages and many delicious goodies! And a very good feel, a place that locals and visitors alike enjoy. This year I had the good fortune of staying just upstairs from Balzac's and spent every single breakfast there. Oh, it's also nice that they have early opening hours - great for early risers like me! Of course, the staff is kind and helpful, too.

The long lines moved quickly.

We spotted the coffee shop in the early hours of the morning, as we took a stroll around town to get some exercise and more importantly, to catch up with each other. Even though it was early, people were already sipping a fresh brew on the patio or peering at the treats under glass domes on the counter. The striking coffee shop is long with a counter on one side and numerous seats on the other. I loved the pattern of the floor tiles, the tin ceiling, and wall moldings. In one corner, there were coffee and teas available for sale, alongside mugs and travel cups. Under those glass domes, I saw biscotti, numerous brownies (one vegan), stacks of cookies, carrot cake squares, and lemon and butter tarts. The glass case held piles of croissants, trays overflowing with scones, and a variety of muffins in fluted wrappers. There is also a refrigerated case built into the counter filled with drinks and pre-made sandwiches. We showed up at the wrong time to order though, a tour bus must have pulled up or was planning to pull out. There was a press of customers standing in line and over-ordering. The frenziness in the air seemed to suggest a schedule that needed to be respected. However, the line moved quickly and I was able to try a cheddar chive scone and a butter tart. Butter tart, I miss you so much! The scone was dense and flavorful, crumbling nicely to the touch. I loved the butter tart with the syrupy center, intense flavors, and morsels of raisins. The crust was nice as well. I had half of each. Even though I was on vacation, I was still being careful about carbs. The staff, perhaps, feeling the pressure of the lines, worked efficiently but soberly to get people out the door. I love people watching so we sat a while by the small marble bistro tables to see Stratford natives interact with the large tourist population.

This was the best latte I've had since moving back home from LA!! Vanilla oat milk latte, 10/10 recommend. Their vegan banana muffin was also delicious and they even warmed it up for me. Will be back!

I've been coming here for 25 years, ever since high school. This summer has a great set of baristas: Lana, Alana, and Shannon in particular. I usually go to meet one set of friends in the morning, and then another set of friends mid-morning. The baked goods are consistently well stocked now. While I have my regular choice, I sometimes feel like spurging and enjoy the oatmilk latte which gives a feeling like a warm oatmeal cookie right out of my Grandmother's kitchen, or the lavender latte which makes me feel like a French princess. I'll sometimes get one of the pink and purple flower sugar cookies so I can embrace my younger imagining-I-was-a-princess self. Both front and back patios are wondeful for an intimate discussion with friends.

Best turmeric latte we had, regular coffee was pretty good too, we also tried their cashew cookie, it was excellent!

Balzac's Coffee, Stratford, Ontario...the dessert selection

This is my first and favorite stop on my vacation to Stratford. The array of pastries and tartes on glass stands and the smooth coffee are my favorite indulgence when we stop here. We needed sweet snacks so I got a frosted brownie which was rich, dense, and fit my chocolate craving perfectly. The frosting was thin and smooth. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea which was strong and refreshing. Not the disgusting powdered kind at all. My Mom ordered a mocha which was not too sweet and delicious. Her carrot cake was light, had sweet spices, and a fluffy cream cheese frosting.

Loved this cafe! Ordered an oat milk latte with a vegan brownie and it was delicious I love the plant based food options as well as the plant based milk alternatives :)

The back of the store has loose leaf tea available for purchase. Tea is in large canisters and has a small canister in front of each if you wish to smell the tea. It reminds me of Teavana, which I wish still existed, and they have every tea you can think of like rooibos, puh er chai, oolong, tumeric tea, and flavored teas like chocolate ginger, orange ginger, and caramel apple to teas for good skin, weight loss, detox, and digestive health. Teas vary in price but generally are about $2 for 10 grams which probably makes a couple cups, $7 for 50 grams, $13.50 for 100 grams, and $33 for $250 grams (Canadian dollars). They have medium sized bags made up of most teas and they also have $2 smaller bags made up. You can also have any tea measured and bagged up for you. I bought a medium sized b of the orange ginger roobios tea and it was really good. It would be good mixed with a cinnamon chai. They also have ginger and framboise and maple hard candies and honey available for purchase at the register. The front of the store caries beautiful ceramic tea pots and mugs, plus accessories like tea cozies, steepers, etc. The back of the store carries their large selection of loose leaf teas that are well-organized in categories (black, green, white, rooibos, herbal, yerba mate). You are free to browse with a basket and smell all the lovely aromas (unlike places like David's where teas are kept behind the counter). The prices are reasonable at about $11 per 100g (slightly more for white teas). If you feel like a refreshing iced tea or a warm cup of tea to go, they also have that available.

Best ground coffee in Stratford, IMHO…read more And that is a potentially volatile statement - as Stratford is the birthplace of Balzac's Coffee (now in Toronto's Distillery District too - This is my Dad's go-to place as well (he loves the French Vanilla flavoured beans, ground to order at the counter. It's my favourite flavour too, but I have a soft spot for the chocolate raspberry beans too)! Owner Nancy (Hotson) is AWESOME! She's half the charm of this place - ask her anything! You'll see. She knows everything there is to know about all the products she sells - coffees, teas and cigars, for the most part. Extra tip: You can now order their coffee beans online! YAHOO!

I was shopping for my best friend's bachelor party. Being from the States, Cuban cigars are impossible to find here, so he was hoping to smoke some while we were in Stratford. I had called ahead and, sure enough, they had plenty. Walking in, it smelled more of coffee and I thought for a moment I was shopping for the wrong thing; perhaps I should have planned to pick up a pound of some coffee too! Nancy, the proprietor, was very friendly. Not knowing much about cigars, I didn't know what I wanted, but she was very happy to help me decide what kinds to get. She even suggested some of the inexpensive ($5 per) cigars, saying that for my money, those would probably be best. She suggested that Cubans are not necessarily better cigars, so I ended up with a mix of cigars, both in origin and price. For a dozen guys, not all of whom love cigars, this was invaluable. Next time I'm in Stratford, I will definitely drop in!

Showed them the standard online menu for the coffee culture chain and they had no idea what it was. Disappointed right from the start. One of the workers put the straw, uncovered in my drink with his bare hands at the top of it. And my chicken caeser wrap had soggy lettuce and burnt pieces of chicken in it. I planned on buying some lunch from them around noon but was told, before I'd even finished my tea, that they have an hour limit for seating. So I left around 11 and went to get lunch elsewhere. A limit of an hour or even two strikes me as ridiculously little time for such a large space--I understand that limit during peak hours but when there's zero competition for seats?--but if that's their policy, that's fine, I just wish I'd been warned when I ordered because I chose the place less for its menu and more for its suitability for long-term hanging out. Anyway this place is totally fine but if you're like me & seek out bigger spaces for the express purpose of spending more time there without getting in the way, this place isn't the one. Good cranberry orange muffin though.

As we walked in, I noticed the open concept and minimal decor and fell in love with it! We were greeted by both the employees working right away and I must say, the customer service was perhaps the best part of the entire experience. We were never rushed to order as they gave us plenty of time to debate the menu and when it came time to order, the gentleman was very thorough and helpful with the sizes of drinks, explaining the milk alternatives which are free of charge, order was clarified to ensure it was correct - all in all, you could feel he took his time to get things right for us. When our iced matcha beverages were handed off, he realized he didn't let us know they come Una's a default and there, he offered simple syrup or vanilla syrup of our choosing since we do prefer our matcha sweetened. After tasting, we told him two pumps wasn't sweet enough and he kindly added more syrup for us. I personally ordered the seasonal white chocolate matcha as a hot beverage which was tasty but a little too sweet - I would request for half sweet next time. I also got the sea salt chocolate chip cookie as I couldn't resist (it looked so good in the pastry display!) It turned out to be absolutely delicious - the edges being the best part. My mom said it paired well with her Americano which was made with their Heritage blend. Speaking of which, before my mom ordered her coffee, she was offered to try their brew before buying which was really helpful as it ended up being too acidic for her. The Heritage blend was much more her preference with the nutty notes. All in all, a nice place to study and/or grab a coffee and snack to go! I'd highly recommend anyone to visit if in the area.
