Baltimore Woods is a beautiful (and quiet) forest escape.
Found on 182 acres of countryside outside of Marcellus, Baltimore Woods offers several miles of trails through forest and field. From the main parking lot, all the paths traverse down a steep slope to where a brook gently cuts through the middle of the woodland. Take the bridge over the stream, and you're presented with a network of short trails that cut through various parts of the forest . On the opposite outermost edges of the nature center, you can walk along fallow farm fields. There are a couple overlooks, where benches let you rest while taking in the view of the surrounding scenery.
There's nothing particularly remarkable about the area, which is in fact its appeal: a simple walk in the woods. All the trails are well marked, and maps at the entrance help you navigate. It's not an aggressive hike by any means, but be ready for gently rolling hills. I hear the center hosts a lot of programs like night-time walks, wildlife demonstrations, and festivals.
For a Syracusan looking for a secluded wilderness walk to get away from it all, Baltimore Woods is a safe bet. read more
