This experience was amazing! I'll start from the beginning we were originally scheduled for a morning flight. Which was canceled due to wind. To some this may be annoying and while slightly inconvenient, safety is the most important thing when riding a ballon pulled by wind in the sky (lol). But we ended up doing a sunset flight instead and WOW! It was incredible!!! The set up was awesome to see, the take off was smooth and the views were out of this world! Since no one is in charge how fast winds can change he might have you rescheduled and I was good with knowing safety comes first. My wife and I flew with our pilot Jay of Balloon Depot last night for our 10-year anniversary. It was our third attempt to fly; the first attempt was cancelled due to rain and the second due to high winds. However, last night was perfect. The night begins by calling Balloon Depot to check on the weather. They constantly check detailed weather reports in the area to make sure the wind speed and direction are just right. If the conditions are right, you'll get the "go for launch" and can start making your way to their home base across from the airport in Snohomish, WA. When you arrive, check in at the office, sign the paperwork, and make your payment. Once the formalities are out of the way, make yourself at home while the crew prepares for the flight. Pet the cat or the dog or check out the gazebo. Meanwhile, the pilots and crew will launch test balloons to check the wind. Based on the results of the tests, they'll choose a launch site. After a brief greeting, you'll board the shuttle vans and head to the launch site. You'll get to know a little more about your pilot, Jay, and he'll get to know a little more about you. At the launch site, you can get first-hand experience in prepping the basket and balloon. Once the balloon is full, Jay will give some flight instructions before everyone climbs into the basket. And then you're off! Every flight is different. During our flight, we took off and stayed low at first, looking out over some fields of cows, some marshes, sunflower patches, and a river. We were approaching a mountain and needed a bit of direction change, so we rose up high above the mountain. Everything about the way the hot air balloon flies is so smooth and gentle. Jay will communicate with other pilots in the area and determine the best route and possible landing zones. All you have to do is enjoy the sights. We were able to see all the way to Mt. Baker in the north, Mt. Rainier in the south, and Seattle and Puget Sound in the west. What great views! You get all this AND you get to watch the sun set into Puget Sound at the same time. Once you land, you can offer to help Jay pack up the balloon before heading back to the office in the shuttle van. Then, wind down the evening in the gazebo with Jay, another pilot Bob, and the other passengers while you enjoy a Champagne toast, cheese and crackers, homemade shrimp dip, and tons of great hot air ballooning stories. Flying with Balloon Depot was a perfect choice. Our pilot Jay, and his partner Bob, were both incredibly knowledgeable about the history of ballooning, as well as the intricate science and art of studying the wind. They work so hard to ensure that you get the best possible experience. And because conditions can change at the last minute, sometimes that means having to reschedule. Just keep it in the back of your mind that you may not get to fly on your scheduled date. But if Balloon Depot cancels your flight, they had a very good reason, and all you need to do is reschedule for another day. They are very accommodating and will do everything they can to get you on another flight and make sure you have the best time possible. read more

I went on a balloon ride Mid-August expecting a neat experience floating high above the ground for an hour or so BUT was blown away!! Jay not only gave us the high view but also dropped the balloon low where we skimmed the bottom of the basket on the river and also was able to grab leaves from the tree tops. it was so much more interactive and was impressed with the whole experience....Highly recommend it! read more

Jay and his team were wonderful! very informative and interactive with the passengers. You could help as much or as little as you wanted to. We had a champagne toast after the flight and his office staff made the most amazing apple brown sugar crumble cake for us afterwards. Overall I found the experience with this company somewhat disappointing. The actual balloon ride was good fun and the pilot,Jay, was nice and chatty. We weren't too cramped in the basket and of course the views were amazing. The reason I knocked off two stars was that it seemed like Jay was missing part of his crew. He asked the riders to help pull out the balloon from his trailer, help fill it, help position the basket and generally do a surprising amount of labor for an experience we paid upwards of $150 per person for. Then when we landed, a maneuver he performed very skillfully, he once again rallied the riders to help dissemble the balloon and load it all up. I generally found it extremely unprofessional to rely on your customers to set up and take down your equipment. And it wasn't like "this will be a fun way to teach people about balloons and how they work while we set it up". It was much more of a "well we need the manpower to move heavy things and you're all here so you better put your back in to it". read more
