If I could award 10 stars I would! This is an absolute top notch fishing resort. Everything about it is well thought out and done exceptionally well. The accommodations are perfect for a fishing resort. They are clean, comfortable and include all the essentials you need for your stay. The grounds are also well maintained and in great shape. The staff is friendly, and efficient, willing to help with anything you need. The boats are very well maintained, clean and comfortable.. The fishing guides are all top notch! The are extremely knowledgeable , very friendly and helpful. They insure that everyone is well taken care of and happy. They try to insure that enough fish are caught so that everyone goes home with their limit. I believe the meal plan is the best way to enjoy your time. No cooking or cleaning and the meals served are terrific! Breakfast starts with a breakfast buffet that has all of the breakfast food you can want, and all very tasty. Lunch on the boat includes either a shore lunch made from the fish you just caught, or sandwiches on the boat which are fresh, generous in size and very tasty. All lunches also include some sort of home baked goody for dessert . For dinner, check out their on line menu. You can have everything for sandwiches to steaks as part of the package. I have not eaten this well in quite awhile. The restaurant staff is also very friendly, accommodating and efficient. I can't wait to return again!!! read more

Have been here a few times. Cabins are decent. But went to dinner here tonight - one of the worst meals ever. Ordered Walleye. Extremely soggy - bland - like someone put it a microwave. Was not happy with the response from management either. Won't be back anymore. read more

I am writing this about the restaurant only. I come here a couple times a year (spring and fall) for lunch and dinners for several years now. The menu has not changed in the years I have been coming here. They have a couple vegetarian options (grilled cheese on kids menu, cheese pizza) and no vegan options. The salad bar is lackluster; my vegetarian friend took one look and said "Uh no thanks" which was my thought too when I looked at it previously. The dining room and bar areas are nice and clean, bathrooms are clean and you can see into the kitchen which also looks clean. The food is good, not amazing. The service in the bar and dining room is great and friendly. The views are great from the bar and dining room looking at the Rainy River. They have a nice patio to enjoy when the weather and bugs are cooperating. read more

Great people. Beautiful part of the planet. Everyone was thoughtful and helpful. Fishing guides deserve tips and I didn't notice others giving these. Restaurant is decent. Convenient and I'd say excellent if you want something easy. But you can choose to cook for yourself or hit other restaurants in the area and in Baudette. Our goal was a relaxing weekend with fishing and we definitely got that. Thank you! read more

Won't be back. Treated awful by one of the waitresses for simply asking to check on our food (mind you it had been 30 minutes already). Only seen us once for initial ordering, had to get our second round of drinks ourselves from the bar. Proceeds to toss our food down for us, same attitude with the receipt. Brutal. read more

Six experiences since 2011, five summer and one winter. All were fantastic, except maybe the -30 degree winter one. Full disclosure: I hate winter anyway but wanted to experience winter fishing at least once ! Our guides were always cheery and pleasant, even when they would have to keep replacing the many jigs we kept losing in the rocks. Shore luches were always a necessity. Dining room meals were always great, the portions hearty, and staff friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, fish are not guaranteed, but a great time is! Whenever I hear of someone headed to LOTW for fishing, I try to steer them to Ballard's. Fish on! read more

My wife and I have fished LOTW many times and have always stayed at Ballard's Resort because their facilities are very clean and the staff extremely friendly. The fishing guides work hard to put you on fish and try to make your fishing experience enjoyable. I once asked our guide what brought him to Ballard's and he simply said "if you want to work for the best, work at Ballard's"! I think of that comment often and even though I have never been employed by Ballard's, I recognize many of the staff from year to year which speaks highly of how they all work together. We consider Ballard's on of our favorite trips and look forward to each year's fishing adventure. Keep up the good work, Ron & Sue Stalder Davenport, IA read more

Great time , great staff, and great food. Fishing guide (Mer)) got us on fish all 3 days with a few slot fish.

My brothers and I had a great time. We had tree guides in three days, and all were great. Plenty of fish, good food. We will go back.

I've always enjoyed my time at Ballard's. It's fun to catch fish (almost guaranteed). eat good, sleep in a comfortable cabin and bed and be around some good folks! I'm planning a trip for next spring. read more

Family owned business that can make two people feel special or a group of 20. Great fishing, accommodations that are clean and comfortable. Best asset the resort has is their people. Friendly lodge workers, guides that are smart, savvy and entertaining and owners that mingle with their guests and locals. read more

Wow! Came here for a father-son fishing trip (as a 13th birthday present for my son). This place came highly recommended from some friends. Those recommendations were stellar and yet didn't do proper justice. The folks working here are incredible. Friendly and accommodating. Truly, felt like we knew our guide and server all our lives. Such wonderful people. The food at the restaurant was exceptional and the fishing, as well as the memories even better. Thank you, Shane (our guide) and all the staff! What a memorable and amazing experience! read more

AMAZING place. Excellent fishing! Guides! Customer service! Restaurant ! We drove 2000 miles and were absolutely Thrilled! The fishing huts were clean and warm. The cabins tidy, clean and cute! The staff, especially Linda, were so helpful. The chef prepared the fish we actually caught for a minimal fee so we had ribeye and sauger for dinner. They grilled half the sauger and cooked the other in a Cajun spice. Excellent all the way around right down to the sack lunches we bought. read more

Always good food and great service. My aunt loves the pork loin sandwich. We come all the way from Texas to visit family in LOW county and Ballards is a must visit spot. Try the smoked walleye. It was great but needed salt. The view is amazing and the drinks well made. read more

I brought friends here for several day fishing trip, so had a chance to eat several times in the restaurant. Really good food items here and good service. Surely one of the better food stops in the area. In house made dessert items too, so a big plus for them. Thanks folks. Well done. read more

We went there to dine. Food was decent, beer selection was good. I had a broiled Walleye and a Sam Adams Winterlager. Maybe a little bit overpriced, but a place ok to go in this area. read more

My son, father and I had the time of our lives at Ballard's Resort. We signed up for the all inclusive package which worked perfectly for us. We flew in from Denver on a Sunday (June 12, 2011) and returned home on Friday (June 17, 2011). They picked us up at the airport and even took us back to the airport when it was time to go home. There is nothing bad to say about Ballard's Resort. The fishing was OUTSTANDING!!!! The guides were GREAT!!!! The food was DELICIOUS!!!! The cabin was AWESOME!!!! We recomended Ballard's to some friends ours that will be up there in September. We will definitely be back. Take advantage of this place if you ever have the chance. You won't be disappointed. read more
