Almost 15 years ago, my then-boyfriend and I took a big ole American roadtrip. We camped out one night in MN in some state park in the middle. I do not have a record of where we actually stayed, but don't regret the missing knowledge too much, since we pitched our tent after nightfall and left at the crack of dawn. I thought that we *may* get back to a MN state park eventually, but wasn't sure.
Fast forward. My now-husband and I actually by some weird turn of events actually live in MN. We become MPR members (but of course), get our state parks annual pass, and plot an official camping trip. Well, hubby did. And for some really obscure reason, he picked this park. His thinking was a lake called "Lake of the Woods" must be pretty cool.

I am still game enough to sleep on hard ground in a tent in the rain; I have no qualms about getting dirty and staying dirty for a stretch. I've just moved beyond pit toilets and scary shower facilities. I also couldn't shake the feeling that the only other campers there were some fugitives on the run.
Next trip, I'm picking. And Interstate/Tettegouche/CR Magney, watch out! read more
