London's number 88 bus, operated by London General who are a subsidy of the London Go ahead group,…read morethe largest provider of buses in London and soon to be largest in Greater Manchester, where I live following their purchase of First in the region. I've never thought of reviewing a bus route before, but after finding multiple buses including this one in Yelp after trying to search for London General, I feel it is highly appropriate due to the awful level of serve I received on my final day in the city, as I attempted to get to London Euston from Piccadilly, wanting to avoid the tube as I knew the bus would take the same amount of time (probably working out quicker avoiding getting to the platform on the tube which often can be frustrating and time-consuming). I attempted to board the bus as normal, but I noticed an issue with the front of the bus only displaying Oxford Circus, I hoped this was a mistake only to find out the bus would terminate there, which ended up just outside Apple's flagship, awesome Regent Street branch, just over a miles walk away. I was told there was another 88 service behind to take me on for the rest of my journey. I waited... only for the next bus to also terminate at the same location, after watching the next 88 bus also terminate at Apple on Regent Street, I again as well as others who were waiting began confused, asking the driver to get the same method. After the next bus, we were finally made aware by a non-driver about a demonstration. I understand London General and the Number 88 bus can't do anything to stop demonstrations and protests but surely keeping customers informed rather than lying to them, giving them false hope and re-assurance just to "shut them up" and "get them off the bus" is wrong and disgusting behaviour, showing abysmal customer service which I'd even go as far to say is amongst the worst I've received from a bus company, and that says a lot considering I have had to deal with First Manchester back home for many years, who don't even acknowledge my complaints anymore. 1*

Here are its Skillstats @ Double-decker @ Clapham to Camden @ Night bus capabilities @ Landmark stops: Trafalgar, Picadilly, Oxford Circus @ Minimal cellphone music on loudspeaker events It was always my favourite bus, the one I trusted for North to South and South to North transit. There for me 24 hours a day, dropping me near pals at one end and just minutes from my bed at the other. So it should be a shoe-in for 5 stars, right? Nope.... The one thing you need for the perfect 5 star bus is trust that in Nightbus mode that you'll survive even if you fall asleep. Getting on plastered at 2am at its start in Camden by The Egg this was the assumption I made, that if I did fail and fall asleep, that I would still be woken at the terminus in Clapham and could roll out and crawl to my bed. So why the hell did I next wake up at 4.45am on a bus coming into Harrow from Watford? I've still never figured this one out. Answers on a postcard please!

April 27th 2025. During our first trip to London we took…read moreUber from Heathrow airport to our hotel at Hilton West end. Trip cost about the equivalent of $75. Second trip to London we took the London underground from Heathrow to Holborn all along the Piccadilly line without transferring. 23 stops along the line but we we were seated the entire time carrying day packs and one carry-on luggage each.. The cost was the equivalent of $7 per person. If you are coming from Heathrow airport during rush hour you can take the Heathrow Express directly from the airport too Paddington station. For two people this would be about the same Fare as Uber. And you would still have to get from Paddington station to your central London hotel. In our case we could have taken the Elizabeth Express from Heathrow airport to Tottenham Court road station and walked the mile to our hotel near Holborn underground station. The fair would have been about double that of the London underground. Both of the Heathrow Express and Elizabeth line are more luggage friendly. Compared to the London underground. The London underground has contactless payment. You simply scan your credit card on entry and scan the same credit card on exit. Seats seats are cloth with armrest. People with oversized luggage can put your luggage near the doors in special areas. is not advised during peak hours was standing room only. Unlike New York City most London stations have working escalators making it possible, but not easy, to carry luggage on the trains. Make sure you put your luggage on its side. One person put his luggage on his wheels in the luggage area but the luggage rolled out the entrance on its own at the next stop.

London Underground is certainly cheaper than a taxi or uber, and we had no problems finding room on the trains with our luggage (two people, each with a carry on). Announcements remind you to "mind the gap", and the stations we visited were staffed and welcoming. One even had an inspirational quote up. As expected, some stations are more modern than others since they are utilized more. I loved that I could tap my credit card to get through the gates onto the train, rather than buying a physical card or downloading an app. I wish the DC Metro used this system.

This is by far the most convenient option from London proper to Heathrow Airport, but you'll pay for that convenience. Where you could reach the airport via a local train for much less, shell out the 20 - 25 pounds per person and you can ride on a direct train with zero stops. The train runs nonstop from Paddington Station, which is easily accessible by Tube. It leaves roughly every 15 to 30 minutes, but there are frequently closures and delays so make sure you allow plenty of time for your journey. In the 4 times I've used this service, twice it's been cancelled and I had to take the regular local train, so be aware. The train stops at Heathrow but the walk from the station to the terminal is quite far (allow at least 20 minutes, and even longer if you are slow or have a ton of bags). Also make SURE that you keep your ticket out because you have to scan in AND out once you reach LHR station. The train itself is nothing fancy, but they have free wi-fi and luggage racks for the short journey. The seats are comfy enough. They often run specials, so make sure you check our their website. Sometimes there are deals if you buy group tickets and it's cheaper if you purchase your tickets far in advance. This is the easiest option to get from the city to LHR by a mile.
