On both the District (green) and Circle (yellow) lines, this station is in Zone 1, sandwiched between the busy Victoria station and South Kensington.
The station is located on Sloane Square itself, which is great for Hugo Boss, Gieves & Hawkes, an enormous Peter Jones, various bars and within easy walking distance of most of the better-known shops on the Kings Road. Kings Road, however, goes on for miles, so you may be best to check first if you're visiting something specific.
The station dates back many years and used to have a great glass roof before it was destroyed during World War One. Dark green tiles make the station look quite dark, especially with the rather faded lighting. There are escalators to get from platform level to street level, but none going down, with a large number of steps (something to consider if you've got a pram, wheelchair or lots of shopping from Peter Jones). I've thought for years that this is a prime station for modernisation, but it hasn't happened yet.
One important note, the road outside the station is now semi pedestrianised, a crazy system where shoppers think there's no cars allowed and where cars think they're driving on a road. A mad system that's soon going to lead to an accident. Don't say you haven't been warned! read more
