In a way this is simply another London Underground station, though it doesn't interchange with any other lines. No doubt this is probably because it really exists only to service an area that, without the station, would be pretty underserviced. However, a short walk from the station is the Tate Britain, and there are some nice pubs around here as well. read more
Hiding in Westminster and serving only the Victoria Line, Pimlico is in Travelcard Zone 1. While some of the entrances feature ramps down almost to the ticket concourse, there are still steps. And an escalator down from the ticket concourse to the platform level.
It is between Victoria and Vauxhall stations and has the usual ticket barricades and Oyster readers.
The station seems to show it's age and doesn't appear to have been modernized much since it was opened in the 1970's. Rather than the usual roundels, the ones in the stations are backlit. Weird. read more
As many have mentioned it's on the Victoria line and there is really only one train that comes here. I did like that there was a guard/attendant at the station if you have any problems figuring out the kiosk or which direction you should exit the station. It was kind of our first time using the Oystercard and the lady that was in the station was very quick to give us direction. There really isn't much else to this station though unlike some of the bigger stations.
I will say it did kind of suck a little that there are only stairs in this station. No elevator (lift) or wheelchair ramp. I think there are specific stations around London that are handicap accessible, but when you have luggage or a hefty bag, you better be in shape to heave not only your body but also your bag up the stairs to get out to the main street. read more
My go to Tube Station while in London for a week.
MIND THE GAP.
Walking distance to the Doubletree on John Islip and the exit for Tate Britain museum.
On the Victoria Line where its one stop away from Victoria Station and you can transfer to Circle or District Line.
Pretty quiet station compared to the other major ones around London. read more
My local tube station, Pimlico is a London Underground station in Pimlico, City of Westminster. It is on the Victoria line between Victoria and Vauxhall in Zone 1. The station opened on 14 September 1972 - more than a year after the rest of the line had become fully operational.
The station staff really look after their patch and you'll often travel down the escalator to classical music piped over the PA system read more
Another tube stop you say? Victoria line you say? Yes. To both.
Where you could exit out of Victoria Station to masses of people rushing about to get to work, or tourists standing in the middle of the path staring at the ceiling (which I still do not understand), instead you should opt for Pimlico.
A short flight of stairs to the street and far more civilised, one soon discovers the calm that is so lacking in many other stations. In fact just yesterday I stood on the escalator enjoying classical music playing throughout. Can you imagine?? A TUBE STATION that is so quiet they play classical music and the customer can actually hear it!
There are more Oyster card machines than people milling about. A nice change! read more
