Of all the terms people would use to describe me, "gym rat" is absolutely not one of them. I have…read morenever been someone who would spend hours in the gym "working out". So when FDC gave me a gift for 4 sessions with Perfect Workout, I went with a fair amount of skepticism. Why? Because the program is 1:1 training, with a goal of muscle 'failure' within 2 minutes on any exercise, total of 20 minutes workout 1-2 times a week. How could that possibly make a difference? Still, I went, way back in February, and I've been going ever since. Here's what I love: It is absolutely 20 minutes, no kidding. It's a seriously difficult workout for those 20 minutes. Training is 1:1. There are only two trainers and two people being trained at any time. The trainers are experts. Just because I am not a 'gym rat' does not mean I have never trained or 'worked out'. The difference is that the trainer is paying very close attention to my form, making tiny adjustments that mean I'm using muscles in ways I have never had to before. I learned that I had bad habits, the biggest of which was engaging my shoulders in place of other muscles such as my pectorals or biceps. The 20 minutes, no lie, they are HARD minutes. Everything hurts. By the end my legs feel like jello and my arms like lead. The results are worth it: I'm stronger, though I'll never be a bodybuilder, and I'm stronger in places I have never been before in my entire 56 year life. It's pretty cool. Perfect Workout is not cheap. You can train less expensively many other places. Those trainers may or may not be as good, and you don't really know better until you've trained better. The other thing I love is that my training with Kristi is highly personalized and a dialogue. Sometimes she will think my muscle is at fail, and I know it's not, so I push it. Other times I slip into an old habit and she corrects it right away. It's quite productive. It's been 10 months since I started, and I am still committed and look forward to my workout. For me, it's 100% worth the expense as I'm getting far more out of each session than I ever have before.

I learned more in my first 30 minute workout than I've learned in quite a while about healthy living and the proper way to exercise. I definitely recommend The Perfect Workout to everyone who is looking for results, and to improve their overall health.

In Florida, I worked out in the rec center. Problem there is that "in season" you'd likely have to wait for a treadmill or other piece of equipment. The gym is serviceable, but small. Planet Fitness has a lot of equipment. Everything appears clean, and in good working order. While I don't know what it's like after work, it's never particularly crowded most mornings. If you're on a treadmill or elliptical, you're in clear view of a line of televisions tuned to the popular stations. Locker rooms, with showers, are well-kept. Parking is available in a free lot across the street. The Black Card membership allows the primary to bring a guest, and it can be the same guest all the time. There's also reciprocity in every Planet Fitness around the country. This works out wonderfully for me, living both in Florida and Pennsylvania with branches close to both homes. I stayed with Gold's because of the pool. Planet Fitness has no pool. But the rates are good and as I started out saying, 'so far, so good.'

The coaches are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! Especially Coach Raymond. The members are kind and welcoming. I recently dropped in, and with covid, they are doing a great job keeping things distanced, sanitary, and enforcing mask use (including during the workouts). Everyone seems to care and the sense of community is present. PS they have some of the most fun (but effective) warmups. I would highly recommend attending this gym, whether you're looking to join a new gym or drop in! All movements and workouts are scalable so give it a try!

Just one review? No way. Everyone else is too busy getting swoll…read more.. Joining CrossFit was the first part of jump starting my efforts to lose weight and increase my fitness. But it was the easy part: I showed up, got pushed through a great work out, and connected with peers and neighbors who had the same goals. The hard part, changing my lifestyle so I could actually achieve those goals, didn't start until the 21 Day Reset Challenge. Our household has two full time workers and two young children and our diet for years has been 75% convenience so imagine a lot of take out, pizza night, cheese steaks. The 21 Day Reset Challenge forced us to stop and look at what we were doing to ourselves and our goals by abusing our bodies with an unhealthy diet. For each step forward my wife and I made in the workouts, we were probably taking two steps backwards with our diet. The Challenge provided not only the information we needed in recipes, ideas, and the impact of what you eat, but a format that was engaging and a support group from other athletes to the coaches who were also completing the challenge. This was a major lifestyle change for me and I wouldn't have done it without this challenge. It forced me to rethink everything I put into my body and think of it not just as food satisfying a craving but fuel to a machine. If I wanted a clunky, rundown machine, I could keep skipping meals and snacking on sugar and empty carbs, and gorging on fatty meals without concern for portions. If I wanted to reach my goals and turn my body into an efficient and fit machine, I had to have a plan, stick to it, find supporting partners, and educate myself on when and what type of fuel to consume. The Challenge provided all of that and the changes my family has made since then have stuck and changed not just our daily diet but our approach to our family's fitness and well being. So glad to be a member of this community and all it brings, from classes to clinics and fitness to friendships. *JAZZ HANDS!*
