The long awaited Balans has finally re-open after many, many months of being closed for remodeling. My friends and I had been waiting for this day to come. A few of my friends moved away but we always long for our favorite Happy Hour spot. I was in charge of inspecting the new and improved Balans. We all thought prices might go up and the menu might change but never this drastic. Happy Hour now 4-7pm, inside only and very few food options. The good old Balans is gone. I really did enjoy Oxygen Hookah lounge. I am fond of the outdoor seating, central to downtown Brickell. The place is simple and quaint, however, their hookahs are not. By far the greatest hookah, with such great flavors, that are very strong and the display is incredible. The place melons on top of the hookah, and fresh fruits in the water, in addition, they use neon light which makes a remarkably astonishing display. Unfortunately, I was not fond of the service. Our waiter was far from professional. He sat down next to us casually, which made my friends and I uncomfortable. He then said he can't find the menus so he tried reciting everything from memory. While having lunch, my son goes to restroom and got profiled and stop by the manager telling him he needs to be a paying customer to use the restroom. First time he made the heads out of an orange which was good and I love the look of the hookahs and he promised us if we came back the next day he will have more fruits so we can smoke out of them so we did return and he came through with pineapple heads. Spend a great evening here with my bff, ordered hookah and several nicely mixed cocktails. The DJ was playing some really good stuff. I almost thought about getting up from my umbrella covered table to bust a move, but quickly changed my mind when I remembered my surroundings. It's open air during the late hours, and passerbyers come and go. A couple of times random people and their tipsy entourages started dancing as they made their way down the street to other events. All that to say, it's a nice place for people watching. The hookah was really cool too. The host seemed to be really excited to put it together for us. We had a pineapple guava mix, and the hookah thingy had an actual pineapple on top. It lasted the whole time that we were out there, which was at least an hour. Yes the bar and restaurant looks new but NOTHING GREAT about the new Balans. The music is horrible and wayy wayyy too loud on the inside. Which is why no one was sitting inside. The food menu is expensive for what you get. I ordered a watermelon salad, to receive an arugula salad with 2 little pieces of watermelon. The yuca fries only came with 4 fries and the chimichuri sauce was all garlic. Inedible sauce. Also there is no smoking hookahs inside but with all the windows open the nasty sweet smell comes into the restaurant. I would not bring any children because they have no separation with a smoking area. Shame that the new marry brickell is surpassing Balans completely!!! The Review should just start and end by saying " Justin & Christian" Period. Great team! I have never had customer service that great 3 days in a row. Called Balans on Wed. evening 10/21spoke with Christian the energy through the phone made me super excited to see what they had to offer. Upon arrival, Christian remembered who I was sat us in the most beautiful seat there - Outside where the patio furniture is. Due to COVID, I was nervous about going out- However, temperatures were taken at the door after being sat- our waitor JUSTIN!!!! handed out purell wipes to cleanse our hands.. He polietly but so ever gracuiously asked that we wash our hands... We ordered the White Gummy Bear hookah as well as the Bottle of Chianti. It was Half off wednesday for bottles also was my birthday night so thankful to them for making my birthday so perfect. Ohhh and even better your glass of water // your beverage of choice is never empty- the bottle we bought stayed at the table however Justin came by periodically made sure our glasses never went dry. I SO LOVE HIM. By the way, for someone only working there two-three weeks or so... Baybeh you got it. Big things for you in the future. On my 3rd visit saturday night it was so packed I couldnt get Justin as my waitor super bummed about it --- but yet Justin still found a way- he still came by the table to check on us- the bar was super busy we ordered shots about 30 mins prior to -- he was like Oh no- I got you boo.... he went to the bar and not even 4-5 min later he had our shots out and ready to go.. Our Hookah ran out of coal he went and got us coal himself and still handled his tables as well.. The amount of energy Christian & Justin have is off the charts truly the DREAM TEAM- SO off the charts i decided to come back a second time & then a 3rd time within the same week. I am Flying back this weekend to see them again! I literally told my friends lets fly to MIAMI to go to Balans to see Justin and Christian. -- FYI management is also amazing he walks around as well ..so if you need him hes not too far.
