I've gone to a few classes now. Each instructor has been outstanding. The warm and hot classes are nothing to be afraid of, eventually you get used to it. It helps to arrive hydrated and it's the best sweat ever. If you aren't a fan of the heat and the room being crowded, these might not be the classes for you, but there are plenty more to choose from that are not hot. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this yoga studio. I love it here. They are so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The teachers are incredible. They push you but also always have options for modifications and remind you to rest if you need it. I've taken hot yoga, buti yoga (not for the faint hearted) vinyasa, and lunchtime stretch and have left each class feeling refreshed, renewed, and glad I went. The actual studios are beautiful and they supply you with everything you'd need - mats, towels, blocks, blankets, etc. There are 2 bathrooms and a water filling station. They also have a cute boutique with yoga clothes and accessories. I always look forward to my classes here. read more

As I dive into learning more about the practice, I am appreciating the variety in teaching styles. I have attended 4-5 different classes so far, three different instructors and have learned so many postures. I have had many friends join me for morning classes and only once was it super full. Relaxing, peacful way to start or end the day! Power Flow classes with Jana are my favorite so far. I hope to be a regular yogi soon! read more

A home away from home that always leaves me feeling refreshed and with positive energy for the rest of the day! Classes for every yogi!!

Jana is a responsible business owner. When COVID hit she immediately took all of her studio classes online for, not just her clients, but for the entire community to take part. She also closed down her studio as cases have risen within the community, while others have chosen to stay open. It is tough to make decisions for a business when you know you'll lose money but to do so, because of the genuine concern for the elderly & immuno-compromised people in her community truly speaks volumes to her ethics and values as both a person and community leader. ALSO, her studio is beautiful and clean and inviting. Her staff & teachers are all professional, knowledgeable and welcoming. Highly. HIGHLY recommend this studio. read more

This place is wonderful. Everyone is so helpful and kind about the classes. This place is great!

Love, Love Balanced Yoga. All the teachers are great. Really love Anna and Misty. Very patient and work with you. The Sun salutations on the Sundial bridge at dawn for the Solstice was amazing. Jana the owner is also amazing! She explains poses , helps you through the class and loves to encourage and recommend poses to help you. My core has never been better. Remember why I love yoga. If you are thinking about going,...Go! You will not be disappointed. Recommend the balanced yoga classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Oh and their workshops are also great! read more

This yoga studio is the Best! Jana Parker, owner, makes yoga accessible to anyone who has the desire. She offers an introductory class that will enable you to enter the yoga world free from embarrassment and inspired to continue. She is able to adjust the yoga poses for any individual differences/limitations such as knee problems, shoulder issues, etc. There are classes for every level. The studio is beautiful. Practicing there is a very different experience from taking a yoga class at a club with balls bouncing off the communal walls or viewing a video at home. Jana is always improving her abilities by personally taking classes (out of the area) and sharing the information with her students. I feel very blessed to have found this studio. If you live in the Redding area or are traveling through, treat yourself to an awesome yoga experience! read more

I just started practicing here and I love it! The staff is great. The space is awesome. The rooms are large so even with a large class you don't feel suffocated. I'm excited to continue coming! read more

I've done yoga literally all over the world. From Rancho La Puerta in Mexico to the Russian River and this little hidden gem is a favorite! They even helped me do my first headstand! read more

A great place to do yoga! I'm in the basic classes and the instruction from Jana and Marty is very good. I recommend BYC. Very clean.

I am wary about yoga in different cities because I have had a few less than stellar experiences. Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to visit this studio and take Jana's Level 2 Power Flow class. She was very friendly and welcoming, and genuinely happy to have me there (unlike a previous studio I visited in San Rafael as you would see in my previous review of that studio). I loved jana's use of sanskrit and had a knowledgeable presence in the room. I am a yoga instructor and am picky about classes I take, and I was pleased with this class experience. Class was well-paced and challenging with adequate time for rest without being too slow. The space was totally up-to-date and beautiful, and as the earlier reviewer mentioned, is a great asset to Redding. read more

I love this Yoga Studio. The classes are so good from the very beginning level to the more advanced ones. I recently tried the "Gentle Stretch Yoga" class on Fridays @ noon because I had some knee surgery a few months ago. It has been the perfect re-entry into yoga class again. I've observed the instructors to be professional and helpful to the students no matter what level you are at or what physical challenges you may face. It is also a very clean space! It is a well-run business in every way. Thank you, Jana Parker. read more

I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. People here are really nice, and will actually have a conversation with you. :) Also, the classes are always in a relaxing atmosphere, even if they are higher level and you are being pushed. I've done yoga all around the world so I've been to "the best" and I've been to some pretty terrible ones too. I think if you go here, you'll have a very good experience - good people, good atmosphere, good price and a good experience for your body/soul. Probably the best in Redding. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! I've been to several different classes with a different instructor each time and they have all been fabulous! The studio is beautiful and always VERY clean... The instructors are welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and always eager to correct your poses, I've learned something new in every class... They have a variety of classes for all skill levels and even offer a couple dance/workout classes! They have tons of equipment you can use so if you forget or don't have something you're covered! Their prices are fair and they're located right off the freeway! Love love LOVE this yoga studio! read more

I took a class with Jana Parker, the owner, while I was traveling in Redding. I loved the intelligent sequencing and helpful cueing. She is an attentive teacher, never distracted, and always offering options for all of her students in the class. One feels cared for and taken care of in her class. The studio was clean, quiet and had all the props one could want. The temperature was perfect which is saying a lot for a warm Redding Summer day. I would take a class here again and again and again if I lived here. Highly recommended! read more

I love this place! Authentic yoga. Several varieties. Super friendly and supportive atmosphere

What a nice find! I was visiting family in Redding and found this studio on Yelp. I took a class with Jo Ann and she offers some great advice on inversions. Nice studio with plenty of equipment. read more

Wow!!! What an incredible space with a beautiful energy. I don't live here in town, visiting family & stopped in on a recommendation. SO glad I did. New location. Redding you have a real gem here!!!!! I'm 100% coming back every time I'm in town. Namaste read more

We were visiting family from out of town and found this yoga studio on Yelp. We took a class with, Jana (I believe), and it was a wonderful yoga flow. Definitely making this my studio for practice when I am in redding. read more

Not only does Jana instruct great yoga classes herself but she seems to be equally adept at hiring great instructors.

(I'm not a big Yelp reviewer, but this studio should totally have more of a yelp presence, so I'll start!) This studio is such a wonderful asset for Redding. I actually live in the Bay Area, where yoga studios are practically on every other block, and I've tried a number of different yoga styles at least once, so believe me when I say Balance Yoga Center is a gem. I make a point to drop in for a class here when I'm in town visiting relatives, and it's totally worth the drop-in fee (and if you actually *live* here, a full-on membership is a pretty good deal). The space: Gorgeous clean hardwood floors, high ceilings, heat when necessary to limber up (though not "hot yoga" style), plenty of props, good lighting, can borrow a mat if you forget yours or are just learning. The instruction style: I've primarily been to director/owner Jana Parker's classes, and she definitely knows her stuff. She's trained with some big names in the yoga world, but she's unpretentious and comfortable shifting between styles and intensity, putting her own spin on the class and tailoring it to the students' needs. (I'd call her current style something between Iyengar and Anusara with a dash of Vinyasa flow, though there are a number of other instructors who've trained in other styles....) One difference between this kind of instruction and a "gym yoga" class is that you'll get more individual attention on your form. Why care? Because an instructor who knows how to modify and/or adjust a pose for your individual body type, strength, and ability is able to help you get that much more out of it (and you're less likely to injure yourself over the long term). Jana usually has a little modification to make to at least one of my poses, and she's very professional about it. That kind of knowledge is also really, really helpful for students who may be working with injuries or health issues. The vibe: Relaxed, friendly. Truly a range of students, of both genders and different ages, from college students to soccer moms to active seniors, though obviously the crowd will change somewhat depending on the intensity of the class and time of day. (Gentlemen: you can do yoga, too! Get a few classes under your belt and then try the Energetic Yoga Flow classes -- in my experience, many guys will enjoy this style of slightly faster-paced class and the chance to use their upper-body strength.) Many of the regulars seem to know each other, but everyone's been welcoming to me whenever I've randomly dropped in. The "spiritual/chanting/incense factor": Low. I like that this studio has a modern, un-intimidating philosophy that encourages a little inner reflection but doesn't force you to, say, become an expert in the traditional Yoga Sutras in order to get a workout. They do offer some opportunities to learn more about those aspects of yoga and incorporate them into your own practice, but I like that it's not automatically part of every class. The conclusion: If you're new to yoga, this is a really good place to start learning without feeling like a fish out of water. If you already have an established practice on your own, it's a great place to get some additional instruction and/or incentive to push yourself a little harder. (Also, I think they occasionally offer a pay-what-you-can community class. I haven't been to that one, but donation-based classes are often a good way for people who might not otherwise attempt yoga to at least give it a try!) read more

I haven't tried any other yoga studios in Redding, but this one seemed like the best option because 1) they have a website, 2) they use mindbody, and 3) they have classes in the evening. The studio is nice, clean, and inviting. The instructors vary, I really enjoyed JoAnn and Sarah's classes. I would recommend trying different classes to find the instructors you like. Overall a nice studio to practice in. read more

I've been a teacher at Balance since 2012. After recently coming back after a year-long break I experienced multiple communication and rescheduling issues with Jana. After the final communication mishap, which happened less than 2 weeks before my new class was supposed to start, as well as after I had sent an email to my 80+ students letting them know about the class, I wrote a polite email (yes, it was actually polite and courteous) to Jana expressing my concerns and disappointment about being rescheduled all the time. She responded by telling me I was being "negative" and that I was no longer welcome to teach at Balance. She's changed. I would not recommend practicing at this studio. read more
