My coworkers and I work nearby and eat here at least once a week. For quality sushi ... and for good sushi in DTLA at that, you can't beat the prices for their specialty rolls! Especially considering most of them come with miso soup and a tiny side salad (the sesame dressing is delish)! $20 can get you 2 speciality rolls, so that's 2 rolls + 2 small salads + 2 miso soups ... absolutely unbeatable in the heart of DTLA. Food is always fresh and delish. If you're doing lunch, call ahead and your order will be ready for pickup in 10 min or less. Note, they do sell lotto tickets inside from the same register, so sometimes the line to pay can be long. There's also very limited seating inside and outside, but most patrons I see get their food to go. I get the LA Roll and poke tuna roll almost every week. It's enough food for lunch and dinner and I'm not a small eater by any means haha The poke tuna roll is really unique - it's actually a California roll with poke tuna on top, with pickled radishes and spicy mayo on top. Sushi was great. 1st time going here. The ladies were helpful and I loved that my sushi just automatically came with miso soup and salad. The ramen smelled weird, but i don't eat ramen often so maybe it's supposed to be kinda funky smelling. read more

This place is underrated. I haven't gotten a sushi roll before but I've seen them on peoples plates and they look filling and very photogenic. I've been here three times now and I've gotten a different bowl/plate every time. Easily the best chicken teriyaki bowl in the area. Very filling, tasty, and amazing. I like their spicy tuna bowl too, it doesn't appear appetizing but it's so bomb. The dining area is small but I've always taken the food to go. Even during its busiest lunch rush, I never wait more than 15 minutes here. read more

This little ramen place is near the Walt Disney Concert Hall and is a great choice for an affordable dinner -- and their sushi is good too! For the price, you really can't complain. HOWEVER -- sometimes there are some severe misses here. For example, the shrimp and rice dish has always been too salty and has a strange spice on it. I needed a quick lunch between meetings and decided to give Bak's a try. I wasn't expecting much, but an A-rating and nice menu (with pictures), gave me confidence. What a nice surprise. The food was ready within minutes... Surprising since they had a good crowd. And the as hoped, sushi was fresh and delicious. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I saw a constant flow of dining traffic while I was eating al fresco. This place is clearly very popular among those working in the area too. read more

Cheap, fast, and fairly tasty. I mean it's not the best Asian food you'll ever have, but it's not bad. I like their udon, and I like that you can add half a roll of Philadelphia roll. They serve a lot of food, and their included salad is pretty good. Also, they have good miso, but you can't really mess up miso. read more

If I could be a Petty Patty today, I would. I really wish I could take this food back. I don't even care to have my money back.... I just need them to know that the food they served me was disgusting!!!!! I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Plate to-go. 1. The chicken tasted like it was a Freezer burnt, processed piece of chicken breast from 2012 that they just decided to take out of the back of the freezer and cook up. 2. There was VERY little to NO teriyaki sauce on my food! Literally I couldn't even see the yaki sauce. Which saddened me to the point of no return. 3. The vegetables they put in your food are DEFINITELY processed. My entire plate just tasted like it came from the freezer section at Ralph's. Fresh veggies are a must! I eat this often for Lunch since it is close to my job however it's a hit or miss for sure. Some good items to order would be the LA roll that's my favorite the big salmon rice or the teriyaki chicken rice. Most times the food will be good but, there has been more than a few times that the rice is so soggy and overcooked it is impossible to enjoy your meal. read more

So just to let everyone know, I ordered the "Spicy Tuna Bowl" and this is what I got. I asked the lady, what comes in the "bowl" and she said "rice, salad, seaweed salad and spicy tuna." So I replied, "no rice, just double the seaweed salad." This does NOT mean minus the salad and the entire entree?!?! I basically got spicy tuna, avocado and seaweed salad for $10.49. I had to run back to work, so I couldn't double check the order but DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE AND CHECK YOUR ORDER! I totally feel jipped. Would not recommend! read more

I frequent this establishment because it's very close to our office. They have typical Japanese dishes such as chicken teriyaki and rolls. Because they are in a location with not many eateries, they do get quite a bit of customers during lunch time. Food: overall I'd give the food a B-. The sushi is fair and the chicken plates are decent but not great. However the portions are good and food comes out very promptly. The item I usually get is their beef sukiyaki. I know Yoshinoya is no standard for real Japanese food but I love their beef bowls cause I grew up eating it. And Baks Kitchens sukiyaki is Better!! In my opinion at least. I've tried their rolls, salmon plate, chicken plate but I always return to their beef sukiyaki. Service: it's as good as will get for this type of fast dining establishment. You order at the counter and waitress will bring you your food. You don't tip here, but I feel we should. Bonus: they also sell lotto tickets so try your luck while having lunch! read more

It wasn't that great, I'm gonna be honest. We ordered a Philadelphia roll without the spicy mayo on top. Guess what I got... Sushi with spicy mayo. No big deal, right? After telling them that we ordered it without it, they said they forgot. Went to the restrooms. It was a sad excuse for a bathroom...it looked like there was mold in the soap. The salmon didn't taste fresh, and the cream cheese seemed like it was expired. The udon was okay...but I've definitely had better. Although the food wasn't that bad, it wasn't that great either. I wouldn't take a chance on this place. read more

This was formerly called Tutti Frutti which was mostly frozen yogurt and some sushi. Now that it's called Bak's Kitchen, it's mostly food and some yogurt. They have sushi (and rolls), poke bowls, salads, curry, sukiyaki and some noodle soups. Nice selection of drinks to choose from, snacks, and even lotto scratchers. The food is fresh, quick and reasonably priced. There's some seating inside but there's a lot outside near the fountain and you will get a view of Disney music hall. Always great service here! read more

I had the beef udon. I couldn't eat it. It was absolutely disgusting. The beef was covered in fat (more fat than meat) and it was loaded with onions. It say nothing about white onions on the menu. I had to throw it away. The sushi here is average at best, but don't bother with the udon or ramen. Not a good place at all. read more

I wasn't too sure based on the Yelp ratings but I wanted to get out and it was raining so it needed to be close. I was very pleasantly surprised! They have a simple space but a great menu. I went with the Poke Rice Bowl. It was outstanding. Nice and spicy. The tuna was good quality as was the seaweed and regular salads. Reading some of these low reviews, I feel like people are confused with how to judge a restaurant because they fail to consider relevant factors. This place doesn't market itself as a sit-down restaurant or anything remotely high priced. It's obviously a fast food place with prices around $10 or less. How do you go into such a place and complain about the ingredients being from the freezer for example? At these prices, do you honestly expect organic and local farm ingredients? If that's what you want then you need to be paying way more than what the prices here are. I don't get into a Toyota Corolla and expect it to run like an expensive luxury vehicle. Keep relevant factors in mind when judging something. For the price and how fast the food is made, this place is decent. I took off a star because I usually get the chicken teriyaki plate and the rice is often times slightly stale. I get the feeling it's not too expensive to get decent rice and make it properly and i can't excuse the lack of quality on this particular issue. read more

Ordered a couple of things with my family and had a feast! Their serving sizes are on the larger side so all bellies can be fully satisfied. Also, the have a wide variety of choices. My brother is not really a huge fan of rolls, so he ordered the orange chicken and enjoyed it. On the other hand, I love rolls so this was great I would also recommend the ramen. It comes out hot and steaming just right for the cold and rainy days (although rare in sunny SoCal ). read more

Disgusting. Tossed almost the entire thing in the trash. This was supposed to be orange chicken with rice. The chicken was extremely dry (as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours) and the sauce tasted like nothing but salt - there was absolutely no flavor to my food. On top of it, the rice was nothing but mush. A complete waste of money. read more

The food is decent. But over the last several months I have returned with my sushi and roll order back to my workplace about 4 or 5 times to find they did not pack any wasabi. On the days I do ask, I get a chuckle that I infer to be an "of course we include wasabi". That should be part of their de facto checklist. I mentioned it once before and they did it again today. The fried rice was also a standout and paired perfectly with the meal. Service was great from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving despite how busy it was.
