Stopped in for dinner and was disappointed. I will say that the service was quick and the staff were friendly. However the food and overall vibe was disappointing. The table my party was sat at was way too high to comfortably eat. It was a weird height to eat at. The food did come out quick! My margarita was okay. The queso was grainy and almost tasted like it was made with a dairy replacement cheese. Not my favorite. Chips are good though! I got the beer braised pork tacos and the meat was pretty good but it was basically cold even though it came out 5-7 after we ordered. I'm from out of town and wouldn't visit again. read more

This restaurant was so cool. We are in Columbus for a small vacation from Cleveland and our hotel is right across Bakersfield. I got the Bakersfield margarita and it was amazing! It was happy hour too so they were half off and we in a cute boot! We got the queso and it was probably the best queso I've had in a long time! The tacos are street tacos, so you get to pick a few to try which I loved but ended up only getting one and a half salad (love that option) that was amazing. I've been here a few times over the years - and I remember stating that the taco market was over saturated as it was - but they evidently have the staying power. The most obvious statement about this place - service has always been good to me. Whether I'm with a group of guys drinking margaritas (or beer in glass boots?), with a business associate doing margaritas and guacamole, or having a date eating tacos (and drinking margaritas), they've been friendly, fast, and on top of whatever the request was. Their house margarita is basic - nothing overly remarkable, but it also doesn't taste like the cheapest margarita around (you know, that agave burn sensation?) - their tacos have variety and cover most of the bases of being tasty and flavorful (something other taco bars suffer with). Usually like going but this last time was a miss. I feel like the quality of food for what you pay for is not worth it. I ordered 2 al pastor tacos - and the flavor was more in the sauce the meat was covered in. It didn't seem like the meat was actually marinated with seasonings. I feel like the flavor has changed or something cause it wasn't as good as it usually is. I have been to Bakersfield a handful of times over the years and always enjoy my time there. I'm always pleased - from the delicious pineapple marg (with a $1 add on to make ~spicy~) to the yummy shrimp and fish tacos and even yummier queso dip. The ambience is great too - I love the rustic feel inside. The tacos are pretty reasonably priced. I do wish they had a vegetarian taquitos option as I can't have either but overall the menu has enough vegetarian/pescatarian options for my liking. Love it here! Bakersfield originated from one of the best cities in Ohio: Cincinnati. I came on a Saturday with two friends around 1 and it wasn't packed at all. A few groups were here and there, but it was a rainy day (which may have dissuaded some from coming). When we left sometime around 2, it was getting a little busier but there wasn't really a wait. We got seated right away and our waiter came and took drink orders. We shared the chips and guacamole. It's freshly made and was really good! It came with a good amount of chips too! It was a little chunky so use the spoon to help you mash it some more. I ordered Old Forester with lemonade. It wasn't mixed the way I like as it tasted more like they splashed lemonade in it rather than the other way around. Regardless, it was still very good! And not a bad price for the drink. I think it was $5. My friend got the pineapple margarita, which was a recommendation of the waiter. She loved it! It had a nice sweetness but was also pretty strong. The salt and spice along the mouth of the cup was a nice touch too. My other friend got PBR. Pretty standard and always decent. We all ordered tacos, which they bring out in one platter. I had al pastor which is chicken with pickled cabbage and the shrimp taco. Both recommendations of the waiter. (He was honest about what didn't taste good) yummy! I was not disappointed! I was full! My friends got a mixture of al pastor, fish taco, shrimp taco, pollo rojo, and cochinita pibil ( the spiciest one on the menu). I tried them and they were all super flavorful. My friend didn't like the pollo rojo. The flavors weren't her cup of tea. Note: if you aren't ordering an appetizer, three tacos will suffice. With an appetizer, two tacos will get you as full as a tick. They play old country music here, as in Johnny Cash. It's supposed to be a honky tonk type of ambience. The music helped with that and so did the whiskey options. I will add that I wish they had scotch though. I was really hoping to get some. Still, the options are a selling point and I'm glad this place has a ton of them. Seems hard to find a list of whiskey in this city. Bathrooms were oddly-shaped. It's one room for each gender. The soap is close to the ceiling which I almost didn't see. The mirror is large and wide. A good size. The wall in front of the toilet was close and it made for a tight experience. Overall, service was awesome! Our waiter was personable and made conversation with us. He was really nice and made for the best experience! I'd love to come again and try the queso. Best taco place in town if you ask me. A regular stop for dinner or place to order takeout/delivery from for us. The chips are delicious (and certainly taste like they're made fresh in house, although I don't actually know that) and we always go through so many. As for tacos, I'd recommend the carnitas and short rib. Delicious and not too spicy (if you're a wimp like me). If you can handle a little more spice, I definitely recommend the Al Pastor with the pineapple on top - mmmm. Haven't tried anything else off the menu besides tacos so can't speak to that. So many awesome and not so awesome memories here haha but that's what makes this place so special and it has been for close to a decade now in the heart of short north. The esquite was undercooked and had too much cream, the beans were on the cold side and overcheesed. The green salsa tasted like it had been freshly blended but hadn't been cooked, almost like a green tomato juice. The guacamole lacked salt or pepper or both. The tacos bland. The hot sauce mad onsite tastes like bbq sauce not like hot sauce. One major highlight was the tortillas which are handmade and really nice, and the chips were perfect and had a nice lime flavored salt on them. My margarita was perfect though I ordered it without the simple syrup and it was just right. My salad (the one w hearts of palm) was really nice and fresh. Our waiter was awesome he was a younger guy who was also hosting on a Wednesday night. Good for a group it is loud and fun inside. Just was very underwhelmed by the food itself. I went here last weekend for my friends birthday and I had a great experience. It's located in the short north so you would have to park on the street or in a garage. The inside is really nice and the booth we were at was perfect. For our app we got the short rib queso and it was DELICIOUS. The short rib was cooked perfectly and the queso was delicious. I also tried their quac and it was amazing. The chips and salsa were as expected. I got the carnitas and the shrimp tacos and they were good. There wasn't anything really special about that their tacos. If someone wanted to go there I would go again. For me the wow factor was their appetizers. I had dinner here with my girlfriend the other night and we had a rather pleasant experience. The interior was a rustic industrial feel. Other than the fact our table wobbled occasional and was on a down slope (don't sit in any of the tables near the window), the food and warm environment were inviting. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and quick to recommend his favorite taco. We started with an amazingly cheese queso dip that left us wanting more. The tacos were about palm sized with a blast of flavor. The chipotle slaw added a refreshing touch. I had two Bistec steak tacos and the Short Rib Taco. Due to the portion sizes, I left feeling satisfied but not over filled which was a nice change from what I am typically used to with eating tacos. So why didn't I give this restaurant 5 stars? My problem is that these tacos are not worth $4 each. For the size that they are, they should cost $3 each or even $2.50. This way I will not feel gouged to be paying over $12 for my small portioned meal. Overall great experience and I would return. read more

I've gave this place a couple more tries. And I just really don't like it. I gave it more stars on my first review because I didn't want to be too harsh. But now I won't hold back. I really don't like their Tacos. Which are supposed to be their specialty. They are really dry. The Flavor is lacking as well. I remember eating one of their Beef tacos. And it just tasted plain. I've had at least one of all of their tacos. And I haven't had one where I thought it was pretty good. And I'm not a huge fan of the queso either. The first time I had it I sort of liked it. It has nice flavor. BUT it's like chalky or grainy. Is hard to describe for me. I'm more a fan of queso that is creamy and gooey. So the texture kind of turns me off the more I have it. I gave a lot of credit for the atmosphere last review. However i think a restaurant should be primarily judged on the food. And for me, it just doesn't do it for me at all. The service is still nice. It's just the food that I'm not too big of a fan of. I'm only a fan of one of their sandwiches. But i want to be able to explore the menu at a restaurant. read more

Staff is great and super nice. Patio option. Tacos are a little pricey at $4 but they have an a la cart option pp for $16. Plenty of drink options, space and staff to have a great experience. The Black Beans--beer braised, and with queso fresco-- were EXCELLENT, and were reminiscent of a black bean soup. 5/5 The Short Rib Queso with braised short rib, pickled white onion, crema, radish, queso fresco, cilantro was EXCELLENT, as was the Loaded Queso with chorizo, black beans, pickled pepper. Both 5/5 The Roasted Cauliflower, with portobello, bell pepper, poblano, queso, queso fresco, cilantro was DELICIOUS!! 5/5 Food-wise, the above 4 dishes are what we will return to Bakersfield for! The Esquites (smoky roasted corn salad, cotija, cilantro) was good but didn't wow us. 3.5/5. We also tried about 8 different tacos. Tacos are individual small bites tapas style. All were good and flavorful, and one or two were very good, but none were exceptional. And certainly none were disappointing or even mediocre either. 3.5/5 to 4/5. Overall 5/5. I was not too crazy about this place. Let's just get that out of the way. They're not doing anything wrong here, I just think there are several better options right here in the neighborhood and beyond where you can get something better for a lower price. There was nothing positive that stood out here. Everything was status quo. I did not love my tacos, the margarita pitchers were fine, the prices were reasonable, the service was just okay. (they weren't very busy- it was a Sunday afternoon, so I guess I expected stellar service for our group). I think everyone in our group of 9 left a bit disappointed. For a special occasion in our friend group, we were just looking for something a bit more impressive. We took a chance on a place that none of us had ever been and we were instead given reasons to stick to the places we know! I don't see any reason to ever return here because there is nothing drawing me back. If I happened to be on that city block and I was with someone who really wanted to go in there, I'd go again. Maybe I'd try something different besides the tacos or maybe I'd just get a drink there though and eat elsewhere. read more

I walked into Bakersfield once during my first trip to Columbus and they said the wait was over an hour long. Second time's the charm, I guess. I wandered in with a friend of mine during my second visit and they said the wait was only 15 minutes. We were sold.
