Not a fancy place, but really delicious food. Best broiled chicken anywhere! Great rice pudding too. Staff is always great.

You could go to a number of local steakhouses and pay an outrageous amount for a single steak dinner. Or you could drive literally to the edge of South West Canton to Baker's and have steak for two. The only other way to get a steak this good and this affordable is to grill it yourself, and there are nights when you just can't wait for the coals. Their Blue Cheese salad dressing is like no other, inspiring me to go digging into 30's and 40's homemaker tomes for 'real' dressing recipes thick with cream. This is a neighborhood tavern, a classic American saloon preserved for the 21st century to enjoy. They have a breathtakingly nostalgic LONG bar with a perfect long line of bar stools. I never got to raise a glass with my grandfather, but he was a lifelong habitue of workingmens' taverns exactly like this. If you like quality food, value, and authenticity, check out Baker's 33. read more

My sons chicken tenders were undercooked badly and u could clearly see the raw meat. If they can't prepare fried chicken tenders correctly then I would be very concerned about the chefs ability with other menu items. Also, the manager could not have been worse! Strongly recommend dining elsewhere!! read more

Not good at all! Lobster was overcooked and Steaks had no flavor, mushrooms out of a can! Will never go back!

Great steak. Had the 12 ounce boneless ribeye. $28 and worth it. Excellent cut of meat, well prepared to a perfect medium rare. Had the house red beets which were great. Fries typical frozen fries. But I did not go for the fries. Good casual steak house. read more

Let me just say Jim is such a good guy. When you walk in the restaurant ask to be waited by Jim you won't regret it. The steak was amazing as well as their sweet tea. But their bread was awful just was white wonder bread I'm pretty sure. Their apple sauce also tasted very gross. But Great Scenery and Great Service. read more

One of the Best places to get a Steaks in stark county! Friendly employees. It's kinda hidden hard to find at first! Always a great place for great food! read more

Way over priced. You get ordinary sides, Hash browns or baked potato and a simple salad with white vinegar and oil, one cherry tomato and a slice of onion. The cheapest steak was a 10oz Boston strip for 24.95 The steak was ok but certainly not worth the price. We sat in a window less back room that was stuffy and cramped. The wait staff sucked , we were there two hours after we were seated. Never did get a refill on drinks. All in all 5 people 4 adults and one child no adult beverages and cost us 183.00 plus tip. Way over the top! Do you yourself a favor go to Gervase. You will save some cash and get better food. The only reason that this place is busy is that all the patrons are in their 60's and 70's and don't know any better. We will not be back read more

Not quite sure what the draw to this place is. The interior looks very sterile. Service was very slow (but nice). Prices are relatively high, and the steaks are completely average. That was the biggest disappointment. Definitely edible, but broiled (rather than grilled), and just OK. read more

Summary: I would give this place at most a C+ for a steakhouse for this area (but compared to other steak houses I have been in this country, it's a C- maybe as low as a D+), and as a restaurant a C-. Seriously, you can get a wayyyy better steak at Sams club or the local butcher shop to grill up for less than 1/2 the cost. I'm giving it 1 star because it really needs to be brought down from a 4 star average, although I believe the meat/fish by itself averages 3/5. I have been here around 6 times over the last 2 years as my parents take me here because one of them really likes this place for whatever reason. I actually feel like its such a rip off that I stopped going there to eat with my family even though I wasn't the one paying to save them money. Older people flock to this place presumably because its meat and taters as well as extremely bland. Every time I showed up around 5-6 on Friday evening, there has only been a few other people in there --at most around 3 small tables. I have a feeling this place is sinking and have no idea how it stays open. Once all the baby boomers go, I'd be surprised if this place stays in business for very long. Overall below average steak (of which its quality ranges from below average to a tad wee bit good), average to good walleye, good pork chop, terrible frozen shrimp (tastes worse than Long John Silvers), terrible salads, excluding potatoes the other side dishes are terrible (almost all of which taste frozen or canned). Seriously, you can get a wayyyy better steak at Sams club or the local butcher shop to grill up for 1/2 the cost, and definitely whip up some better side dishes at home. SALAD: My biggest beef with food here is the side salad. Its bad. Its wilted and not even remotely fresh. It always comes out soggy and wet and has never been crispy. It appears to be the pre made mixed green salad that comes chopped in a bag at the grocery store. The dressing is boring, and do not get the house salad dressing, it's the worst. Seriously, why isn't this place utilizing fresh ingredients in the summer for local salads, maybe make a salad dressing with some Dijon mustard, olive oil, vinegar, honey, and some tahini sauce? SIDE-DISHES: The only good sidedishes are the potatoes. The home fries are actually really good if you happen to be in the Meat and Taters mood. All the veggie dishes taste like typical canned or frozen goods-- pretty bad for a so called restaurant. Its not that difficult to make something from fresh ingredients. How can this place serve canned or frozen sides and stay is business is beyond me. PRIOR COMMENTS I AGREE WITH: Been going there for years and have watched the place go downhilll.(William C) Mediocre food. (William C) Food: over priced (Alex S.) Yeah the decor isn't the greatest (Thomas U) PRIOR COMMENTS I DISAGREE WITH: the food is really fantastic (Jessica H) The strip was amazing! (Nicholas J) Baker's Cafe is a hidden gem on Canton's south side. The steaks are absurdly fabulous! (Keri K) really delicious food. (Rick F) It is HANDS DOWN the finest steak you'll find in Northeastern Ohio. (Julie L) read more

Had dinner here last week. Second time here. First time good. This time I chipped a molar on a strip steak - small bone fragment. This will turn out to be the most expensive steak dinner I've ever had...with the crown. read more

Horrible service for our party of 12 on Sat evening. Having visited before, expected slow service. But server was slow and confused, even tho parties of 12 are limited to 5 menu choices. Salads were served, and entire table had to wait for silverware. Some side dishes, and water for entire table never arrived after several reminders. One diner requested shrimp cocktail as main course. It arrived a good 20 minutes after everyone else had been served. Forget about trying to reorder a drink. Owner/ mgr would not help waitress fill drink orders and did not seem interested in the poor service when a member of our group spoke to him privately. We were not a rowdy group. I doubt that I'll return, which is unfortunate because I like to support locally owned businesses. Wake up Bakers and hire some professional staff. read more

If your in canton or Akron find this place. Will not be unsatisfied. Awesome food!!!!!!

We (my husband and I) went to Bakers last night with my parents, sister, and brother in law. We had the best service we've ever had at a restaurant from the wonderful Kathy. She joked with our table and became an extension of our family. As they work through some growing pains with opening the new restaurant they were kind and courteous. Please go with an open mind that they are working out kinks (ran out of filets, my salad was served only 2 mins before my entree, and a steak was over-cooked) but they accommodated us wonderfully. Best of luck and we will return during our next trip back to Ohio read more

Delightfully surprised. The location certaintly doesn't inhibit the quality of the food! The strip was amazing! Don't forget to add peppers! read more

Baker's Cafe is a classic old school casual steak house that has been around forever. You don't stay open as long as they have in the location they are in without serving a quality steak. I've never left unhappy my steak has always been perfect. Get the strip your first time and add peppers. read more

Perhaps my review is a bit influenced by all of the hype I've always heard about Bakers. I've always wanted to try it, and finally had the chance to do so recently. I was pretty disappointed in the atmosphere and furnishings. Very spartan and plain. I perhaps put more emphasis on a restaurant's decor than others might feel is merited, but theming and decor is part of what makes a restaurant special. This place doesn't have it. Tables, chairs, and that's it. The food was fine. I have no complaints, but I'm not quite sure that I understand what all the fuss is about. My guess is that most folks who have lived in the area all their lives probably just ascribe some mythical status to it and don't continually reassess each time they visit. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing bad or negative about my experience. Servers were attentive, food was ok, but the price was a bit too high for what you're getting. So all in all, it's a pretty average and underwhelming experience. read more

THE best steak around! The bloody Mary and vodka martini are very, very good. It is definitely worth the trip to this hidden gem (to borrow from another review). read more

We went before the dinner rush and still had a fairly long wait. After we got seated the waitress told us they were out of t-bones which is what I went for and also out of salmon scallops pork chops shrimp cocktail and most of the deserts so I was dissappointed. We didnt get our salad for 1/2 hr after we ordered. The food and drinks were a little pricey. I ended up getting the large strip which I would rate between very good and fantastic so I was happy with the steak. Im glad I went to check it out but probably wont be going back. read more

This is by far one the best steaks I have ever eaten. If you haven't heard or or haven't been to bakers then you are truely missing out. I have been there several times and have never had bad food or service. The service is always great. Save room for the peanut butter pie. Great as well. Canton Landmark! Will be a customer for life. read more

Great steaks and the house salad dressing was like my mother made. Nice "Cheers" type atmosphere.

There's no other way to say it. I'm almost offended. When I pay big bucks for a meal, at the very least, I expect the place to be clean and updated, even if just a little. I'm not sure where the money from the overpriced meals goes, but it sure isn't back in to the restaurant. The bathroom doors were filthy and it still boasts one of those old hand towel mechanisms where the towel just goes around and around. Honestly, I don't mind paying $30.95 for a steak when there's a little atmosphere to go with it. Autographed pictures of golfers on 1970's faux wood paneling surrounded by cheap, old metal chairs do NOT qualify. Now for the good parts: the service was excellent. The servers could not have been nicer. The steaks were good, not great. A little more seasoning would have brought them out of their shell. My son had the scallops and they were also good, not great. 6 small, yet fresh, scallops on a piece of lettuce for $19.95. A little searing would have done those a world of good. So, no I probably won't return. I can pay those prices at LOLA in Cleveland for a far better meal with a great atmosphere and a clean, updated restaurant. read more

Went to Bakers with my wife and an another couple to celebrate a couple of birthdays, have been there in the past but not for a couple of years. Everything was fine till our food came, we all ordered steak 3 large strip and one Delmonico, they were all ordered medium except mine was ordered medium rare, when they were served my was cooked more than the rest I informed the waitress who agreed and was very nice and offered to take it back, which she did my new steak was brought out when everybody else was about finished eating. I felt I was being punished for sending it back, it was very good all the meals were. This is where it gets weird the owner came out of the kitchen to serve the table beside us as he was leaving he said something derogatory about who was the person returning their steak and went into the kitchen. I did not here him but my wife and other couple heard him, we told the waitress what he had said, she said she would check, when she came back from the kitchen looking embarrassed, told us he said if we did not like it there do not come back we were all stunned, still are about being treated so rude, the waitress was nice and apologetic, the owner must think he has so much business he does not have to treat people with respect. He does not have to worry we will never be back, and make sure we tell people about our experience, read more

It was a bad experience from the moment we walked in the door. We called 4 days ahead to make reservations for 12 people. We were told no problem. Even called the same day to confirm the reservations, and again told no problem. Got there, waited 10 minutes before we were even greeted, and I don't know if I would even call it a greeting. We had to flag someone down to let them know that our party was there. She had our name written down on a pad of paper and told us that they were clearing our table and it would be a few minutes... okay.. fine. 30 minutes later, we had to flag another person down... and I will add, that during that 30 minutes, we witnessed people walking in, getting no help and leaving disgusted at the service. So, the man that we flagged down, I am assuming was owner or manager, as we explained we had reservations, we barely got that out of our mouths before he said "we don't take reservations", "I have a sign hanging up at the bar that says so" , (how would I see that sign when I am CALLING on the PHONE to make the reservations?) and so, I asked the obvious question of "then why did your staff allow us to make reservations?" ... he was very rude and actually turned his back on me and walked away as I was mid-sentence...and I had to regain his attention, and at some point in the conversation he said "I can't make reservations and take the chance of you not showing up, then I have an open table"... Needless to say- my party left without being seated, very disgusted... we ended up at Bender's downtown and had the best meal and service. I don't care how good your steaks are Baker's, I will not be dining with you, and shame on you Mr. Owner of Baker's, for not being able to handle the hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant, and treating your potential customers with such a lack of respect. First impressions are the most important and you just ruined what could have been a good relationship. read more
