Occasionally I go out for a night on the town. Mr. Snarky said that there was a leaving do for someone at work and he wanted me to go with him. He said it would be at Baker Street. I thought we were talking about an actual street in Swindon, rather than a bar, so when I walked by it, it all made sense. If you walk down Wood Street at 10:30 p.m. midweek, you'll notice that places are open, but there aren't many people about.
So when we walked into Baker Street, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. There were about 18 of us in total... to be fair, I hadn't seen most of the people that were there because we arrived after everyone else. There was music playing, although nothing that made you want to dance. We had a seat and I noticed that the decor was fairly dark, but definitely along the Asian theme. They do have a fairly extensive cocktail menu and there are 241 cocktails every night of the week.
The staff seemed like they really didn't want to be there. In fact, at one point one of the staff started clearing off the candles and other items off of the table, but in the rudest way possible. There was no warning of last call, so when a couple of people went up for a juice and soda they were told they were no longer serving. Apparently they serve food and the night we were there was a burger vs. steak night. I haven't seen the menu, but according to their website they serve classic pub food and offer a Sunday Lunch. They do close quite early compared to some of the other bars in the area, so if you are hoping to stay out longer, you may want to have another place in mind after Baker Street closes. read more
