Five real ales if I remember rightly, and they are all well kept by a knowledgeable landlord and staff. Not had the food, but the landlord has a good reputation from previous places he's had. Skittle alley is there too, and the place has regular events such as live jazz, barbecues, wine tastings and so on. A class act.

The young lady was so helpful but said there would be a wait of about 90 minutes. No problem to us as we then able to have a couple of drinks before hand. So, a TIP. This pub is brilliant so nearly always full. BOOK A TABLE. A few people turned up after us but were told they couldn't be seated. We were so lucky. The food was out of this world with pricing more down to earth. Service could not be beaten by a wonderful staff of young ladies who, luckily for us, had a great sense of humour. They needed it serving us. Lovely pub with an unusual interior décor which went with the area. A really good wine choice for such a small place. Normally it's red, white or rose. Now to knock a member of management. The board showed two dessert wines, which I love. Unfortunately these, at the time, were unavailable because the owner had gone to Spain with the cabinet key, I was told. Sorry, Richard you nearly lost a star. Just joking. Well worth the trek to find this diamond in the Forest of Dean. Trust me, you will love it but, remember, BOOK ahead.

Greeted by a very bubbly bar maid who asked us what we wanted to drink, I also asked for the menu and found a table to sit down at we ordered the food at the bar and it wasn't long before our food arrived. The food was fresh, very tasty. Not long after we were asked by one waitress if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else to which I replied everything was fine I was then asked again by the manager everything was ok and if I wanted anything else again responded everything is fine I was asked a third time by the bubbly barmaid if everything was ok and if you want anything else, there's a fine line between efficiency and being over the top when running any sort of establishment giving service you'll probably find the Huntsman is typically quite well run but they hop over the line of acceptable over attentiveness, it's really about meaning what you say and saying what you mean and knowing when to stop, they are obviously trying to be as customer focussed as they can be, the training (over-training) has taken place but they haven't got the buy in from all the staff. The decor is a little worn and tired. Could not fault the service and food. Can't give more than three stars for the over attentiveness, lacking the genuine feel, the seats are filthy, more than a couple of days worth of dust and the tiredness of the furnishing.

It certainly wasn't an eating pub and pretty much a lawless land at times! Any way that was yonks ago! The pub has now stood the test of time for a number of years as a good eating pub. It has a cosy atmosphere and I've never been disappointed with the food. My last visit there was last Saturday for my Grandpappy's 79th birthday. 8 of us went and we were all more than happy with the food and service. Meals consumed on our table were my choice of beef, ale and mushroom pie, lamb shank, salmon, pork belly in a cider sauce, home made lasagne and the special: chicken supreme. The pie was excellent, marred only slightly by my food envy of Grandpappy's pork belly, wow! All in all a great night and based on this visit I have to give the Globe 5 stars, as it was a flawless meal and Grandpappy had the best birthday he could ask for. Good times.

Some years ago now The Globe had an impressive refurb, kicked out the under age rif raff and here you have the pub it is today. You still have the locals that gather at one end of the bar, but the back of pub is predominantly for dinners. You'll find the usual suspects on the menu, fish & chips, lasagna, steak etc. but the last few times if been I've chose from the specials board. Tonight was a family birthday so about 10 of us visited, I had Supreme of chicken which was served with rice and salad. It was good quality pub grub, nothing cordon blu but it was really tasty, decent portion and good value. My husband had the pie and chips, he enjoyed it although others who had the same complained it was a bit rich and the lid was 'too much crust'. The staff were fairly friendly, and attentive checking things were okay with our orders etc and willing to bring drinks to the table. My issue with The Globe is it does seem to lack atmosphere, I'm not sure what or how it just does, I never leave thinking 'I must go back'. Having said that it's always busy, so they must be doing something right.

(booking is essential. I once turned up and they were very rude about me not booking, even though when i had rung to book the gent who answered told me to just come in) So this time i arrive to enjoy a roast and im told coldly by the rude mistress type front of house/barwoman that there is no more lamb or pork. (just beef then!) she doesnt appologise for there being only 1 choice of roast, and curtly asks my dear mother what kind of spritzer in a almost fierce way that compliments her fake smile perfectly. she rushes us to order and continues to be un-accomodating when we ask to sit outside in the garden. Then when we choose to sit outside, ignoring her rudness and inflexibility, its insinuated that i might not pay and im asked to leave my card behind the bar. I decide then id prefer not to dine here , but felt given the time i have no choice as it was getting late to find somewhere else. Thankfully the well spoken gentleman working made up for his rude colleagues manner, and in the end the meal was fine, and the afternoon enjoyable. I saw her desperately drawing on her fags out the back whilst i was eating, and it occured to me that she was probably rude because she needed a nicotine fix! (i remember those days) with a friendlier front of house manager i would highly reccomend this to friends and family, but as i believe dining out is an experince, i will not be. change the moody 'madame type' front of house and you have an exceptional pub to eat at in the forest of dean. ACCOMODATION: I have not stayed here or seen the accomodation, but my sister who is experinced in the hospitality industry was appualed. in her words she was made to feel very unwelcome and like i was an inconvenience she also said the accomodation was shabby and not very clean Please note, she stayed in December 2011 and it may well of got better (forever optimistic!).
