While in Vegas, I had to take my car for Smog Test. The problem was that my car has a California plate, not Nevada! The closest options available were in Baker, California, which is about an hour and a half drive. I looked online and decided on Baker Smog Check. It is located a little off the Main Street in Baker and is nothing more than a small, stand alone shack. When I got there, there was someone ahead of me, but I did not have to wait more than ten minutes. The work took no more than 30 minutes, my car passed the test and it cost me $80, which I had to pay with cash. Make sure to have enough cash with you. I did not have enough cash so I had to scramble to get some. The technician whose name was Arturo was a true professional. He let me take my car and drive around the corner to the only ATM around and get the cash I needed. I highly recommend Bake Smog Check. read more

Star smog. I needed a vehicle that I was selling in las Vegas to be smogged. They were the closest from Las Vegas. Jesus was a great tech. Follow his recommendations prior to making the drive. There is a smog test in baker but he only opens on Saturday and doesn't do dyno. Cars pre 2000 The price was comparable to all smog test in the area. read more

Great service, quality work and fast. Thanks team for helping my son get his car taken care of

This is the closest Las Vegas and had to get it done quickly but didn't have time on a Saturday. I took my chances and called. The owner immediately answered and he was kind enough to open up for me on a Wednesday. Great communication and excellent customer service. read more

Bring cash! No cards accepted. Super friendly and very quick service. The owner is also very knowledgeable. I got exactly the service I hoped for! Two thumbs up. read more

I came here this past Saturday for a CA smog check. It's the closest CA smog check station for those of us who live in in Las Vegas but still have CA registration. I got here roughly at 8:45 am and there were 4 cars ahead of me and 1 being smogged. I was in and out of there within about 1 hour. Arturo was quick, efficient, friendly and professional. I would have no hesitation to come back. He is the only smog tech and he works extremely hard and fast to get to everyone quickly. The cost of the smog is $71.75 for the test and $8.25 for the certificate. He is open only on Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Cash only. Per Arturo, the line is shorter after 11:30. There are no public restrooms so plan accordingly. read more

Quick, fast and easy! He only accepts cash ! I waited maybe 20 minutes and got there around 11:30am!

The line was a little long when we got there but he was fast & was accommodating when needed

Super quick and convenient, we came right at the open time and were third in line. The whole thing including wait time was 30mins.

Arturo is great! Quick and efficient. Got here at 11am 5 cars in line. I waited an hour. $80 cash only. For a one man shop. I would definitely recommend! read more

Are you kidding me?? $80 pass or fail & $50 retests?? No wonder people make the extra drive to Barstow or Victorville. I recently moved to Vegas but already paid Cali this year to register my truck. I didn't realize until I received an incomplete registration form to remind me of a smog check. Saw some low reviews on Google but thought I'd come by anyway. Their only open Saturday's so you know they have other gigs during the weekday. Anyway, I didn't mind the $50+ increase since this establishment is in the middle of nowhere and I understand that they capitalize on NV folk with CA plates. But NO free retest is ridiculous even on my same day - same hour visit. My diagnostic went well but a cap was visually broken so I rushed to a nearby shop that thankfully also gouged me for that cap to ensure a pass. $130 total paid for my smog + $45 for a used replacement cap down the hole. My registration was cheaper than this $175 visit which doesn't even account for the 2hr drive each way to be here. Clearly, I'm not a happy patron especially since it seemed as though the, granted very friendly technician, said he would waive the retest fee if I came back right away. I guess I heard wrong. Would it hurt to offer free retests? If not within 3-7+ days like other establishments but at the very least same day?? The kicker was when he performed the visual inspection again. I would have flipped had he magically found another aspect wrong. Thankfully that was that and just took me for 130 bucks. Sorry for venting but I can't help it when the shop next to my house advertises $9.99 smog checks + free retests. read more

Why are there so many positive reviews for this place? Lies! Don't believe them! Dude that runs this place is rude af! First of all, I called before hand to find out if it was open and let him know that I'd be in. So why the hell didn't he mention that his business is cash only and that his smog checks will set you back $80? Because dude is greedy and is taking advantage of the bad situation that is going on with COVID19! He over charges on his services because he knows people from Las Vegas with Cali plates need smog checks and have very limited choices. I have spent the last 6 years paying $10 for smog checks in Cali and because of the situation that's going on, I am stuck in Nevada for another month and I can't just drive to LA so easily. I wish I had known it would be like this, I would have driven the extra time to Barstow on another day. Seriously, drive to Barstow, save yourself some money but most importantly, take business away from this rude ass dude. read more

Don't go here!!! The owner Arturo has no customer service. He knew we were driving all the way from Vegas and I kept calling him all the way while driving to let him know my traffic situation. I got there as he was about to close and he turned me away. We ended up driving to Barstow to get the smog test which is 40 min away and they were so much nicer and $20 cheaper. I would never ever recommend anyone to come to this location. Arturo makes you feel like he's doing you a favor by doing your smog. No thank you!!! read more

This was the first Smog check I've done and it was quick & easy! There were 5 cars in line, I pulled up & just lined up behind the 5 cars. It took about an hour and a half and he only took about 15 min to check my car & then I was good to go back home to Las Vegas! Super great service & I will recommend to anyone who has Cali plates & lives in Nevada read more

Alturo got the job done although we had to wait 2 hours for our car to be serviced. Baker Smog Check is only open on Saturday's and there was a line of 10 cars ahead of us despite our arrival at 9:45. Alturo moved as fast as he could and was efficient. Cash only of $80. read more

I dropped by today to get my car smog and everything went smoothly. There was a long line when I got there as there are no appointments, first come first serve. The place only opens on Saturday and I would call ahead so you don't drive down and find out it is close. I know some reviews here brought up the cost of the smog which is $80 cash only but this is the closest smog station in Nevada so take it for what it's worth. I am pretty sure you can find cheaper places for a smog check if you drive further away but gas and time should be factored into your equation. The owner was very friendly and things move along even though the line was quite long probably since this is week after Thanksgiving. read more

Got exactly what we needed accomplished. The owner was as efficient as possible and friendly. Get here early, be prepared to wait in line, and have cash available for payment. No extra fees--only charges the typical CA smog fee (aprox $80 or so). Open only on Saturdays. Thank you! See you in two years for the next smog! read more

Although it cost $80 for the smog check, it is convenient when you live in Las Vegas but your car is registered in California. The gentleman working there is very kind and soft-spoken. He is also very thorough. I will continue to use Baker smog check in the future. Much more convenient than driving another hour to Barstow. read more

this place is horrible! very rude and no customer service at all.. the guy is just on his phone ignoring the questions that i was asking him.. $80 cash?? very shady and dirty place! save your money and go to barstow they less than $50 read more

It's so funny the negative reviews here because the guy charges "too much" with his $80 cash...Lol, no one is making you go here and if you want to save a few bucks there's nothing stopping you from driving another hour into Barstow. Me personally, the extra $20-30-odd bucks is worth saving 2 hours on my day. That's Capitalism, baby. And being from Sonoma County, it's really no difference anyway. Dude was nice, professional, and got us in and out in 15 minutes. It was a piece of cake and we were back on the road and home by 11am. Thank you Baker Smog!!! read more

We just moved to Nevada from California, we were recommended this place to get our smog done since our cars are Californian still. This place literally saved my life since my plates are from Cali and needed smog for new registration. Worth the price. Owner was nice and got me in and out very fast. Wouldn't ever drive an extra hour for Barstow.

I live 2 miles into California & getting smog was an entire day of travel. I spied Baker Smog when I stopped to eat in Baker. Had no idea it was there. Called thinking it was to good to be true found out it was true!! There is smog check in Baker! Glory Be!! Went in & could not have been happier! The owner Arturo is pleasant, friendly and funny. Through job! Much quicker than I expected. The building was amazingly cool for the temp it was outside. The price and cash only is worth it for the convenience and supreme service! It's a primo service for us tucked away in the middle of nowhere Calif residents for sure! My all day trip is now about 2 hours so I'm a customer for life! read more

The service I received from Arturo was stellar and I would recommend his expertise for most smog services. The young man was friendly, informative, and efficient. I am glad to have met him and will return/refer people to Baker Smog Check. I was very stressed about my check engine light being on... I now know how to perform a drive-cycle on my Volvo S-60 after what I have learned from Arturo. I was glad my 81 mile trip to his Smog Station was well worth the drive. Sincerely, Moe read more
