While in Vegas, I had to take my car for Smog Test. The problem was that my car has a California plate, not Nevada! The closest options available were in Baker, California, which is about an hour and a half drive. I looked online and decided on Baker Smog Check. It is located a little off the Main Street in Baker and is nothing more than a small, stand alone shack. When I got there, there was someone ahead of me, but I did not have to wait more than ten minutes. The work took no more than 30 minutes, my car passed the test and it cost me $80, which I had to pay with cash. Make sure to have enough cash with you. I did not have enough cash so I had to scramble to get some. The technician whose name was Arturo was a true professional. He let me take my car and drive around the corner to the only ATM around and get the cash I needed. I highly recommend Bake Smog Check. read more

I came here this past Saturday for a CA smog check. It's the closest CA smog check station for those of us who live in in Las Vegas but still have CA registration. I got here roughly at 8:45 am and there were 4 cars ahead of me and 1 being smogged. I was in and out of there within about 1 hour. Arturo was quick, efficient, friendly and professional. I would have no hesitation to come back. He is the only smog tech and he works extremely hard and fast to get to everyone quickly. The cost of the smog is $71.75 for the test and $8.25 for the certificate. He is open only on Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Cash only. Per Arturo, the line is shorter after 11:30. Are you kidding me?? $80 pass or fail & $50 retests?? No wonder people make the extra drive to Barstow or Victorville. I recently moved to Vegas but already paid Cali this year to register my truck. I didn't realize until I received an incomplete registration form to remind me of a smog check. Saw some low reviews on Google but thought I'd come by anyway. Their only open Saturday's so you know they have other gigs during the weekday. Anyway, I didn't mind the $50+ increase since this establishment is in the middle of nowhere and I understand that they capitalize on NV folk with CA plates. But NO free retest is ridiculous even on my same day - same hour visit. My diagnostic went well but a cap was visually broken so I rushed to a nearby shop that thankfully also gouged me for that cap to ensure a pass. $130 total paid for my smog + $45 for a used replacement cap down the hole. My registration was cheaper than this $175 visit which doesn't even account for the 2hr drive each way to be here. Clearly, I'm not a happy patron especially since it seemed as though the, granted very friendly technician, said he would waive the retest fee if I came back right away. I guess I heard wrong. Would it hurt to offer free retests? If not within 3-7+ days like other establishments but at the very least same day?? The kicker was when he performed the visual inspection again. I would have flipped had he magically found another aspect wrong. Thankfully that was that and just took me for 130 bucks. Sorry for venting but I can't help it when the shop next to my house advertises $9.99 smog checks + free retests. read more

First of all, I called before hand to find out if it was open and let him know that I'd be in. So why the hell didn't he mention that his business is cash only and that his smog checks will set you back $80? Because dude is greedy and is taking advantage of the bad situation that is going on with COVID19! He over charges on his services because he knows people from Las Vegas with Cali plates need smog checks and have very limited choices. Don't go here!!! The owner Arturo has no customer service. He knew we were driving all the way from Vegas and I kept calling him all the way while driving to let him know my traffic situation. I got there as he was about to close and he turned me away. We ended up driving to Barstow to get the smog test which is 40 min away and they were so much nicer and $20 cheaper. This was the first Smog check I've done and it was quick & easy! There were 5 cars in line, I pulled up & just lined up behind the 5 cars. It took about an hour and a half and he only took about 15 min to check my car & then I was good to go back home to Las Vegas! I dropped by today to get my car smog and everything went smoothly. There was a long line when I got there as there are no appointments, first come first serve. The place only opens on Saturday and I would call ahead so you don't drive down and find out it is close. I know some reviews here brought up the cost of the smog which is $80 cash only but this is the closest smog station in Nevada so take it for what it's worth. I am pretty sure you can find cheaper places for a smog check if you drive further away but gas and time should be factored into your equation. Although it cost $80 for the smog check, it is convenient when you live in Las Vegas but your car is registered in California. The gentleman working there is very kind and soft-spoken.
