Security staff seem alright, haven't had any issue with them. Entry fee is as extortionate as you might expect, I'm sure it was more than a tenner to get in, but you'll have that. Music choice was pretty good, I believe we were in the second floor dance area and they were playing a good mix of oldies. It's very student oriented so I wouldn't go there if I was over 23 really.

Upstairs you will find yet another bar, an arcade area, and the toilets - which are actually brilliant as each cubicle is like its own washroom altogether. You'd need a lot of energy to lap this pub a few times. The smoking area is a huge court, and also has many places to sit and converse around the edge of it. The prices aren't too bad, and there are a lot of students around mid-week, but they don't have a great range of drinks. One thing to note when you're coming or going is that the road in front of Barcode is very wide and a higher speed limit, so be careful crossing the road as there have been far too many accidents outside this club!

During the day the club operates as a swimming pool, which is very large and worth a visit itself. The nightclub is very popular throughout the week, and has a games arcade upstairs. The music is pop, top-40, rock classics, anything that gets the crowd singing and dancing. However you might find the pub to have a younger audience, and I have heard the place being referred to as "the Crèche". But don't get hung up on this, go in and have a good time!

Entry is all very well managed and you then go through a crude courtyard where all the smokers are penned in. On entry the place was full but comfortable to move around in. Decor is Devil based and very well done. 4 bars and 2 dance floors so getting drink and a space for a boogie is no problem (not that dancing is my thing!). My kind of music, more dance remix than main stream. Seems to be the only decent club for miles around and have regular Big DJ's and promote also on the national Irish radio. Overall I'd go back.

When you go in, a man frisks you, paying particular attention to your hips and ankles but not really the rest of you, so you could have two shoulders in your back pockets and not necessarily get caught. It was a tenner in (on account of their monopoly, I daresay), and once inside the door, the place was not dissimilar to the upstairs of that pub on Parnell St, the closest one to O'Connell St where they have all the gigs, you know the one I'm talking about. Anyhow, this left us the teeniest bit disappointed, as we were in the humour for a proper nightclub rather than a live music venue (though the band that were playing were a very serviceable covers band). We stood around for a couple of minutes until one my friends discovered a the nightclub proper, which the owners had for some reason contrived to hide away in the back. Maybe so you'll be pleasantly surprised to stumble across it as we were, who knows? The nightclub was contained on one level, but was really big for that. I have no recollection of what the music was like, but i do remember that there was one really aggressive short guy, and that the bouncers were all enormous men in tuxedos. And the women: who'd have thought that the Co. Offaly was home to so many fine young ladies? So, all in all, The Core made for an offaly good night (couldn't resist, sorry). The Boom Boom Room, that's the place on Parnell St that I was trying to think of. So yeah, just inside the entrance of The Core is like the Boom Boom Room, though that seems like somewhat of a moot point now.
