When they submitted the insurance claims to Humana they billed for 7 different x-rays and for oral hygiene instructions. They didn't do any of those. The only thing they did was the prophylaxis. When Humana got the claims, they denied everything as the new dentist is "out of network". Shouldn't they have known this and done something to get him in network? When I went to the office to get this fixed, they were of no help. So I decided to switch to a different dentist.

I am writing to formally document my concerns regarding the treatment I recently received at the…read moreRoanoke Ideal Dental Office. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely distressing and traumatic, and I believe several aspects of the treatment I received raise serious concerns regarding patient care, communication, professionalism, and the overall quality of the procedure. I have been receiving dental crowns for more than 23 years and have undergone numerous dental procedures throughout my life. I have never experienced anything comparable to what occurred during this most recent visit. One of my longstanding concerns with this particular dentist has been the manner in which he administers injections. In my previous experiences with him, he has not used topical numbing gel prior to administering injections, despite this being normal procedure. During this most recent crown appointment, I could hear another patient immediately next to me experiencing significant pain and discomfort while undergoing what appeared to be the same procedure. The dentist similarly did not use topical numbing gel before administering their injections. Based on my repeated experiences at this office, I am concerned that the lack of attention to patient comfort may be related to the dentist being rushed and overwhelmed by the number of patients being treated. This office is frequently running approximately an hour behind schedule, and that appeared to be the case during this appointment as well. I was also very concerned about the dental assistant assigned to my procedure. She appeared unfamiliar with several aspects of the procedure and repeatedly had to ask the dentist and another dental assistant questions regarding how to perform the necessary scans and steps associated with placing and evaluating the crown. During the procedure, she also became distracted by casual conversation, which appeared to frustrate the dentist. He expressed irritation because the office was already significantly behind schedule and he appeared eager to move on to the next patient. These circumstances caused me to question whether sufficient time, attention, and care were being devoted to my procedure. After the crown was placed, a bitewing/X-ray was performed. However, given the subsequent events, I am concerned that the crown was not properly evaluated or positioned before the procedure progressed. The dentist then placed the crown in my mouth with what appeared to be an excessive amount of cement. This affected the setting and positioning of the crown. When he subsequently attempted to remove the crown, I felt that an excessive amount of force was used. He attempted to remove the crown using a dental instrument in a manner that was extremely forceful and, in the process, injured and busted my lip.

I had a very disappointing experience with this dental office. Before my appointment, I…read morespecifically called to confirm that my insurance was accepted and that the cleaning would be covered. I was told yes. At the appointment, the cleaning felt rushed and unusual. It lasted about 20 minutes and no standard cleaning tools were used, which was concerning. After that, the dentist told me I had 10 cavities and immediately asked if I wanted to fill all of them. This was shocking and did not seem realistic, especially since I've had no pain and no major dental issues previously. To make matters worse, I later received a bill because my insurance supposedly did not cover some of the technology they used, despite the fact that I explicitly asked for a covered cleaning ahead of time. Had I been told otherwise, I would have made a different decision. Overall, this experience felt misleading and unprofessional. I would strongly recommend asking very detailed questions and getting everything in writing before proceeding with treatment here.

Although, I will not be coming back I gave them 2 additional stars for the effort.

Summit justified the high cost bc each tooth was a 4 surface level cavity. Fast forward 5 months later - we discovered one cavity wasn't filled properly. It had to be completely removed and redone by another dentist because there was decay still left behind. Not only that, but the repair was a 2 surface repair. How does a cavity go from 4 surface level to 2 surface level? Hmm .. Our new dentist told me he has never heard of a 4 surface level cavity in his 30 years and removed and correctly filled the tooth for less than $200 - which is a typical cash pay price we learned. We asked summit for a refund for the 1 cavity (fair considering our child didn't feel comfortable going back) and they refused and stopped responding completely. Very disappointed that they would take advantage like this. If you're going to charge double the norm and inflate the severity of the cavity - at least fill it properly.
