Family owned, Minges is like travelling back to the time when I'd go to the feedstore with my dad. Housed in a mid-19th century stone foundation barn, the store is stocked with all your gardening, farming and pet necessities. Early in the season for this trip over the weekend, I bought a flat of pansies and violas, like I do each spring, and some seed potatoes (Irish Cobbler). They are far cheaper than any Lowe's or Home Depot at $1.78 per 3 pack of annuals, and far better quality. There is a resident mouser, always willing to greet customers at the counter, and the cool stone room, a respite in the humid days of summer, houses a good selection of high quality pet food, bulk dog treats, a wide variety of bird seeds and feeders, garden seed in bulk, seed potatoes, onion sets and other garden treasures displayed in original wooden bins. Outside, you'll find trellises, tomato cages, cement yard ornaments and bird baths, too. When I find a space that needs a tree or a perennial bush, like an oak leaf hydrangea, I trust Minges because they offer a year guarantee on anything they sell. The prices are in line with any other garden supply store and big box home chain, but to my knowledge, I've never been given a guarantee by those places. Not that it matters, I've never needed it--each tree and shrub I've purchased from Minges always exceeds my expectations. Additionally, they have a nice little walk back by a log cabin and a set of barns that houses some farm animals and even a domesticated deer for the kiddo's. Mine was asleep, otherwise we would have walked through, it was such a lovely day!

Customer service was horrible, with the exception of two employees…read more Example we were back where the chicken feed was and my wife had a question about some feed there was a guy that was talking to a young lady and he made eye contact with me but never acknowledge me or said I'll be with you in a minute. So we waited he followed the woman to the middle of the aisle and had a personal conversation while we needed help he looked at me a second time and I made eye contact and he didn't do anything so we got what we thought we needed and left the aisle. One of the two cashiers was very cold the other one was really nice. One of the other employees helped us with a humidifier, she was extremely nice and helpful with it. We do like the store however,it's a very cold place to shop, we will not go there unless we absolutely have to, we wil head down to Tractor Supply where we by the way were greeted when we came in the door. I rarely give a bad review but this was our second visit and the same unwelcome reception.

They have two counters where you can make your own candle scent. It is so fun!!!! You tell them six scents you like and pick a container. They all cost about $25 for a medium sized candle. Then mix away. The counter hosts offer support during the whole process. Wax is poured and you label. Two hours later you can return to pick up the set candle. My kid mixed mango, orange and lavender- I am shocked by the amazing scent!!!! It's FIRE!!!! Party space is available and they sell a variety of personal items or premade candles also. GREAT fun family or girls outting.

When we pulled in the owner immediately asked us what he could help with and what we were looking for. He took us around and showed us different sizes of the plant I wanted and knew SO much about the plants he had. He and his wife have been taking care of this nursery for over 51 years and it shows! Carl and Rhonda were such a help and so nice. I would absolutely recommend taking a visit for any of your plant or landscape needs. With other 80 acres they really have anything you could need.

On a recent trip to nearby…read moreFernald Preserve for their Monarch Butterfly Trail Exhibit I learned that Adopt-A-Plant Greenhouses was generously providing free milkweed plants to Fernald visitors to create mini butterfly/pollinator gardens at home. Expecting to just walk in and grab my free plant, I was instead surprised by a beautiful and thoughtful nursery and ended up wandering around forever and buying up a bunch of plants. This place is magical and super peaceful. The greenhouses are laid out in a way that makes sense and with little educational markers. My favorite was the large selection of very fragrant herbs which I raided. Soooo many varieties. A children's play area and fairy garden section makes this a kid friendly visit. Love the eco-friendly focus and the community mindedness of this business!
