Improper salesmanship, tried to charge double the price of the part on top of a pick up fee. His pick up fee was more than the actual part(part was a radiator). Plus labor and it came out to an outrageous price; nonnegotiable. After countless phone calls he failed to mention any additional fees. Please do your research, call your closest parts store to get an estimate on parts. I wouldnt mind paying a reasonable price to help out a local business. However, he got really aggressive and started cursing when we asked if theres anything he could do on the price. Extremely disappointed on the business owner. Furthermore, he didnt seem knowledgeable in the mechanical field. Maybe thats why his price was FAR OFF! I would give this place less than 1 star. read more

Alternator went out went too three places and the all said go to Baker Auto so I pulled up and they where friendly and diagnose my truck and quote a cheap price that I replied I'll pay extra for great service and that's what I got fixed it in three hours, drove us to Denny's to eat as we waited and was fixed on time with no issues I wished these gentleman and business was in Seattle Washington because these are what great Auto repair shops are made of!!!!! My wife and I were driving home to L.A. from Vegas when my car just died on the way up the grade south of the inspection station. Translation: Middle of nowhere. On a Sunday morning. I called the number and spoke directly to Mark, who was in Barstow picking up parts and he told me he'd be back and open at 11, so we had the car towed there (at 35 miles it was the closest mechanic). At 10:59 Mark showed up, started checking out my motor within minutes, and knew quickly that it was a recall problem with Kia's that he'd dealt with many times before, which requires a new engine. He gave us a number of options to get us and the car home without going bankrupt. We opted to tow all the way home and Mark has been helping me on the phone to deal with Kia on getting the recall issue handled. Way above and beyond. The guy is an honest broker and takes care of people. read more

We were halfway up this nasty hill towing a 21' trailer bout 11 miles north of Baker and the coolant seemed to leak in the temperature gage hit the maximum. We immediately stopped the vehicle on the side of the road at the exit. We saw the good reviews on yelp for Baker auto and had AAA tow the SUV to their shop. Very honest and professional mechanics that diagnosed the problem and fixed it in an efficient and simple manner. Great job to this shop! I was broke down on the side of I-15 with a flat tire in desperate need of assistance. Listed hours state they are open 24 hours but did not answer several calls between 8am and 9am and never returned phone messages. After a company came and put the spare tire on they referred me to this business to replace several of my tires. Had to stop here when my C230 was saying it needed coolant. These guys could have had me over a barrel! They checked under the hood and told me that I could make it home to Vegas(& I did!) on what I had in the reservoir, instead of selling me the expensive Benz specific coolant I need for the car. -even though they had it in stock!! Our camper van broke down in the middle of the Mojave Desert and we were towed to baker auto repair. Marc was very helpful and diagnosed the issue as soon as we arrived (around 8pm.) My serpentine belt snapped and my idler pulley seized up about 30 miles out of baker. I called baker auto and Brendan had me send him a picture of my engine to be 100% certain he had the correct parts and knew which pulley to replace and see if he had in stock. He was amazing and super helpful. AAA towed me to baker and dropped me off. I was back on the freeway in 20 minutes because of how fast and experienced he is. I also thought his pricing was more than reasonable. It was $300 in total but for having the parts on hand and being back on the road as quick as I was is definitely worth it as I was on a long drive from Salt Lake City to Riverside. Can't recommend baker auto enough. If he was in Salt Lake City, he would be my go to mechanic. read more

I had a great experience with Mark ( the other mechanic wasn't there that day but I am sure he is great too) after our car broke down. He was able to diagnose a problem that many other mechanics missed (including Nissan) and knew about a recall on my car no one had ever mentioned. In addition, he is just about the nicest person I've ever met and truly a savior in the middle of the desert. The whole time we were there he continued to get calls and help people get to his station. We lucked out finding him and AAA didn't even mention him so thank god we briefly had internet and could check for ourselves. We felt that we met an angel in the middle of California desert. Our car engine was over heated with the steam coming out on I-15 and we were able to drive another 10 miles or so just to get to this auto mechanic shop. On our way from Las Vegas to LA with my 6 year old and scarce cell phone reception on I-15, we were scared. When we were told that our car might have to be towed to Mazda Dealer in Las Vegas or Victorville which are both more than 1 hour away, we accepted that it was a bad day and there's nothing we can do. The owner showed up and with much experience, he diagnosed the problem well. He told is that someone had put an engine oil to the coolant and that has clogged the radiator causing it to overheat. He drained the oil by letting the engine run while having a funnel with coolant being added. We saw the oil surface above the coolant slowly over time. We test drove the area a while and thought it would be safe to drive to home. Wow! What a grace that he had an auto mechanic shop near Mojave Desert and we found him! Thank you and thank you for saving our day. To top it off, he even called us an hour later to make sure that we are safe. We are super grateful! read more

I was driving to Las Vegas with my niece in the car when it began making a terrible noise. We pulled over and couldn't find anything so we drove a a small way into Baker and had our car checked out by Mark. We had had a bad oil change and the oil pan had half fallen off and was causing all the noise. Mark took it off for us and had us back on the road in 20 minutes. I was so grateful for the quick service as we were meeting some people in Vegas, as well as for not making my niece and I wait in the sweltering heat for hours. He was honest and fair in his pricing and every time we drive by Baker now we send a wave to Baker Auto. Even though we hope to never have to need a mechanic on the drive to and from Vegas again, at least we know a great place to go if we ever need help again. read more

I was on a three day desert camping trip and burned up a spark plug wire causing my truck to run on 7 cylinders (very rough). I stopped by and Brendon was great, he looked for a part for me, while not a parts store and found a wire that would work for my truck along with another spare. My 19 year old daughter and a friend broke down on the 15 fwy on their way home to Wrightwood from Vegas. They were passed baker but still far from Barstow. AAA towed them to baker auto. He had her sign a paper for an estimate of $94.50 before he even popped her hood to check what was wrong. Even if she would have NOT had them do any work, she would have had to pay almost $100 just for him to tell her what was wrong with the car. She ended up needing a coil replaced. He did drive them to Denny's to wait while they got the part and fixed her car. The mechanic had to drive to Barstow to get the part for the car. The total was $379.73 for a coil to be replaced. She called me crying because she asked if she could pay partial on debit card and the rest on a credit card because she didn't have enough in her account to cover the whole cost. He told her no. Why??? My mother in law had to put money in her account so she would be able to only use her debit card. I called baker auto to ask some questions because I was worried about my teenage daughter being stuck in baker with a friend! (2 young girls) I told him that it was ridiculous that he charged her $94.50 before he even opened her hood. I was upset and worried about my daughter and the guy I talked to was rude to me. My daughter had no idea that I called baker auto. After her car was fixed, he picked the girls up and was mocking me to my daughter and treating her like crap because I (her mother) called him! THATS MORE RIDICULOUS THAN WHAT HE CHARGED FOR THE 20 MINUTES IT TOOK TO REPLACE THE COIL. And I believe I spoke to the owner. I'm sorry that they have to live in Baker, but that doesn't give them the right to treat my 19 year old daughter like crap. And overcharge her because she's a young girl. read more
