Small, friendly and lovely good, wholesome food if somewhat dated. A good stop for a lunch. Try the homemade flapjacks - to die for!

Walking upstairs we had luckily booked a table. It was chaotic ,full of screaming kids playing frisbee with the saucers and knocking teacups off the table. Cautiously I sat down avoiding this kid with sticky mitts behind me. The waitress came swiftly to take our order. The menu consists of some indulgent £4 hot chocs, cakes, sandwiches and well.. chocolate. I did consider the chilli but for 12 quid you can purchase a tea for one. This combined a hot choc/ drink of your choice, toasted sandwich , scone and some chocolate. I chose the ameretto white hot chocolate which turned out quite sickly. Then eventually the food arrived. Most of us had selected tuna melt or ham and cheese apart from one veggie.. so when the tuna arrived dripping all over the veggie sandwich she was not amused. We got this swapped. The tiered trays were intimidating so I just ate half a sandwich to make room for the scone and chocolate. The scone was nice the choclate was too experimental and sweet for me.. especially the honey choc. Also i Never saw any waitresses again..it was like tetris trying to balance all the plates and I really needed a drink . The noise level was high and the decor was that of a soup kitchen.. In the end we just went downstairs to pay. Needless to say I won't be back. I do what to try the Mousetrap instead?

We drove past this lovely place on the way to Blackburn over the Grane rd, after a shopping trip at Winfields of Haslingdon. We noticed the tea rooms in a church that was also antiques sales room. We decided to go in and the first thing we noticed was the car park was full. This is always a good sign, luckily someone was leaving and we had a space. As we entered the tearooms, people were being turned away as there was not enough seating (group of 6). Luckily there was only two of us and we found somewhere to sit right away. The place was packed and had a good atmosphere, we had to wait ten minutes to be served by the very friendly and extremely busy waitress. There were newspapers and magazines to read, the toilets were very clean, no hot water though and when it's minus 2 outside, it's a bit painful washing hands. Our coffee arrived first, as it should, but in many places seems to get delivered with the meal. It was very good coffee in a cafetiere, with cream, no fancy biscuits (which usually bump up the price of coffee). Big coffee cups and we got two cups each out of it. While we drank our coffee and warmed up, we noticed the side of the church and how the extension was built to emphasise the beauty of this old building. The whole place was kitted out very nice, with quality furnishings and a proper big Italian coffee machine behind the counter. Soon enough food arrived. I had ordered the Bowdens Steak muffin and chips and my wife had the mixed platter which included onion rings, chicken goujons, garlic mushrooms, salad and potato wedges. The steak muffin was absolutely fab, the meat was cook perfectly and melted in my mouth, the muffin was a very soft and tasty White flour bap. With the caramalised onions it made me smile for the rest of the day. Homemade Chips and a very thoughtful salad with very fresh and crisp ingredients. See pictures. Sorry, I didn't take one of outside, if the next Qyper could do that please, thanks! The platter was just as good, Jane let me have a few nibbles and I was thinking of ordering more, but the steak had me beat. Without shadow of a doubt, it was the best rump steak buttie I've ever had. The cakes looked amazing, but I was stuffed, so that didn't happen. I will go out of my way to come here again. Thanks to the staff for doing a great job and whoever they had preparing the food is someone who loves their work and should be proud. If you are nearby, go in, do it now and get stuffed! Heartly recommend by Chris Doc Strange!

Pot came and huge piece chipped off the rim - sent it back politely stressing quietly and pleasantly to the nice waitress girl that I wasted a fresh pot of tea in a fresh pot . Replacement pot arrived after teacake (no problem with that) and this one too had a huge chip and crack in the rim. The second waitress after me signalling to her that to come over shouts across the shop at me "What?" like somebody from Jeremy Kyle expecting me to reciprocate in hollering back when there are other people in the shop. I said "I am not going to shout at you i at the other end of the shop..." She shuffled over like a reluctant errant schoolgirl - making me feel rather uncomfortable and asked what the issue was When I told her she said "And...?" So I asked her that is she aware that this is not acceptable and can carry germs and would she drink out of it (rhetorically) and she grimaced in that insulting juvenile way and said "Yeah!" She took it away to replace it a third time at which point I aborted the whole operation and put my coat on and walked towards the counter saying to the two girls "it's ok Forget it! How much do I owe you ?" despite the fact I had neither eaten nor drunk anything I ordered. A women sat on a table by the wall chatting the whole time to another woman turned to em and said that it was ok and gesticulated for me to leave like one would do to shoo a dog away from the sofa. I asked if she was a member of staff and shockingly she replied she was the owner. I was flabbergasted that she had witnessed the whole series of events, mistakes, poor service, rudeness, poor hygeine, disrespectful language and tone and then capped it all off by implying I had been anything other than the consummate gentleman and possibly least demanding customer ever. No apology just several waves of the arm a la 'talk-to-the-hand' etc. I have never been so insulted in an establishment in my life. Lesser gentlemanly and stoical punters than myself would have refused to pay and just walked out. I am rather astounded as to exactly why this woman and her staff decided to work in customer facing catering business in the first place/ This sort of blatant ignorance and customer abuse is becoming an endemic characteristic of British service culture. One also wonders whether they will dispose of those pots immediately to the refuse or whether they continue to serve in them - and if so what are their other utensils, tools and general behind-the-scenes hygeine like. Ignorant Abusive Unworthy Unapologetic Business ignorant and ultimately out-of-business one would wager/hope

We were greeted warmly and shown to our reserved table which consisted of a squishy sofa with a low coffee table. We did ask if we could be seated elsewhere as it seemed impractical to eat food there . Graciously we were taken to the back with high tables much better! The food is fantastic if you love cheese (as the place name suggests) meat, and nibbles. There were a few starters or for £15 each you could choose a platter with x2 cheeses of your choice. We ordered ours separately as my fella isn't a stinky cheese fan haha While we waited (which was a while) I was served a tasty zombie cocktail and himself a tasty flat white. The platter looked great when it eventually landed. Homemade pork pie, scotch egg, chicken, beef, Italian meats, various fruit, olives, crackers and bread .oh and the cheese. It was all beautifully presented and tasted excellent . The malbec served was also gorgeous. Overall it was a nice experience, cosy, lovely staff and food with quirky mouse artwork. Only thing I would suggest is the type of seating as another couple walked in and asked the same thing aka to be moved from a non squishy sofa to eat and the service a little slow but will be back for sure

I popped in here to catch up with an old school friend and we only wanted a light snack, so I got the 'nibble' cheese platter which was around £6.95 if I remember correctly and comes with a coffee or tea. The big platters are around £12 so I didn't expect to get much cheese- I had a choice of three from the deli counter. Went for a French Brie, creamy blue Brie and this incredible horseradish cheese, which is really tasty if you like horseradish. They brought loads- for just over £6 it was an amazing deal and plenty for one person. The platter came with a stack of crackers, chutney, grapes- it was a steal! My friend Holly had the coffee and cake option. It was insanely good value for money! The decor is a bit simple and basic but the staff are fantastic and the cheese top notch. I believe they have a BYOB system so you can bring your own wine to have with the cheese!!
