Baildon has gone up in the world! This shiny new deli and tearooms is a glorious, scrumptious,…read morestylish and very, very welcome addition to Baildon village. It has been over two years in the planning, as it is in a building that had been lying empty for years and getting hold of it took a while. But the owner has been planning it for all that time and it really shows. Everything from the vintage restored furniture, to the individually sourced picquot ware teapots has been lovingly put in place to great effect. The tea is fantastic, the coffee is spot on and their range of deli food and groceries is impressive. They've been open two weeks, so the menu is growing and they are just finding their feet, but their delicious homemade cakes and food have sold out most days and the place has been buzzing every time I've popped in. Their upstairs tearoom is delightful. Why not pop in for afternoon tea, read the papers... before crossing the road to Emma to buy a beautiful bunch of flowers and put you squarely in somebodies good books! Baildon moor is less than 10 minutes walk away, as is the golf course. This place is a very hot tip - well worth a visit.

Currently eating my takeaway sandwich and its so yummy! I'm not going to delete my original post because I want to share how much of a convert I am! August 2010-To be honest I went to pickles with a positive attitude. I've been told about the cheeses and deli counter etc which is something I that I feel Baildon has been missing. I decided to eat in and ordered the Pitta and Houmous light bite as I thought this would be quick and I didn't have much time to spare. This overpriced dish took nearly 30 minutes to prepare coming to my table with the tiniest pot of houmous and one and a half pittas. Oh and there was also the salad garnish which came with added salmon flakes from a different dish. Food contamination? The decor of the place is shabby chic which I feel works well within the venue but the waitresses (which by the way there are far too many) dress was scruffy and their attitude was unorganised and blasé. The only good thing about the lunch was the carrot cake. Personally, I'll stick to some of the better cafes Baildon has to offer.

We timed it so that we had another opportunity to enjoy a browse in the upstairs vintage room, which was perfect as they were just clearing some tables, so we got a good fifteen minute look around before seating became available. Yet again there was a hoard of gems that tempted me, one being a gorgeous fifties dress that was delightfully displayed on the mannequin, the others being a host of tempting hats fit for Ascott. I had a little try, the dress sadly being a few sizes too large, but the hat was a total win so I brought that down with me ready to buy. We were seated and greeted in a lovely manner and perused the vintage style menu, it being printed and pasted in an old book (nice touch) and we chose our food. My friend opted for the soup of the day - which on arrival was a huge delicious bowl of soup, and I opted for the ham and cheese sandwich. It came with a small offering of salad, and although at first glance I was a little miffed at the size, it turns out my eyes are too big for my stomach as it was the perfect amount. Whilst is wasn't gourmet it was perfectly yummy. As is standard, I was too tempted by the cream cakes, and so stuffed myself with a sweet dessert for afters. It was lovely, light and the cream was delicious! I love my cakes. Topped off with a nice coffee it was the perfect afternoon snack and we left feeling satiated but not over full. My only regret is that I didn't have a cup of tea instead, so as to utilise the delightful tea cups that adorn each table. A lovely spot in Shipley for a glamorous and vintage light lunch!

We had the cream tea which is brilliant value for £10 and more than you can eat. But we didn't need to ask if we could take the cakes home. All bread is made by the cafe as are the cakes and scones etc. Lovely atmosphere too and a bell on your table if you need to get the attention of the waitress (who was also the owner). No surprise this place has been going for 10 years. Long may it continue.
