As I'd not been here in ages, we decided to seek out some delectable sustenance here, as that is precisely what I got my friends. I had heard tell these guys do a mean burger, and since I've been banging on about seeking out Leeds' best it seemed only fair to tackle that for lunch. Oh. My. Word. After an enticing wait the food arrived and what lay before me was some kind of demi-god, as far as patties go. A beautifully baked sesame seed bun, with all the fluffy, crispy, freshness you could hope for in a bread cake. The accoutrements included a wonderfully fresh bit of salad, perfectly melted cheddar, and a delightful home made piccalilli. The meat? Seasoned to perfection, juicier than I've known, and cooked like a dream. Slightly pink, like a real burger should be, and a right ruddy messy affair. I was in heaven. Of course, you know all about their award winning cupcakes by now, so I needn't wax lyrical about the white chocolate as raspberry nirvana that I polished off at home, but what you probably didn't know is that I've found a contender for one of Leeds' finest burgers. As soon as I heard about it I just knew I had to check it out ASAP! I have both the requisite sweet tooth and and a love of all things kitsch and vintage-inspired. Hence I LOVE The Sunshine Bakery! The outside of the shop is painted a sumptuous deep plum colour and the sign features gold, hand-painted lettering with a quaint feel. Inside the walls are covered in oh-so-vintage pink flocked wall paper...but to be honest that's not exactly what your eyes are drawn to with all the tasty treats on display! Anyone with a particular predilection for sweetmeats will be literally drooling all over the shop! The cupcakes cry 'EAT ME' with their generous helpings of many-coloured icing and array of flavours. There are also such delights as champagne truffles, as well as slightly less exciting (though very delicious I'm sure) savoury items including sandwiches and soups as well as tea and coffee. There is a lovely atmosphere at The Sunshine Bakery, with friendly, smiling staff, and the customers seeming very happy to be there and oh so close to their next cupcake fix! I also opted for Eton Mess...it was absolutely delicious! If you live in Chapel Allerton you may find yourself trying desperately to avoid the temptation to visit the Sunshine Bakery daily...luckily for my health I live a reasonably long bike ride away...however, the exercise required to get there will probably just allow me to justify a rampant gorge-fest upon arrival! This place is a little family run bakery, which is obviously very popular, and is just a little way off the centre (as it were) of Pudsey. It's not difficult to see why they are so coveted, as soon as you go in you are greeted by a super friendly team (I assumed a husband and wife team, but can't be 100% sure) ready to help you. I went in to browse and found myself instantly attracted to their lovely looking home-made preserves sets. The gentleman asked me if I was ok, which I was, and then apologised for having to turn on his mixer for a moment! It was lovely, and really wasn't a problem. As I had wandered in around 3pm ish the shelves were looking rather bare - the sign of a great bakers - and so I wandered to the glass counter at the front. I didn't want to walk out without something tasty. In the end I settled for a beautiful heart shaped chocolate brownie, complete with raspberry in the centre, for my boyfriend. It was going to be Valentine's day after all! I'm told that it was delicious, so I'm glad I made that choice. I bought a set of six mini breakfast jams as well, for a friend, and they were totally bargainous. I won't say exactly how bargainous, lest she discover how much I spent, though with any luck it'll be the gesture that counts! All in all this is a delightful place to purchase breads, jams, cakes and any other home made goodies. Just get in early to avoid disappointment!

We spoke to the baker and he told us it was all part of the same business, the bakers and the cheese shop and the bakery had outgrown the building and was soon to be moving a mile or two up the road. Anyhow, we walked through the front door and were amazed at the wonderful display of freshly baked breads available to buy. From super open textured, crunchy baguettes to heavy sourdough and super soft farmhouse loaves, stilton and walnut bread, oily foccaccia and on and on. There was also a small selection of sweets such as really nutty brownies, pain au chocolat and danish. Everything looked so good, it took us forever to narrow down our choices. We ended up buying four loaves of bread and two cakes. All were beautiful and very tasty which is a big lack in most of today's crappy supermarket breads which people have become accustomed. My favourite was the baguette, it really was out of this world. The breads were a little pricey but WELL worth it. And the place is definetly worth a visit!

I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). The Assam and black teas we're very good. The floral variety on the mild side. And the green and white teas, very mild necessitating lots of extra steeping time.

I swear, I really am 23 and not 2. I just HAD to go in and buy one...or two....nah I'm lying I bought four! Not all for me (sadly) the boyfriend, Mum & Dad all got treated to a delicious smiley starfish. Even my boyfriend (who likes to be a man's man...bless him) bought 4 baby strawberry cheesecake cakes to impress his parents at dinner that evening. The cakes were divine and as always, the service was faultless. The polite, efficient and friendly staff really are a credit to this charming tea room.
