Unfortunately, as my house was getting close to completion, I flew in to meet in person to work on the kitchen project and they quoted me $66k now. I understand prices are increasing during the pandemic but not nearly triple. It looks like on top of the price increases, they may have counted the wrong number of cabinets needed for the project. I tried to work with them cause I wanted it to work out but ultimately, I would have had to make too many sacrifices to fit the budget such as not doing some upper cabinets and doing open shelving instead. In making these edits, they could get it down to $45k, still double the original quote and with too many sacrifices. If I calculate cabinets, counters, GC work, etc, the kitchen would be well over $100k. For that price, you should just go with a fully custom kitchen company. If I wasn't building a new house, building out a big pool and deck and all these other incredibly expensive projects, I would have liked to go with UB, but their pricing was more than I think I'd worth for semi custom

My wish after retiring from my job was to make the kitchen more functional and was hoping to have it done for Thanksgiving 2012 , but had to put it off for 2013. In late Feb 2013 Joe got in touch with me and proceeded with the job, he told me it would take 6 weeks to get the job done which was a little hard for me to take he directed us on the type of granite suitable for our countertops and matching to our color of our cabinets. Hector and his crew came in Monday morning pulled out the old cabinets without any problems, cleaned up their mess followed by Jason Hayes and his crew (contractor) who did a magnificent job including scraping popcorn-ceiling in kitchen, dining and living room, all the electrical and plumbing and did a fantastic job on the intriguing backsplash and lighting especially the under cabinets light and even stayed later to get everything done on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. In return, he will hand you a set of materials (literally on a plate) that his team spent at least half an hour conceptualizing and browsing the CB2 catalog. Oh, forget about your taste or aesthetics. As a paying client, your input doesn't matter b/c he will tell you what looks good. All professionals from engineers to architects will bill you according to work complete, Joel wants 50% advance. His hourly rates at $200/hr are criminally bogus. The assistant designer is $100/hr but don't ask him b/c he will simply say it that service alone doesn't exist. LONG STORY: we hired Joel for two businesses (worth $50k) but soon realized he was a gloried decorator who had no intention to collaborate with his own clients. Being a visual field, you would think a decorator worth a hundred bucks will at least show you different concepts, color combinations and themes prior to doing any work. That's not how it works here. Without any pre-consultation, he will invite you to his office for a "presentation" on the one set of color scheme and furnishings chosen for you. Plus they will actually show you a picture on a damn phone to give you an impression of how something may look. Just this was priced at half of the $25k. Do you prefer something a little different or have other concerns? Too bad, he won't have any of it b/c the decision is made and he will try to steer you away. Evidently, his team has the taste and experience of browsing Pinterest and opening catalogs to offer you the same chairs and fixture found in other restaurants within a 5 mile radius of downtown Austin. List of think you do not get for $25k: No shop drawing No construction documents Not licensed or certified in anything List of you'll get: Zero input Zero options Zero budget considerations Zero personalized service Vague visual concept for a business costing millions to build In the end, he offered a weak apology about how he was too busy designing for someone else. Guess paying $50k places you at the back of the line. I sincerely believe he tried to take advantage of our lack of understanding and experience. If I didn't fight him and almost threaten legal action, he would have walked away with $50k doing the bare minimum to satisfy any impression of work.

The Bath was completely gutted to the studs and reconstructed, the Kitchen was a complete renovation, but we maintained the basic layout. We replaced countertops, backsplash, all appliances; added a wine refrigerator, a professional type range and a warming draw at the bottom of the oven/microwave wall unit. We had to reconfigure a number of the cabinets to accommodate the additional appliances. We also replaced all cabinet doors and draw fronts, in addition to refinishing the base cabinets and reconfiguring some cabinets into drawers. In addition to being extremely professional in the quality of the construction, Scott was also very helpful in guiding us through the selection of materials. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and he help suggest certain materials and finishes that would achieve my goals. Everything he suggested was spot on. I couldn't be happier. I was also extremely pleased with the quality of subcontractors he utilized. They were all extremely professional and the quality of their work was outstanding. I intend to call Scott soon to renovate our Master Bath.

Dillion Dorsey of James Matthew design is a thief and liar. I paid him around $5200 to help…read moredecorate our new home and buy some furniture. Dillion never finished the job, stole my money, and damaged and stole several items from my home. I ended up paying thousands of dollars more to fix the work Dillion and his "contractor(s)" messed up and/or did not complete. He damaged an original numbered painting and "framed" my father's presidential memorial certificate with painter's tape. He screwed in layers of cardboard for the back of a fireplace. He did not deliver furniture/items that he allegedly ordered. Most of the items he did give me were damaged. Many were never even approved by me, but he refused to remove them. He said he was using them as a "place marker" for the time being. I've caught Dillion lying about furniture and items that he said were ordered and shipped, but the vendors later said that they were not. Caught him lying about his own contractors, whom he said stood us up, but were never scheduled to begin with. In 3.5 months, Dillion never gave me any budget updates and/or receipts, even though I had asked him multiple times. He tells you that he's the only one working hard while his contractors and/or assistant make all the mistakes (he owes them money too). He'll also lie to you about other clients. And when you call him out on his lies, he will act shocked as to how could you ever accuse him of such behavior. I believed his lies, until I spoke with another client. He fed us both similar lies and excuses. He walked out on her project, leaving her with tens of thousands of dollars in damage and additional work.

We live in the Houston area and wanted a Murphy Bed for our guest room and we shopped a number of…read moreretail stores, looked at hundreds of beds on the internet, and never found one we liked. Then I stumbled on Wizards for Hire. In one of his website's archive pictures, he had the ONLY bed we liked. I reached out through the contact form on the website and heard back from Stephen Cruser, who prefers being called simply "Cruser." Cruser answered all of my questions so we decided to buy simply from the picture without seeing the product in person He sent me an invoice to pay half up front, and the other half after the bed was delivered and installed. He sent me an invoice, and I paid the upfront amount by credit card (I figured I was safe with credit card protection, so I felt I had little to lose). From time of order, until installation, the timing was about 7 weeks. When it was all said and done, Cruser answered all of my questions and he built us a custom KING SIZE Murphy Bed with bookcases on each side, with side drawers that serve as nightstands and in power and USB plugs on each side bookcase. He also installed lights that shine down on the pillow area when you are in bed, that turn on/off and dim with a remote control (you can read while in bed and turn the lights on and off without having to get up). He also let us pick out our cabinet hardware and paint color. An added bonus, the compression shocks that help offset the weight of the bed when opening and closing, and the Murphy Bed hardware he uses has a LIFETIME GUARANTEE! Cruser showed up promptly this morning to install our bed. He arrived with bookcases that were assembled, and all other wood panels and other trim arrived in separate pieces and painted to the color of our choice (we picked out in advance). He began putting the bed together and installing the bed and spent more than 4 HOURS assembling and installing the bed. When it was all said and done and we saw it fully installed, my wife, who was reluctant to buy a Murphy Bed from the onset, summed it up in one word: "AMAZING!" He told me, he has built MORE THAN 1000 MURPHY BEDS and has delivered and installed them as far as MAINE! Cruser did a wonderful job, our bed is beautiful! We give Cruser a resounding 5 STAR RATING and we could not be happier with our choice! We are now raving fans and would wholeheartedly recommend you contact Cruser if you want a MURPHY Bed.
