Portrait Coffee was pretty packed with steady traffic when I arrived around 12:30pm on a Tuesday…read more Most of the tables near the front were full but there were still a few open seats at the community style table in the back. I didn't see any pastries in the display case so if you want food you probably need to get there early. They do offer seasonal flavor specials so I went with the black sesame latte with oat milk ($6.75). The service was friendly! My drink came out much faster than expected, no complaints at all, I was just surprised in a good way. The coffee was smooth with zero bitter taste and the black sesame provided a rich creamy flavor (don't forget to stir your drink so you get the full profile). Parking was easy as well; they have a free lot right next to the building with and it was packed but still had several open spots. Before leaving I noticed their selection of retail coffee beans, including a special Atlien (Outkast) roast that they have right now. Definitely check them out and support this small business.

The coffee has been pretty okay (although I did get a burnt espresso once), but my biggest issue has consistently been the interactions with staff. I'm a SIMPLE person. I don't need much, and I'm generally pretty easy to please. But I don't do rude. I had one of the worst interactions I've ever experienced at a food service establishment here. I walked in with a smile and kindly asked if I could order a quad shot of espresso over ice with oat milk. I also politely asked about the syrups on the menu. Rather than answering my question, an employee who told me her name was Elizabeth responded in what I can only describe as a weirdly mocking, condescending tone: "So you want an Aunt Viv?" Mind you, I've had the Aunt Viv before. It seems to be their bestseller for good reason. It's delicious! But that's not what I asked for. When I politely clarified, "Um, no, I'd just like shots over ice. Is that okay?" I was met with even more attitude and an annoyed response. So, I guess I got an Aunt Viv? Which, ironically, wasn't even good this time. Not sure what happened there, but I left with a drink I didn't order and a pretty bad impression. I know people have bad days, as I've worked in service positions, but it was genuinely so uncomfortable. I would've happily taken a recommendation or even an explanation of how my order compared to something already on the menu. What I didn't appreciate was being made to feel stupid for asking a pretty straightforward question that no other coffee shop has ever had an issue answering or accommodating! I love supporting neighborhood coffee shops, especially in the West End, but good coffee doesn't excuse poor customer service. I'm not expecting anyone to roll out the red carpet. Just basic kindness and professionalism. It's really not that difficult. :)

I love this place and stop by anytime I'm in Atlanta. It not only has amazing coffee, but it is a hub for community and I love that. Many groups meet there and they used to even have chess for kids. Now to the je good stuff. The coffee and matcha are very good. Nice balance of espresso and flavor. Service is amazing and friendly. It's almost like Cheers - where everyone knows your name. The owners are hands on and cultivate a family spirit. The whole place is a vibe- chill and friendly. A great place to meet friends or just get some work done.

The young, fabulous team always greets you with a smile, even early in the morning. Their customer service is top-notch, and the vibe is full of positive energy. Paying homage to how the menu features clever, creative names (The Marathon) representing Black artists, so thoughtful and inspiring. Great selection of teas, coffees, small bites (Lox and Bagel/Grilled Cheese) and grab-n-go items. My preference is the craft-made sorrel lemonade, refreshing every time. Great price point for both the students and employees across the AUC. Hoping to see a Vegan bakery/breakfast item added to their menu soon. Fantastic customer service.

I'm very particular about sweetness and usually get frustrated when I ask for less sweet and it still comes out sugary. Not here. The barista actually listened, he added 1.5 pumps, had me taste it before I even left, and made sure it was exactly how I wanted it. That level of care is rare and so appreciated. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and top-tier service. I'll definitely be back!

They've been desperately hiring the past few weeks and seem to be sucking at employee retention. You will probably run into a drugged out homeless person while patronizing this business. The inside is charming but in a grunge way. There's potential but it's just not hitting it these days. They didn't have any of their listed non-dairy milk options nor any bread except for naan (and no bread the second day I came). I've gone in often and they've run out of inventory with no timeline of replenishing. I was able to get a B.E.C. sandwich ONCE in the handful of times I've been here. It was decent and fairly priced, but unavailable the following visits I made. At some point I had to have a sandwich made with no bread because they were out. That was my last time there. Most of the baristas appear to hate working here or simply being on the planet lol. My last visit I was looped into an unwarranted political conversation when just trying to grab a coffee. I get that it's near a college campus so EVERYTHING is made unnecessarily political these days unfortunately, but maybe they should coach their folks to not engage unsuspecting customers in these conversations... literally just prioritize the JOB and the BUSINESS and the customer experience. I don't need or want a lecture on how unbearable you think our country is when I'm just trying to get a drink. It's a horrible business practice to assume ~anyone's~ social/political leaning and I hope we as a society can collectively move into a space where we stop normalizing this behavior. Hope they can pull it together because in theory it is a neighborhood asset. But currently? No bueno.

The staff was extremely warm and welcoming and allowed me to sample a few drinks before purchasing, which was incredibly helpful. I didn't try the food since I'm currently fasting, but from what I observed, the other customers seemed very pleased with their orders. The ambiance is calm, peaceful, and quiet; the perfect place to work remotely, study, write, relax, or simply hang out for a while. I would like if it was just a hair bigger in size, but this is no deal breaker. I'll definitely be adding this spot into my regular rotation for remote work, writing, and relaxing coffee shop vibes. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away and unwind in a peaceful environment.

We ordered a pint, was able to sit down and it so happened that while we were there, a group of people were doing DJ sets so we were able to really chill, enjoy and listen to music which wasn't super loud but added to the chill-ness. We didn't notice until we were leaving that there was other things on the menu such as mocktails so we will be back to try some out! We also brought a growler and filled it up with the Vanilla Coffee Kombucha but they have cans available for take out as well. Overall, dope spot and the kombucha was tasty!
