I have discovered that Swedish does not handle the billing for emergency room Doctors, Physician Assistants, or Nurse Practitioners. The billing service is performed by an unrelated entity called "Seattle Emergency Physicians Services." PROBLEM: I have never received any billing statement or detailed invoice from you; please email both to me. I've already reached my out-of-pocket maximum for 2025, so I shouldn't be responsible for any medical costs related to my emergency room visit. HORRIBLE PATIENT EXPERIENCE Since I have never received any billing from your office, I do not have (1) a client number or (2) an account number when I tried to set up my profile and provide you with my medical insurance information. (See pasted copy of your website below) This is completely unacceptable. Why wasn't my personal and insurance information provided to your office by Swedish Medical? As a responsible person, I have spent countless hours trying to ensure all my medical bills are paid. Swedish Medical provided me with different phone numbers for "Seattle Emergency Physicians Services." I kept calling and was on hold for over an hour each time. I spent three hours at various Swedish Medical facilities (Broadway and Cherry Hill locations), but no one there could help me. I was told again to contact your office. Now, I am on the phone, waiting once more for someone to answer. Swedish Medical and Seattle Emergency Physicians Services should be ashamed! How could a disabled or elderly person navigate this extremely fragmented and poor-quality billing service?

It had a comfortable bed and clean restroom. And the thermostat was controllable (I usually like my room very cold at around 62 degrees or so). The nurses were extremely helpful and I have to give each of them a shout out! Noelle, Derek, and Jessica. I was not planning to be a difficult patient but I felt like I kind of came one unfortunately. I was in extreme pain from time to time and I couldnt always stay chill and cool. The nurses were quick to understand my needs without me having to speak too much or too loudly (I had a bit of trouble with after the surgery). They really went out of their way to help with my specific needs. The food wasn't bad but it just felt like food that used to be served on airplane back in the day. Compared to hospitals like Overlake, VM could really step up in this department! Also the administrative staff seemed a bit confused and disorganized. However, there is one main person (Kristina) that coordinated and resolved all the loose ends for me and she was extremely helpful. Overall, I felt well taken of care of at Virginia Mason and the surgery went well. Huge thanks to Dr. Sternbach and his surgical team. Check out the view from my room!

Even multiple current doctors have confirmed this. Example: My wife and I have been patients at Virginia Mason for 37 years. Just recently my wife's primary care provider pulled back from full-time work. Because she wasn't completely off the payroll, according to the MBAs and accountants, she was not offered an MD, PA, or ARNP as a replacement...only the choice of 1 of 4 residents. We will, with sadness, both be leaving. VIRGINIA MASON IS BROKEN. STAY AWAY!

She has dismissed my concerns in a way that feels irresponsible and un-empathetic. I have since seen two specialists who independently affirmed and addressed my concerns. In my appointment with Katie Hester to have an honest and open conversation with her about my experience she responded to me with "I'm sorry you feel that way" in a dismissive and defensive tone. Seattle Roots has undergone a lot of changes from when it was Country Doctor over the last couple years and I've since had many frustrating experiences with front desk staff being disorganized, uninformed, dismissive and even blatantly rude. I understand the intense strain Covid and the ever-changing state of the health care system has placed on health care providers and clinics over the last few years, but I'm so disheartened and confused by the increasing lack of care at Seattle Roots. I highly urge other patients to research and seek care elsewhere, if they can. I understand there's not a lot of options for low income people.

I called as a prospective patient to ask basic questions about annual skin screenings and insurance referrals. During the call, I was repeatedly placed on hold and given very limited information. When I asked whether mole checks and skin screenings were similar, I was told, "I'm not medically trained to provide that information." When I then asked if there was anyone medically trained I could speak with to clarify what services would be appropriate, I was told, "No, there isn't." The response was brief and offered no additional explanation, which came across as dismissive and made it difficult to determine whether to schedule preventive care. This feedback is not about the doctors, but about communication and patient access. I hope it's helpful for improving the experience for future patients.

Here is Why: 1) I booked 3 weeks in advance, long line to be seen. This is understandable and common though. 2) I arrived 15 min early and filled in the paperwork online prior as well. It took me over an hour and a half to be seen!!! I had to ask the front desk if there was a problem before she called the medical assistant who then promptly came out to see me. 3) The medical staff asked me many of the same questions I filled out online and in paperwork after arrival. They never looked at any of my paperwork prior. Why did I fill out everything twice then?? 4) Although the doctor was very kind, they weren't even able to give me my basic prescription because they have a "blanket rule" not to prescribe my medicine! Now I have to wait another 3 weeks to be seen somewhere else, miss another day of work, and go this entire time without medication in hand. If they have this blanket rule then why schedule me to begin with??? What a waste of time and bad management. Worst experience at a doctor yet... avoid coming here if you can...

Everything is explained in a respectful way. We've been there for colds, viruses, alllllll the Covid tests during the pandemic, broken bones, pneumonia, mental health concerns, and more complicated problems. My old…read moredoc at the Polyclinic, Hatfield, has moved on from general care and is into a more specialized kind of patient, so I opted on using someone else there, Kelly Thompson. In person, she looks nothing like her profile picture on the Polyclinic site; she walked into the exam room with her colorful tattoos and a sundress, and I was immediately more comfortable. Normally my social anxiety around beautiful people would kick in, but she was super personable, and actually listened to me. A mentor of mine once told me that "if you listen to your patients, actually listen, they will give you the keys to the castle". She actually did, and she stated that I needed to get a diagnostic ultrasound, STAT. When that came back negative for what we were looking for, she even sent me back for another. Eventually we determined the diagnosis, and while there is no immediate solution to my issues, the understanding of what is going on with me has reduced my stress levels. Dr. Thompson is the kind of doctor I wish I knew outside of the doctor - patient relationship... wait, that sounds creepy! What i mean to say is that she's a great balance of "human" and "professional", and I'll choose her each time going forward. She seems genuinely interested in her patients, and as a huge bonus to her, loves dogs, not just her own.
