If you haven't been here it's hard to find from Rt 228, but you turn in at Cranberry Springs Dr & the go left up the hill. The complex is across from Firebirds Restaurant. Enter the UPMC side of the building & take elevator to second floor & turn right. Staff always very friendly.

The people who have put a couple bad review in on 2/22/25 are Fulse. The one family member who was an adult was skating erratically and keep falling and making a seen. The lady with the kid on a leash looked normal. This is a roller-skating rink not for people to walk on with a kid on a leash. The review for waiting for skate o well everywhere you have to wait. The girls were helping other on the rink.

I understand "policies" but maybe there could be further consideration for the parents that are required to be there. Skate Castle doesn't charge adult spectators. - Skate floor can get a bit overcrowded - Adults of children/adults skating with their younger children skating around extremely fast at times and others getting run into/knocked down - Concessions are a bit on the higher side ($3.50 for a small slushie) My kids ended up having a blast which offset the higher prices of all the things, but I'm not so sure that we'll be going back here too often.

People were parking in lots of adjacent businesses including the Target which was not a short walk. The cartways are really small and narrow that someone got hit in the lot. Number of handicapped spaces was limited to two which seems low for the carrying capacity of the building. The ramp isn't even close to ADA. The ledge to get in two of the rinks is very high. One not so much but they didn't put the disabled folks on the "low" ledge rink, even when requested for the next day. Not a 5 star rink in my opinion

There is just one sheet of ice, and it is Olympic sized. That means it is larger than an NHL rink. I enjoy watching U16 and older play on the larger ice surface. Unfortunately, at Ice Zone the physical size of the building is not large enough to accommodate the olympic-sized ice AND spectator viewing. As you can see by the pictures, there is just a narrow sliver of area for spectators. There is also viewing upstairs above the concession stand but that means you can't hear the game and it is not centered so the viewing angle is strained. The concession stand is nice. They sell hot food and freshly brewed coffee. Coffee is my #1 requirement at ice rinks. I wait around a lot and enjoy sipping a hot, fresh coffee while talking with the other parents. There is also a nice pro shop. A pro shop is very important at a hockey rink because you never know when one of the players are going to be in need of something in a hurry. I wouldn't recommend this rink for tournament games because of the lack of seating. Tournaments usually have many more spectators than regular PAHL games. There used to be two sheets of ice at this arena, the other one being NHL-sized with a lot of spectator seating. But it has been closed for many years, and I learned this time around that a trampoline set up is going to be installed. So the NHL rink is closed permanently. So I gave this rink 4 stars because of the nice olympic ice, the ample parking, the fresh coffee, concession stand, and pro shop.
