Alas the Japanese restaurant was closed today so we booked here after much deliberation. It was the bao buns that sold us!
Despite making the reservation there was confusion on arrival which made me apprehensive as it looked fully booked. Eventually we were seated upstairs and guided to the QR code to order .
There wasn't a huge amount to choose from..burgers, couple of curries ..loaded fries. We gambled on a duck bao bun and a pork one at £6 each for starters..a sea bass with mango stir fried veg at £17 and a prawn massaman curry..to drink a guiness at £5.60 and a long island ice tea variant at £10.50.
The cocktail wasn't worth it...save your cash..there was more icecube and mixer than alcohol . The pork bao bun was tasty but at £6 for one..lotus bun..feels like two would have been better value...the duck variant swam in zero sauce..so a bit uninspiring /dry.
The mains..despite the prawn curry not looking great did taste lovely and I really enjoyed my sea bass dish ..Nice bok choy and veggies along with perfect rice.
Then comes the pitiful mochi..I love this stuff, and was super excited to see this on the menu especially in my favourite flavours such as matcha! Ironically they had bothered to ask how the food was up until this point but failed to do so and this tastless plasticine crimescene.. nor did they genuinely seem to care once the feedback was provided. I.e rectify the bill..
Overall a slightly overpriced place with migraine worthy music and staff that clock off prematurely . The decor as well was on the cusp of tacky with stuffed birds and diamanté upholstery.. definitely not return.. read more
