It is very cute on the outside, very cute on the inside, easy to locate, and the food was nice. I have walked by it often, but this was the first time I stopped in. It is nice and cozy inside and I was greeted by one of the staff members as I walked through the door. I read the menu and the specials on the blackboard. I was attracted to the Smoked Chicken Sandwich with avocado, sun dried tomatoes with a mayo base. I did decide to add one of the soups of the day (the Minestrone) to the sandwich. I did notice some other tables having the full Cumbrian breakfast, which really did look lovely, but as I had a full cooked English breakfast that morning, I wanted something more lunch-y.
The plate came out and it was quite large... a full sandwich, a small bowl of soup, and a small salad. The soup... it seemed to be lacking something and I couldn't tell if it was a homemade soup or not. The sandwich was nice, but a bit on the salty side. I think the smoked chicken and sun dried tomatoes were the culprits in that. At one point I thought there was bacon in the sandwich... but still unsure. I don't have a problem with bacon, but I wasn't expecting it and if it was, it could also add to the saltiness of the sandwich. When I went to pay at the till, there were some lovely baked goods on display, so I asked for a brownie for takeaway. I figured I could snack on that on my three-hour coach ride back.
The brownie was nice, loved the walnuts, but it could be more chocolatey. It was more airy and cake-like than dense, but a nice texture anyway. I did think it was a bit pricey... just under £12 for everything. However, it is a lovely little cafe and if you are looking for a full Cumbrian breakfast or some baked goodies, stop in. read more
