Salmon with spring onion mash and asparagus
    Olivia D.

We went to the Albert twice while staying in Bowness. First night we just had drinks and after looking at the menu decided to come back a few nights later. We had lovely drinks, the crab cake starter, and both ordered salmon with mash. The crab cakes were good, a bit spicy. The main course of salmon was great! The Albert also has great service and warm atmosphere

All the food was exceptionally delicious. The lamb was cooked to perfection, being incredibly tender and flavorful, complemented by a specially crafted red wine jus. My daughter's pasta had the sauce perfectly balanced. Not content with just one portion, she ordered another and ate it all up. My wife's daily soup was praised for its delicious and rich taste, devoid of any harsh flavors. Both the chef and the restaurant deserve a five-star rating.

At first we were a little confused because The Lamplighter looked like a lodge guest house, but we quickly realized that there was a separate entrance to the dining restaurant portion of the building (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#ThGBtbyE49smFRKjKtZlVQ). We were given the choice to eat in the room with the bar (which was dimly lit) or the purely restaurant portion (more brightly lit). Since we weren't going to drink, we chose the restaurant room. Our waiter was very quick and efficient to set everything up (including a slab of stone as a place-mat for each person) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#vsemIfn9O7ZNy9iY47ht_w) and give us our waters and menus. However, it was the manager/owner (we couldn't figure out what his role was, but he was definitely a superior to the waiters) who came out to introduce the menu and the specials of the day. He mentioned something about the restaurant having their last fresh "flat fish" for their fish special of the day, but we were initially uninterested and didn't pay too much attention. However, after skimming through the menu (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#_DsCh1Kr6PQEt2Yq5mjwBg), my dad decided he wanted to know more about the fish again, and the waiter called over the manager/owner again and he was happy to launch into detail about the fish and how he was planning on cooking and serving it (he was VERY nice and was very eager to make any changes to the dish if we requested it). We decided to go for the fish, St. Clemente's Chicken (salad), and Corn Beef Hash Cake, and when we placed our order, the manager/owner was very polite and even thanked us for ordering each and every dish. Definitely memorable customer service! Flat Fish of the day (served with lemon and butter with a bowl of salad, coleslaw, and potato salad on the side) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#hJ_BpvMasz5v_IixNZAEmA) - This was very yummy! We were SO glad we decided to snatch up their last fresh flat fish of the day. The fish was definitely fresh and tender and tasted amazing with the herbed butter and lemon on top! The salad was very refreshing and the dressing was to die for (I'm a big fan of vinaigrettes and this one hit the right spot!). My family was fighting to stake a claim on the last little pieces of this dish! Corn Beef Hash Cake (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#KCtVTGjrAc_kSpnx1Lx2hQ) - This dish was also very good. The corn beef is served with beans and soaked in a bed of some tomato sauce with a small bed of salad on top. The meat was very tender and flavorful and the tomato sauce complemented it very well. St. Clemente's Chicken (served with a salad) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w) - This is not your typical chicken salad. There is a unique dressing that rounds up this dish perfectly. There was the perfect acidity and sweetness to the dressing that made the dish light but very flavorful. The chicken was very juicy and tender as well, and my mom was very curious about the herbs they used to make the chicken so tasty. After we finished eating, we were in a hurry to go to a grocery store before it closed, so I went to the bar to pay for our bill. After receiving our change, the manager/owner rushed out from the kitchen and started apologizing for not checking up on us while we were eating (we ate pretty fast and I guess he wasn't expecting us to finish so early). It was very nice and considerate of him and we left the restaurant feeling like we were very valued customers at this place. TL;DR: Amazing service (you will be treated like kings and queens here), good food, and a very enjoyable atmosphere! Definitely a recommended place to eat in Windermere!

I had the king prawns with garlic and chili for my starter and it was superb - I think I could eat that plate of food everyday and not get tired of it and I know this sounds like hyperbole but it was one of the best plates of food I've ever had. It includes fiery hot red chilies so it's not suitable for people who don't like or can't tolerate spicy hot food. For me - the dish had subtlety, complex flavors and a spicy, comfort food experience with a beautiful broth. My husband had the tomato basil soup followed by the mushroom risotto, which was pure perfection. I had the tomato, pea potato cake for my entree. It was beautifully presented, a great option for vegetarians. I liked it but didn't love it, I found it a little bland. But I generally don't lean towards vegetarian food, I just wanted something a little lighter to pair with the prawns. The risotto - perfection! The potato cake, not punchy enough for me but good enough. We got the suggested wine pairings and that was super good and we shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was divine - light, flavorful, perfectly prepared and presented. The whole meal, the whole experience was beautiful - I would definitely return to this restaurant, it was great!

Despite making the reservation there was confusion on arrival which made me apprehensive as it looked fully booked. Eventually we were seated upstairs and guided to the QR code to order . There wasn't a huge amount to choose from..burgers, couple of curries ..loaded fries. We gambled on a duck bao bun and a pork one at £6 each for starters..a sea bass with mango stir fried veg at £17 and a prawn massaman curry..to drink a guiness at £5.60 and a long island ice tea variant at £10.50. The cocktail wasn't worth it...save your cash..there was more icecube and mixer than alcohol . The pork bao bun was tasty but at £6 for one..lotus bun..feels like two would have been better value...the duck variant swam in zero sauce..so a bit uninspiring /dry. The mains..despite the prawn curry not looking great did taste lovely and I really enjoyed my sea bass dish ..Nice bok choy and veggies along with perfect rice. Then comes the pitiful mochi..I love this stuff, and was super excited to see this on the menu especially in my favourite flavours such as matcha! Ironically they had bothered to ask how the food was up until this point but failed to do so and this tastless plasticine crimescene.. nor did they genuinely seem to care once the feedback was provided. I.e rectify the bill.. Overall a slightly overpriced place with migraine worthy music and staff that clock off prematurely . The decor as well was on the cusp of tacky with stuffed birds and diamanté upholstery.. definitely not return..
