Quarter Horse is based from Oxford and the Birmingham branch is it's sister shop. The space here is vast with huge ceilings and windows at the front and back of the shop coupled with minimalist furniture, there is plenty of seating and will be very exciting to see all these full once the name of Quarter Horse name gets out to Birmingham. I enjoyed a silky latte this morning which was excellent in taste and kept me warm from the wet weather outside. QH are using Round Hill coffee beans at the moment which is a welcome change from the many other fine coffee shops in Birmingham. At the moment, QH is limited to hot drinks (they opened 2 days ago) so it will be interesting to see what food and other additions QH will provide over the coming weeks and really develop into a place with its own identity. But what is extremely exciting for coffee buffs is that on one side of the shop, a new roaster is going to be installed within the next 2 weeks! First in Birmingham! I'm sure I am not the only person who is thrilled at this prospect and cannot wait to see this in action. I have been to many coffee shops in London where this set up works very effectively so this will certainly be something Brummies can be proud of.

On offer were your normal hot and cold drink selections, alongside what looked like homemade cakes. As we went in on a Tuesday afternoon, we were able to get a table so we sat down and enjoyed a slice of chocolate cake and a couple of hot chocolates. As the name suggests, this eatery is small and friendly and on top of that serves up some great quality grub! You can get yourself a delicious handmade sandwich or opt for the more traditional option of a good old fry up. Obviously being a small business, seating is at a premium so it can be difficult to eat in on a busy day, but if that's the case then simply grab a sandwich to take away and eat in the fresh air, although on a typical Birmingham day this can present its own problems due to our less than favourable weather most of the year round.

Despite my continuing suspicion of why there's a wall in the place between the 2 still bizarres me. The sandwich and juice bar is fantastic. The first time I visited the banh mi was 5/5 with the pork being seasoned to perfection in addition to the crispy bread and salad. This time round, I was able to enjoy the massive beef brisket and melted cheese, I feel so full just thinking about it. If you're able to visit during a good time, you should also try the salads too with your sandwich, it is mixed everyday so it is lottery at what's available. My most memorable so far will always be with sriracha slaw, not too spicy and not too creamy but very crunchy and flavoursome. Next comes the drinks bar, served with the most amazing selection of cakes. The drinks bar offer a great selection of coffee and teas, to which my delight they serve dragon well! At the time I'm writing this review I have a packed peanut butter cookie on the go, however I'm very confident it will taste amazing having seen them made it live before. The building itself is part of the Old Crown pub which believe is one of the oldest pubs in the city. The low ceilings and stained glass windows make it so cosy and packed full of charm. For food we had a sharing portion of wings and a black pudding scotch egg. Both were SO good, very fresh and generally amazing. Another one for the to-do list of you haven't already! One of the things I love most about this place is how communal they feel, throw in huge bean bags and I'm totally sold. The stores all serve coffee, cakes and breakfasts. The coffee is some of the best going in Birmingham. Attention to all details including coffee art and bean supplies. The cakes are all independently sourced and always off a good and different variety. Urban coffee really defines what a good coffee store should be in my eyes with the perfect combination of coffee and its lounge type ambience. If you've not been yet and your a coffee enthusiast put it on your list!

This branch of Urban Coffee has a small mezzanine area where they sometimes have events or private hires making it more versatile than some of the other cafes. Due to that and its location you get a real mixed crowd of people in the store all the time. Everyone from young creatives right through to suited and booted businessmen are regularly enjoying a cup of the dark stuff in the chilled out and laid back space. My personal favourite beverage from here is a skimmed hazelnut latte....if you are into hazelnut flavoured drinks they syrup they are using here is AMAZING.

The Coffee is most excellent because they use Allpress espresso beans from London which gives their drinks a massive edge over most places some places in Birmingham. The shop is small and quirky. They do accept reservations so if you are going to visit with friends it's worth booking ahead. There's some seating outside too. The coffee served here is excellent. I couldn't see anywhere advertising the sort of beans or specifics used. The coffee does stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best in Birmingham though. The store also serves typical brunch which is available all day long. If your looking for a quick coffee or some brunch in harborne I would highly recommend it here!
