Frederiksen-Crawford has been doing our taxes for 4 years now and every single year they do a fantastic job leaving us consistently pleasantly surprised at the end of tax season. Our taxes are moderately complicated with some W2 stuff, some self-employment business stuff, rental property, property sales (capital gains), etc. and while some firms I have worked with in the past struggled to get it all correct and submitted on time, Frederiksen-Crawford has been meticulous about getting it all correct, on time every single year. They are professional, informative, easy to work with, diligent, and effective and make what could be a painful tax season feel fair and relatively painless. Thank you Frederiksen-Crawford! I can't say enough great things about Paul, Jamie, and the entire KroyCPA team. They are truly…read moreextraordinary not just in their technical skills with tax prep, bookkeeping, and all things finance-related but also in how easy and enjoyable they are to work with. As a business owner, my taxes can get pretty complicated. I always have a lot of questions, and sometimes tax law can feel like a foreign language. But Paul and Jamie have this rare ability to break everything down in a clear, patient, and approachable way. They never hesitate to answer questions (no matter how small or repetitive), and they do it in a way that makes me feel reassured and fully informed to make the right decisions. They genuinely care not just about getting your taxes done right, but about helping you reach your goals. That's something really unique. They always take the time to understand what I'm trying to achieve and then guide me toward it with strategy and confidence. That kind of partnership is rare, and it makes all the difference. If you're looking for a team that's not only super sharp and knowledgeable but also personable, thoughtful, and deeply invested in your success KroyCPA is it. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. My husband and I hired Paul Chiang/kroyCPA to prepare our 2022 and 2023 taxes on the recommendation…read moreof a friend who has used them. I would strongly advise against working with them and will be seeking a new tax accountant for next year. Months after filing our 2022 taxes (November 2023), we had an unapproved $500 withdrawal from our back account by kroyCPA. Once they finally got back to me, they explained that our payments from April and May 2022 ($250 each) had failed and they were attempting payment again. We were not notified in April, May, or any of the months leading up to November that these payments had failed, nor were we given a heads up before they tried again months later. This miscommunication left a bad taste in my mouth, and unfortunately we didn't seek out a new tax preparer then. I wish we had. For our 2023 taxes, we submitted all of our documents on March 5 and March 13. I received an email on March 11 saying that mine had been received, and once my husband submitted his, I sent a response on March 13 letting them know he had done so and asking if anything else was needed. I never received a response to this inquiry. On March 29 I sent a follow up message through their portal and still received no response. On April 2, I left a voicemail around 8:30 am, called again once they were open around 10:30 am and was told I would receive a call back. After not receiving a call back, I called again at the end of the day and was once again promised a call back. On April 3, I called once again and was told I would receive a call, sent another message through the portal, and followed this with an email marked URGENT. I finally received a call back the afternoon of April 3, and honestly I think it was only because I said if I didn't receive one that day that I would find someone else to do our taxes. While I appreciated that we were offered a $100 discount on their fee, I did NOT appreciate discovering that kroyCPA had increased their fees from the previous year and did not notify us (or likely, any of their clients). Honestly, everything about them feels kind of shady. After being ghosted this year, I went back through emails from last year and found that there was a pattern of non-responsiveness. I understand that we are not their only clients and this is a very busy time of year, but confirming they have everything they need from us would have taken 5 minutes. (Also, they didn't - they had questions about 2 documents based on our 2022 taxes for accounts that we no longer hold, and did not ask this until I finally received a call back yesterday.) So again, if you are looking for someone to do your taxes, I would look elsewhere. Their fees are EXORBITANT and the customer service is non-existent.

I was just…read morelooking at the other reviews and am baffled to find that I am not the only one with these problems. They forgot to file my 2016 tax returns. The whole reason to go to a CPA in the first place is the expectation that they would do their due diligence. It is one thing to make an accounting mistake in the returns but how could they forget to file the returns? I have never experienced such blatant incompetence with any service in my life, much less with something as crucial as Tax returns! Add to this I opted for the peace of mind service and I got the exact opposite of what I paid for. I actually regret having to even give the one star. This business deserves -5 stars if possible. When they tried the fix it a whole year later they wouldn't even pay for priority mail and would have me pay for tracking and postage if I wasn't going to chose the traditional mail. 2016 was the first year I even chose to go to an accountant instead of doing it myself online specifically because it was a year where I wanted to be particularly safe in my filings. This is such a disastrous turn that I am completely enraged with their conduct and their lackadaisical attitude towards their customers. Here's an advice for anyone considering going here, run! I don't have many regrets in my life but I wish I could go back in time to never go here.

Even though I have a degree in Accounting & Finance, I opted for the first time ever to pay someone…read moreelse to prepare my returns because I had a fair amount of more complex events that took place for me in 2020; after the experience I had with Howes Tax, I realize that I should have just sucked it up and spent the time to do the research and file my own returns (or should have found someone else more reliable for the job.) While there were certain things that affected the practice that were outside of their control, there were still many issues that should have caused me to jump ship well before they completed the work: - I did not have my return completed and available for review until Friday, October 15th (the very last day for taxpayers on extension), despite the fact that we first engaged in February of 2021 and they had the majority of my documents in the first week of March, giving them more than seven months to complete the work. - With less than 10 hours to review and file my fairly complex returns before the midnight deadline, I discovered a pretty significant error in their calculations that overstated a gain on sale and therefore unnecessarily increased my combined federal/state tax liability by several thousand dollars. - Their preliminary estimate was that I would owe a combined $90K between federal and state income taxes; naturally, I freaked out, told them that this was a HUGE leap from the amount I was expecting to owe based on my own quick math, and that a tax bill of that size would put me in financial ruin. This news was delivered to me on May 17th (the last day to make payments for 2020 tax liabilities); instead of working to get a more accurate / reasonable number, I was simply told to "pay what I can" in order to minimize penalties/interest. [At the end of the day, I ended up with a net *refund* of about $5K, nearly a $100K difference from what they told me I should have paid up front!) - In the two days leading up to the filing deadline, the estimated liability total that I was given kept fluctuating several thousands of dollars at a time, and when I asked for clarification for the drastic swings, I was told "I wish I had to explain tax law at the last hour but I unfortunately don't." - Messages often went weeks (or even months) without being responded to, leaving me in a huge cloud of uncertainty with my financial future. - I was asked multiple times to provide documents that I had already uploaded several months ago (when originally requested.) - Not only was I charged over $1,400 for this "service" that amounted to a crazy level of stress and frustration, I am now likely having to file an amendment on the returns that they prepared because they insisted on revisiting a calculation I made on my prior year return that didn't need to be touched. Having never hired someone to do my own taxes before, I had no real-life basis for comparison, but after having gone through this fiasco (and reading the other reviews from people who have had a similar experience) I am now pretty convinced that my experience was a particularly horrendous one; needless to say, I will not be returning to Howes Tax.
