And bagels, who doesn't love bagels? My favourite is the tomato bagel with hummus though I also love it with mozzarella, pesto and sundried tomatoes. One downside: the pesto is always VERY salty, so you kind of need the freshness and sweetness from the everything juice. And I currently have to replace the mozzarella with creamcheese because the mozzarella is made with unpasteurised milk, so it's not safe during pregnancy. The creamcheese however is perfectly safe and the best flavour is definitely the tomato and pesto creamcheese, delicious! As for the service here, they're friendly and are quick to greet you, but if you need a little while longer to decide or want to order some more, it can take a while to get their attention. Also, check your bill before you pay, sometimes things get mixed up and you might just realise too late that you've also payed for someone else's bagel. -_-" No bueno...

If you don't live in Leiden, you need to petition them to open a branch wherever you live. We had a focaccia bagel and a plain Jane bagel. The former was extraordinary. It was something never imagined before. Imagine a hearty meal, but on a bagel. The cream cheese with chives was true to name. Also fresh and smoothly delicious. We bagged 2 bagels for next day's breakfast. The owner is friendly and loved sharing the story behind his bakery. We talked for so long that I had to get another coffee even though it was well past their closing time. The bagels are all made at the shop from fresh ingredients. It's a real bakery. They even have some cakes and desserts, if you so desire. The seating inside is cozy. The coffee good and strong. It is now one of my favorite stops in Leiden.

Everything I ordered was wrong or missing and I also had a hard time paying as the server did not understand that I was paying for both myself and my partner. The payment set up was not very efficient as we had to line up at the counter to pay but there was no room to stand out of the way of servers and customers. The cream cheese (which are all vegan except for the walnut-honey) was extremely good. However, when asked for clarification if they are vegan and without dairy, the server replied "it's cream cheese"... they later consulted with their colleagues and determined it was indeed vegan. As I did not have an adverse reaction after eating it, I can also attest that it was indeed dairy-free. The place was busy and had quite a lot of seating. I would recommend visiting for the food, but have some patience just in case;)

If you are a bit later than 11:04 do not worry as Bagels and Beans has a lot of choice for your brunch, lunch and high tea or tapas for 2. Their bagels are fresh, coffee is delicious and juices exceptional. On a nice day you can get one of the tables in front of the cafe and look at the people passing by.
