Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside with perfectly whipped plain cream cheese. They take their lox seriously- perfectly sliced with no bad pieces. I liked it a lox. Be sure to get a sandwich; they were made for an instagram moment. We visited on Saturday morning and waited 15 minutes, totally worth it even with a hangover. Grab a number and wait in the fresh air. No tables to sit at and no good coffee, but we have other places for that. P.S. bagels are my favorite food. I take these savory donuts seriously. read more

Literally the best bagels I've ever eaten. Full stop. No contest. At the time of this review, they are only open for bagels and cream cheese plus coffee. The line is out the door first thing in the morning but if you come a little bit later, you can avoid waiting outside and pick a number. They are constantly making bagels so when i came around 11am, it looked like they were out of plain bagels but they brought a bun of them up right when it was my turn. they were out of cream cheese with the last containers being sold while I was waiting. I was thrilled to get my bag of bagels and realize that they were all hot. I immediately went home and sliced them and ate them without toasting with butter. Split a couple with the fam- everything was completely coated on both sides, salty and full of flavor. Plain was amazing, nothing "plain" about it. So glad this is in my hood. We arrived at 9:25 on Sunday morning and the line was about halfway down the block. There was plenty of street parking near the restaurant. We were out the door bagels in hand at 10:25 (we ordered sandwiches which took a bit longer). Wait is not bad as long as the weather is nice! Everyone in line was courteous and understanding of the wait. Once you enter the building, you grab a number and find a place to stand without being in the way. They offer self serve coffee and water while you wait. We ordered a half dozen bagels, the salmon roe, the delox and trout bagel. Salmon roe was surprisingly my favorite sandwich! We ordered the delox on everything bagel and that was a little too salty for me. The cherry crunch round was delicious with cream cheese! We will definitely order the "Tzitzelnickel" bagel again (out of the half dozen, this was our favorite). These are true New York style bagels. Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The bagels are fresh but pretty chewy for my taste. My head hurt from chewing so much. Good flavor in everything bagel and cherry crunch. Service was pleasant. Nice tile floor/decor and display case. They have a ticket system for ordering which works well and an ice water / coffee station. 2 Everything Bagels w/ Reg Shmear ($4.50 each), 1 Cherry Crunch ($3), 1 small tub of chicken salad ($12), plus tax and $2 tip = $26 Pretty pricey for what you get. The $12 small tub of chicken salad tasted great, but fill up the tub! Tarragon, whole grain mustard, pickles and onion. Beyond price, the reason for only 3 stars is I just couldn't get over how chewy the bagels were. Definitely give them a try. read more

I've been impatiently waiting FOREVER for Bagel Union to open. I'm such a huge fan of Union Loafers, I knew I'd fall in love with Bagel Union. We arrived at 8:10 on the first Friday morning they were open for "normal" business. The line was about halfway down the block but moved fairly quickly. We were out the door by 8:50. Once you make it inside the building, you grab a number and find a place to hang out. You can grab self-serve coffee or water while you wait. Menu options include a variety of bagels, cream cheese, and several bagel sandwich options. We opted for a half dozen everything and salt bagels as well as the delox sandwich (cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, pickled shallots, red onions). You can customize your sandwich with bagel and cream cheese type. While I love St. Louis style bagels (Bread Co), these are a New York style bagel. Crunch on the outside. Chewy goodness on the inside. And not "oversized". They were wonderful! If you're planning on going soon, be prepared to wait. Everyone was friendly, smells were amazing, and the bagels were worth it. We will definitely become regulars here! read more

I had super high hopes for this place since I love their other establishment, Union Loafers. Stopped by for a few bagels and I forgot they had recently opened because the place was packed! I waited about 20 minutes for a lox sandwich and a few bagels with cream cheese. I thought the bagels were a bit tough and chewy. It has good flavor but my jaw hurt after eating half my lox sandwich... This was especially disappointing because the sandwich is near $20. At least for this time, the price point certainly did not line up with the quality so I would probably avoid the expensive sandwiches in the future and maybe opt for just a bagel. read more

Here to pop in to confirm that the hype is worth it, oh my gosh- best bagel I have ever had. I grew up on brueggars in the Midwest and lived out east long enough to know how they expect a bagel to be made. I'm not lying- this was better than some of "the best" bagel shops in nyc and their burbs. The texture is incredible, the outside has a nice crunchy and chewy texture while the inside melts in your mouth. I went basic- a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese. The cream cheese was very good but the chives were diced a little big so if you're not into onion I'd go with plain. The parking situation is not great. The parking lot is very easy to take a right into but extremely hard to safely get out of. That's my only complaint. The ordering system was crazy efficient- there was a line of about 7 people when I came in. I was out in about 15min. Everyone was friendly and kind! read more

Sooooo worth the hype and wait! You can taste the freshness of the ingredients & the love in these bagels. Yea they're expensive, but for the quality of product they're putting out, it's worth the splurge! The line moves quicker than you think- I arrived at 9am on a Sunday, and only waited about 30 minutes to order. Their open & closed faced sandwiches are incredible- we tried the the Iggy (salmon, scallion cream cheeese, chili crip & cilantro salad) on a toasted salt bagel, and the Salmon Roe (scallion cream cheese, roe, pickled shallot & dill) on a toasted plain bagel. The fish was so insanely fresh, the bagels had a crunchy outside & chewy inside, and they had the perfect amount of herbs to balance it all out. Plus, they have drip coffee for you to serve yourself while you wait, then you just pay when you check out. I thought that was really nice. I'm looking forward to going again and stocking up on some different bagel flavors and some of their salmon cream cheese! read more

Smiling faces and contemporary soft jazz playing while you choose. I had my first bite in when I returned to the car and smeared on some scallion smear... so was it a NY style bagel? Not quite, but is it a good bagel with a great charm and hipster attitude?? Absolutely!! I had bites of a bagel reminiscent of a boiled, chewy bagel of my younger years, though the outer crust was crispy and the inside more airy like a Jersey Bialys. And who wants a Jersey bagel??! Lol (I kid!) But none the less, I totally want this to be my place of choice for New York Style Themed delights!! I was super excited to try Bagel Union for their new weekday hours and popped in around 7:15am. There were already a lot of people in there but they moved everyone through quickly. It was a little difficult to find parking when the lot was full and there were only a few spots on the street which were full as well. I got the cherry crunch bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was the perfect mix of crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The cream cheese was really smooth a creamy but I wish they had a sweet option to go with the sweet bagel. Currently they have plain and chive. I'm definitely going to try the everything bagel with chive cream cheese. read more

I think I'm low key mad I like this bagel so much. I don't need to like anything else especially bread but here we are. The bite is literally perfect. I have only ordered the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and the lox. I've had it 4 times and each time I'm done with my bagel I'm super sad it's gone. The line can get pretty crazy on the weekend so go in with patience and know that you are probably about to experience the best bagel you've ever had. The coffee is pretty impressive too. They only offer drip but that's a darn good cup of coffee. You may have to wait for them to slice your lox that they smoke themselves, worth it. The parking can be frustrating too but again...worth it. Damn you Bagel Union...you need a loyalty program. read more

Pros: delicious food - our bagels were chewy and delicious and still warm when we ate them at home. The cream cheese tasted really fresh. Cons: everyone else also thinks their food is delicious. Be ready to wait (it's worth it). We arrived at 7 when they open and were #55 in line. They were very quick though so it wasn't a long wait. Their parking is also a con. They are on a busy corner like Union Loafers, so you have to get creative to find a spot (again, worth it). I will visit any place the people behind Union Loafers open! read more

Classic bagel shop. It's not a full-blown bakery, just bagels, bagel sandwiches, and shmear. That being said, it was exactly what we were hoping for! Little local shop with great NY style bagels. Great chew. Great flavor. We tried the Delox, and a cherry with cherry shmear. Both were very good. The cherry flavor in the bagel as well as the shmear was on point and unusual as far as finding it in other places. The Delox was very good, but not as unique of an option. We'd definitely get both of them again. Be prepared for a little wait (at least on a Saturday morning.) But, they did a good job of both focusing on the customer and getting through the line as quickly as you might hope. Next time we have a hankering for really good bagels, we'll be back! I travel a lot for work and instead of eating hotel breakfast, I search for local bagel shops. I was in St Louis for 2 days and ended up eating here both mornings. The bagels are great, but the cream cheese sets this place apart from any other shop I've visited. The first day I had my usual, everything with jalapeño cream cheese and it was by far the best I've ever had. The 2nd day, I got the same thing, but ordered some extras for the office I was going to. These are not your Bread Co or Enstein bagels, they are genuinely closer to what you'd traditionally find in NYC, a little chewy and really good. Get here early and they might still be warm, yummy. Often busy with a line but I think worth the wait, but I'm an East coast guy. They also make their own cream cheese (excellent) and they also offer sandwiches which I have not had yet. I am so glad that BAGEL stayed the course and set up shop in that part of Webster which has needed some love for a long time. The interior is very cute, although it certainly seems capable of having a few more tables. Their free ice water station is nice as well. The coffee was super-pruney, so if you like that you'll be happy. The service was serviceable, no more or no less. The scallion schmear was delicious on my poppyseed bagel. The open face lox bagel was good and its ingredient portions seemed generous, considering what I expected our tab to be. But then our tab came. All I can say is, if their prices are what they are because their employees have health insurance, etc., they really should put a cool poster on the wall explaining so. Otherwise, their name should change from BAGEL to BOUJEE. 3 stars....perhaps almost 4 stars if their staff is well taken care of. In a world full of breadCo bagels, i am excited to find a place that strives to be exceptional instead of average. Bagel Union is exceptional (as is Union Loafers!). First, the bagels are actually dense bagels. Normally, that is all I would get. However, the bagel union sandwiches are really good and well thought out out. My favorite is the beef on weck. Often they are out of the weck bagels (which are the best), so a beef on everything is pretty darn good too. read more

I moved here from the east coast recently and was greatly dismayed to find NO decent bagel options upon arrival (sorry Bagel Factory fans, it just wasn't it, though I won't speak ill of the deceased RIP). Enter, Bagel Union. The Union set the standard for turning water and flour into bread, and once more set the standard for turning more water and flour into bagels, evidenced by the long line of 20 or 30 something yuppies (donned in Lululemon or Arcteryx) flooding the small deli counter. Early morning me may have been aggravated by the ~25 minute wait (on a weekend morning), but was quickly assuaged by the self serve Comet Coffee (a potent antidote). Ordered a lox and a plain w/ plain. The bagels were on the lighter end of chewy (how I prefer it) though still had plenty of gluten to give you a light jaw work out. Lox was great, but would skip the lemon oil next time. read more

I just went to Union bagel this morning on Father's Day to get some bagels while waiting in line patiently which I have no issues waiting. My number was called. The number was 55. The store was packed as I came up to order my bagels. They were out of plain bagels and salt bagels. This is only an hour after opening. Ever since they opened if they were out of bagels, they would take a little bag. Write your name on it the bagels ordered. When the bagels would come out, they will put them in the bag and call my name and I would go pay. Today I was told because they were out of plain bagels and salt bagels that I would have to wait and take another number and get back in line because they cannot serve someone if the bagels are not prepped and out in the front. After waiting for almost 25 minutes the next number was 97 so therefore, why would I wait another half hour. That is piss poor customer service. I have never heard of this process at union bagels but good to know that a process that makes no sense is being utilized. read more

I tried the Iggy on an everything bagel and it had lots of flavor! The smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, and chili crisp all complimented one another well. It was a tasty and filling sandwich, but a little hard to eat. The bagel was slightly hard and chewy, not good for my TMJ. When our friends from out of town visit they always complain about our sub par bagel scene in STL. But Bagel Union is a nice reprieve from our bad, overly bready, dense bagels. They are crisp on the outside light and chewy on the inside and they came out warm and fresh. Today I bought the tzitzelnickle which had a lovely corn meal crust and dark rye in the middle, plain bagels which were fantastic and cherry crunch and cinnamon raisin which were a tasty sweet option and are all fantastic toasted. There were just a few varieties of flavors but they were spot on with flavor. The only bagel we weren't wowed by was the everything, which had pungent garlic and onion and overly salty in our opinion. They also have sandwiches and schmear, bagel chips, and a variety of house made cream cheese. I also recommend the delox, (salmon and lox on tzitzelnickle). The store is tiny and when crowded you wait a considerable amount of time to be served. However, the service is friendly and efficient with a number system. I would recommend taking your food to go when crowded there is very limited space to eat comfortably. There is also very little parking and don't even attempt to park in the tiny lot when busy, (There is more parking around the corner in the back if you don't mind walking about 100 yards). Also beware that it is quite pricey, but regardless of these small set backs it is still well worth the effort of getting quality bagels. read more
