It's not the kind of place we would normally walk into, but it was recommended by someone we trust, and we were really glad we tried it. The restaurant is one of the few located right on the water, practically over it, so that you can eat on a terrace on the water or inside at these huge windows. If it's windy or a bit cool, indoors you have plenty of fresh air coming from the door and windows without the inconvenience of the terrace. We reserved a table for two at the window and it was so bright it was like being outside! The decor inside is quite formal, with double cloth table coverings and white faux-leather chairs that have seen better days but are perfectly comfortable. There is a less formal terrace at one side that is for the pizzeria and faster lunch, probably very crowded during prime-beach-weather. Let's talk food. We started with a plate of fried calamari (€13) which were huge and fresh, not at all chewy, with very light batter. Our primi came a little too soon afterwards; mine were a kind of three-coloured bucatini with tomatoes and pesce spada, which was really good, especially the quality and texture of the fish. I think the flavour was lacking delicacy slightly, I'm not a fan of pasta tricolore and no idea anyone actually ate the stuff, but the overall dish was good. My husband's pasta with pesto and shrimp looked a little heavy and over-dressed but you'll have to read Tommaso O's review to find out more :) I had just a salad after this, while Tommy O continued with a pesce spada which looked delicious. Dessert screamed for a lemon sorbet to digest, which was served in a kinda inconvenient bowl, rather than in the usual wine glass - so i transfered it to a glass :) My companion in crime had the most incredibly good cassatina fritta, I shall not tell you what it is just order it (it's a bomb!!). Today price 82 euros, which came down to 76 euros when we noticed a 2 euro discrepancy (coke we didn't order). Overall impression - very pleasant lunch and a great way to spend three hours after lazily reading on the beach all morning. It is a hard life, but the Yelper must do her best to eat, eat, eat.

We were beyond thrilled to be seated at L'Angolo when we wandered in at 8pm on a Sunday in February. What followed was some of the most attentive service and delicious, creative seafood we've experienced in Italy! The charming waiter had lived and worked in Miami for several years and was happy to chat with us in English, explaining the menu, making wine and food recommendations, explaining the history and origins of their Sicilian dishes... Did you know, for instance, that caponata takes its name from "capone," Italian for mahi-mahi because this "poor man's" dish was traditionally made with that fish which is ample and inexpensive in Sicily? We had their version with swordfish that was just out of this world! On our waiter's recommendation, we also started with the fried baby squid (my favorite!!) and sardine balls. My husband and I shared two pastas which they graciously plated individually/in half portions for each of us. The real win of the night though came when I told them that my mother in law didn't eat seafood. Any other restaurant would have scoffed at us and maybe brought a plate of noddles with olive oil. However, our waiter asked what she wanted, and when she declared Alfredo Fettucini (a dish known only in America), he didn't bat an eye. Instead, he took her request to the kitchen and brought out, what I must admit, was a damn good plate of pasta. Sadly, we were too full for dessert, even though the promise of housemaid tiramisu, panna cotta, etc. was so tempting. I had to remind them to get us the cheese and they brought some cheapest parmesan in a can. Sardine balls were eatable but Im never ordering it again. We kept waiting and waiting.. saw waters come in with a few packs of potatoes ( it felt like they had no potatoes thats why we had to wait for the side fries). then about 25 mins later we were finally served the fish. Salmon was ok, not the best still but swardfish was just disgusting. Dry, tasteless and overcooked. They offered no oil not vinegar for what they called salad ( they obviously dont know what salad really is though) and i had to ask for it. Overall we sent over an hour just waiting there. They didnt even ask us if we were happy with it, they didnt seem to care at all. I felt the owners who were there as well werent really friendly and were rather rude with some other people. It was my first and only negative experience at the restaurant in Mondello and im never comign there again. Avoid.

All of a sudden our main dishes came out (before the starters) and the spaghetti with shrimp and clams turned out to be shrimp and clamshells... Only 3 of the clams actually had the meat in them... You can't make that up (see pic of clams). Then (after we reminded them) the fourth drink came, a prosecco bellini was ordered (6 euro) and a harder bellini (14 euro) was brought out... The reason I give two stars and not one was that the drinks, ravioli, and swordfish was actually pretty good. The night was just ruined by bad service. We also noticed takes of sea urchin which we ordered as well as pasta with sea urchin, sardine meatballs (polpette di sarde), and a pizza. The food was fine though not the mind blowing pasta experience we were anticipating from our first meal in Italy. The service was courteous and very patient, all the servers hearing out our stumbling Italian and even giving recommendations on both food and wine. Prices are competitive to nearby establishments.
